Great, now I have to suffer through more Michael Martinez.
Ugh.
wants to be a GM
I don’t like him either aren’t even many free agents that would be an improvement as a utility infielder. Alexei Ramirez maybe?

Alexi Ramirez didn’t look good last year.

Michael Martinez sets the bar pretty low though lol

Maybe they’ll try Yandy Diaz there? He has played 2B in the past.

Still better then all the ‘Blue Jays fans’ whining about Donaldson
Burgeezy
I imagine to start the season the nod goes to Martinez (I just threw up in my mouth), but either Erik Gonzalez or The Yandy man himself takes over. No need to bring in outside talent.
SandyAlomar
I’m think Eric Gonzalez will get the spot.

The reason Rosenthal was great for a multi-inning fireman role was because of his high octane, dominate stuff. He’s an impact player when he has his control. Guys like Gant, Lyons, and Soco wouldn’t be a “multi inning fireman” they’d just be the swingman. The whole point of guys like Andrew Miller and Bettances is that they are extremely effective AND can pith multiple innings. If all you can do is pitch multiple innings at an average-slightly above average level, then that’s not really anything different than your everyday long reliever
Polish Hammer
Firemen? That role died out in baseball years ago…they used to come in late in the game with runners on and put out fires, now they are called closers and start the 9th with the bases empty and don’t have to pitch out of trouble.

So true.

Except for Andrew Miller and a few.
Pedro Cerrano's Voodoo
Trending back to the old ways though….

Have you seen Lyons pitch? Last season he was dominate and could pull multiple innings, so much so he could probably start if needed. Soco I see as more late reliever/closer, Gant a starter. I’d like to see Rosenthal actually start thou. I feel like he’d be pretty good.

Congrats, young Cards pitchers! You’re in contention for the extremely important multi-inning fireman/Betances role. You could gain prominence & do a vital job for your club. Then, after abusing your arm for 3 years, you’ll be told you’re just a garbage, valueless, common middle reliever. Hooray! Well, still better than MiLB money….

Pjmcnu – that’s about right. For a former catcher Matheny sure knows how to over work arms.
