Giants Designate Kevin Padlo For Assignment

By Sean Bavazzano | June 8, 2022 at 6:53pm CDT

The Giants announced tonight that infielder Kevin Padlo has been designated for assignment. The move clears a spot on the team’s 40-man roster for catcher Austin Wynns, who was acquired earlier today from the Phillies.

The 25-year-old Padlo was scooped from the Mariners organization in April for cash and has spent the majority of the season between Seattle and San Francisco’s Triple-A affiliates. To his credit, the former fifth-rounder has continued to excel at the highest levels of the minor leagues. Through 22 games in Triple-A Sacramento, Padlo is hitting an excellent .275/.333/.600 with seven home runs and is a perfect 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts.

San Francisco’s depth-hoarding ways have made it difficult to find room for Padlo on the team’s big league roster, however. In sporadic action with the club last month he received just 12 at-bats, collecting two base hits before being shuttled back to the minors.

Padlo is now eligible to be claimed by any team in the league seeking right-handed infield depth in the upper minors or on their bench. That outcome isn’t inevitable, but seems likely given his recent hot streak at Triple-A.  The versatile infielder is in his last option year, so any team that is awarded a claim will have to keep Padlo on their 40-man roster or risk exposing him to waivers.

I know they’ve been ravaged by injuries, but the Giants are a puzzling team so far. They’re half young & spry, half old & decrepit. The least hyped pitcher (Junis) has been the ace; Rodon & Webb very average. Bullpen also mid. Will Farhan spend?

It’s Rodon, but you’re the self-appointed Giants’ expert after all.

          Oh, I forgot… LOL.

Lmao dude rondon is one of the best pitchers in the NL. He’s looking better than gore lol. His k/per9, his whip, and his hr/9 are in the top 5 best for NL starters. Plus he’s got shotty D behind him.

Puzzling ? They’re at best mediocre. They’ll be lucky to win 86 games this year. . Sort of feasted on beating bad teams in April. Now , they’re struggling with that. Just did a 10 game road trip against All losing below .500 teams and went 5-5. Then came home this week and dropped the first of three vs a dreadful Rockies team. They get LAD this weekend. Should be a nice wake up call for them. Bottom line is they have a massive talent problem. A bunch of over the hill guys mixed in with AAA scrubs. LOL . That won’t play over 162 in the NLWest

Jesus man. Can you go get your thrills somewhere else. Trolling a fan base for a little feel good is just so sad. I don’t know, maybe try getting a lady friend ? A new hobby possibly ? A penis extension ?

        Please. Something.

A Padres fan is trolling a team and saying they will be lucky to win 86 games this year? The same team that has not won as many as 80 games since 2010? That is too funny.

He’s a Dodgers fan. He does this on every giants post. It’s best to just ignore this clown and not give him the attention he seeks.

We all know what he is. He sits on these articles literally all day being toxic and negative. He’s the one throwing his life away.

He’s not a Padres, nor Dodgers fan. He’s the former @27ringsbitches, and @rightyspecialist, a Yankees fan. I’m not a fan of the NYYs, but there are some good guys that are. He gives Yankees fans, as well as Padres fans, a bad name.

He is best ignored. His takes are insipid, He’d rather hate on one team more than root for another. And, he’s just a really sad and pathetic person, apparently crying out for attention. Posting here is how he tries to get that attention.

I’d be mad too if I were a Padres fan. Man you got a small pp or what. Stay mad bud, Giants will still scrape out 90 this year no problem. You’re as big of a joke as the padres franchise, great fit for you.

Seems strange that this guy is doing so well at Aaa but 3 teams won’t give him a shot at the Major League level.

The real takeaway here is that a guy with a career OPS+ of 57 is viewed as an upgrade over Bart.
