David Wright and josh Hamilton in a battle to see who can stay injured the longest
bravosfan4life
I never pray for someone to be hurt but I admit I laughed where is the like button
dimitriinla
Ham wins easily, yes?
metseventually 2
It’s begun.
atlbirdsnbraves
better than any heavyweight fight these days….
mikeyank55
With this comment “eventually”, I now understand the meaning of your name here. At least you will get the season off without false hope and be able to take each successive disappointment in stride!
See my posting below for explanations as to what is going on;)
metseventually 2
Your posts aren’t funny and the effort you put into them shows how low your intelligence level is. Keep trying, bro.
mikeyank55
Eventually you will come around to see the humor. It may take another 10 or so seasons of disappointment supporting a team who’s owners are cheap and run the team with a shoe string budget.
Not sure who your bro is, however am certain that you are not in my family line buddy!
padam
Psst… The Mets payroll is the 12th highest in MLB at 150M. They’ve been in the playoffs the last two years, with an appearance in the WS.
Your argument is old.
metseventually 2
Nice South Park reference. Your game is old.
HubcapDiamondStarHalo
Wright’s gonna wind up being in the same category as Grady Sizemore, one of those guys with seemingly unlimited talent who just couldn’t stay healthy. It’s always sad to have to look at a career like that with an eternal “if only…” attached to it. I’d sure love to see what would happen one more time if the man could stay healthy for an entire season, but backs and shoulders rarely ever allow somebody to get back to 100%.
ExileInLA 2
Not Sizemore –Mattingly.
thegreatcerealfamine
That’s complete blasphemy!!!
alexgordonbeckham
Could Todd Frazier be an option if Wright comes back or Wright has to move to first?
kc38
I like the Frazier idea or even abreu and move Reyes to third. But white Sox are gonna want a haul for either of them
alexgordonbeckham
I doubt they will need a haul for less than a year of Frazier (assuming nothing happens in the next month).
Snake65
I wouldn’t mind Frazier but can’t see Mets spending the money or trading. I would like to see TJ Rivera. Reyes will get action there also and SS because Cabrera gets hurt also
padam
Jesus. That’s all the Mets need, another power hitter that can’t hit for average.
ASapsFables
Who else is readily available that can play 3B?
Unlike David Wright, Todd Frazier has appeared in at least 150 games and made a minimum of 600 plate appearances in each of the last 4 seasons. He’s also had a steady increase in HR’s (19, 29, 35, 40) and RBI’s (73, 80, 89, 98) in those 4 seasons despite an inconsistent batting average. He’s also been an above average defender at 3B, can steal some bases and is a positive clubhouse presence. He would be a welcome addition to any contender in need of a third baseman…like the Mets.
metseventually 2
Reyes. Flores. Rivera. Like Jeff Todd said in his article.
ASapsFables
All things being equal, I think most any contender in need of a third baseman would value Todd Frazier over any of those options. Of course, with the Mets ownership situation the acquired dollars would be significant without losing a comparable salary, so I suppose all things are not equal in Queens.
start_wearing_purple
Gotta feel a little sorry for the guy, he has not aged well.
jdgoat
Can’t they just platoon him with Duda at first?
Ian Shay
First basemen still have to throw
TheMichigan
Not as much as a third baseman. Relays, tag double plays, and infield throws to the plate. Maybe throwing back to the pitcher on a pick off
I played first with a shoulder impingement for about 2 weeks before I got it fixed and I was able to play there (albeit very very poorly fielding wise) throws hurt, but they were doable
HubcapDiamondStarHalo
Yeah, but is Wright at what, 50%, 60% really the best option for 1B?
Vince67
Not if he can’t throw. Just let Reyes play third
citizen
stick a fork in the player. hes done.
BrodiesHairisGreezy!
David wright in mid-season form already!…Thanks Sandy.
mike156
Be nice. We all get you hate Sandy. Don’t celebrate an injury just so you can post again.
BrodiesHairisGreezy!
Calm down Mr Wright. We all love your son as a person we just dont think he can play anymore, ok?
mike156
Droll, very droll. Hate on, buddy,. If it give you pleasure…sure.
BrodiesHairisGreezy!
I hate because I love, ok Moron?
mike156
I can see this is a conversation that’s headed to the gutter…so enjoy yourself.
mikeyank55
Here’s are a few explanations for the problem:
-He drank from the water cooler in the bullpen and got infected with shoulderitis.
-“TC” put him on a throwing regimen like all of the pitchers who he has burned through over the years.
-they are grooming Duda to be the new captain so Lucas is injured as a symbolic gesture towards Wright, who in kind found a new way to reciprocate.
-Holy Cow Batman–let’s be sure that Reyes doesn’t get too close to these guys or he will go “Back to the Future” and run into his historic hamstring issues which cost him the better part of what 3 seasons?
soxx44
Todd Frazier for Brandon Nimmo and Robert Gsellman or Frazier for Conforto. Either one would help the rebuild..
alexgordonbeckham
I think they would laugh in Hahn’s face if they asked for Conforto for Frazier. Now, maybe Conforto as part of a package for 3 years of Abreu?
A'sfaninUK
Considering that they very nearly took 1 year of JD Martinez for Conforto, its totally not laughable. Don’t ever forget this, the Mets are stupid.
jakem59
Met’s don’t just hang up the phone on Hahn, they would take the battery out, snap it in half, and chuck it in the river.
metseventually 2
No. Stop. Never.
iamhector24
This is one of the stupidest trade offers I’ve ever seen. Over value of your sox pieces much?
soxx44
Since Washington has apparently lost interest in David Robertson maybe a package of Robertson and Frazier for Conforto, Gsellman and other prospects.would interest the Mets. Mets need bullpen help with Familia out for domestic abuse and this would impact division rival Washington.. Also, the Sox don’t need aging overpaid outfielders back (i.e. Granderson, Bruce).as compensation..
