Orange County native and Westminster HS alumni. His brother is a pitcher in the Reds organization and pitched a no hitter against the Angels AA affiliate last week.

That was almost a haiku.

Valdés got shelled today… gave up a 2-run HR in just one inning … It is going to be a long season for the Halos with a dismal and decimated pitching staff… I’m surprised we are still hanging in there …

What are you talking about? They just won 5 in a row and pushed their way back into second place and just a game and a half out of the wild card. Their pitching has been very good the past few weeks and they’re right in the middle of the AL in ERA. The only reason they’re not ranked higher is because of the ballooned ERA’s of extra pitchers like Meyer, Guerra, and Pounders. But when you look at their regular staff, none of their starters have ERA’s over 5.00, and all their regular relievers, Bailey and Bedrosian included, all have ERA’s under 4.00. The Angels btw are 9-1 when scoring 4 or more runs. So the offense is the reason they’re .500 right now. They’ve played in a lot of winnable low scoring ball games. It’s a good thing for the Astros that the Halos offense, which is 4th in the AL in hits, has struggled to cash in on golden opportunities, especially in that 4 game series between the two teams. Many teams expected to contend are already out of it, or on the verge. So let’s wait a bit before judging the Angels season. Because pretty much every projection has gone out the window around MLB.