Come to think of it all players are overpaid!
cws2021
Youre nuts. Maybe Frazier for Nimmo and a 20-30 org prospect. Even a 1 for 1 for gsellman and the mets say no….
ASapsFables
The Mets might consider trading OF Michael Conforto to the White Sox if RP Nate Jones was added to the package with 3B Todd Frazier. This is a trade that would make a world of sense for both teams provided the Mets would be willing to take on the Frazier’s salary for 2017. Jones contract would not be a problem with up to 5 years (3 club options) of very affordable team control.
metseventually 2
No, no they wouldn’t. They would move Marcos Molina and another Top 15 prospect for Nate Jones.
ASapsFables
That’s OK. The Mets can be satisfied with David Wright on the D.L. for most of 2017 with some combination of Jose Reyes and Wilmer Flores in his stead at 3B, thereby depleting their bench.
They can also enter the season with a weaker bullpen that could use some help early with the expected suspension of closer Jeurys Familia. Having an impact reliever like Jones would also benefit a Mets rotation for an entire season and beyond, one that could use a stronger pen and shorten the games with all the health concerns hanging over most of their starting pitchers.
sagbagels
wright hasnt been healthy for years…at this point mets should always go about business as if he is injured…i guess its good his contract is 75% insured after meeting thresholds, but mets arent spending it…
crazysull
Only if the Mets were an AL club they could have Wright at DH but unfortunately I see his career coming to an end. I have always liked him. But I think Rivera will be taking over for the future. But it is sad to see Wright go through this. He is 34 but i wish he could play till he was 40 but he probably won’t be able too and I think it is the begging of the process of the Mets focusing on Thor as the new face of the Mets
drstevenbruhle
Hate to say it but it looks like it’s time for wright to retire. Maybe look at what A Rod has done and walk away from the game but stick around baseball in other ways.
JYD5321
Feel bad for David. The back condition uncovered in 2015 (spinal stenosis) is usually a career ending condition. I don’t fault him for wanting to attempt a come back last year (and admire what he was willing to endure at the start of last year to play even 4 or 5 times a week), but I do fault the Mets for indulging it for their own $$ purposes. His throw in the 9th inning of game 5 of the WS should have been the last he ever made from 3b. If he wasn’t under long term contract, it almost certainly would have been. That’s how the Wilpon’s roll. So, last year, Wright goes back out to 3b compromised, and predictably other injuries followed (not to mention subpar play).
Unfortunately for the Mets, this year the delusion they’ve fostered (re-upped) among their fan base regarding David looks like it might not even survive Spring training.
Oh, those unlucky Mets – just can’t seem to stay healthy.
BrodiesHairisGreezy!
Oh the horrors to the Koolaide-drinking Mets fans here when you point out what is right in-front of them…
JYD5321
Yep, the depth chart hasn’t really changed. No worries. Sandy says we’re “all in”. And nothing says “all in” like having an aging SS you picked up for min wage, a career major league utility IF and a career minor league utility IF battling it out at the hot corner.
I do wonder what 3b might look like if we weren’t “all in”?
BrodiesHairisGreezy!
The same as catching and 1st base do. You might as well talk about the mismatched pieces in the outfield also.
texranger
Trade Steve Matz and Jay Bruce to the Rangers for Joey gallo and Martine Perez.
Kayrall
^Trade proposal from 2010.
Brixton
Matz is by far the best player there. Mets say no
SamFuldsFive
Matz can’t ever stay healthy either, so he’s nothing to write home about.
imametsfanbut
I like it
A'sfaninUK
Throw Profar in there too and you might actually have something.
imametsfanbut
I luv ya Keith but it appears David Wright wants your job…. #byebye17
pjmcnu
Nah, Keith is off so much that SNY can easily keep both gainfully employed (not that I want the Captain to retire, but someday).
A'sfaninUK
Wright is the second coming of Eric Chavez so hard it’s not funny, and its definitely not funny how both were on their way to potentially HOF-worthy careers but injuries stole that away from both of them.
It’s a shame, we deserved to see full careers from both of them.
pjmcnu
I’m not worried about Opening Day. If this injury only causes him to be a couple of weeks late out of the gate, but he plays regularly thereafter, I’ll consider it a huge win.
SupremeZeus
David Wrong. Something is always wrong w/ his health. Hope he regains his health in his post-baseball life.
GarryHarris
Will the Royals trade 3B Mike Moustakas to the Mets?
Priggs89
Pretty sure they’re trying to make one more playoff run… Maybe they could make a deal at the deadline if they think they’re out of it…? That’s assuming the worst with Wright, which seems like a safe bet.
mets1987
If your the mets what are u giving up for him where would u start the conversation
arcadia Ldogg
Escobar to the Mets?
Astros44
The Tony Romo of the MLB
usafcop
News would be: David Wright healthy….this isn’t news….this is olds….lol
Howard-NY13
His really is not surprising
Howard-NY13
This
mets1987
Proposed trade : white Sox get matz,tj Rivera , Juan lageras, and gsellman . Mets get Frazier Robertson and maybe a double a prospect
mikeyank55
Are you kidding me 1987?
