Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe Matt Holliday cost the Cardinals a pick as they had traded for him before (re)signing him in the offseason.

Didn’t the Padres gain a pick from the Marlins for Bell?
Edit: Nevermind, that was under the old system and the Marlins’ first rounder is protected.
start_wearing_purple
I’m fairly certain they get a supplemental pick.

So how does this work again? Sorry but I swore I read somewhere that Carlos Pena signing with the Rays wound up netting the cubs a draft pick, but he’s not on this list.
//edit: Teams losing a pick must only be for Type A guys

the cubs get a supplementary pick between the 1st and 2nd rounds. The Rays don’t lose a pick.

The river avenue blues order needs a little updating, the phillies gain a spot ahead of the reds’ second round pick, and now the compensation for fielder
Brad
I thought the new CBA was such that the team that lost the player got a pick but the team that signed the player didn’t lose a pick.

The Nats didn’t give up a pick to sign Jayson Werth, only top half of standings teams give up picks.
Also, Adam Dunn cost the White Sox a pick. LOL. WORST. SIGNING. EVER.

Feel bad for Mets. They should have traded him when they had a chance. Definitely would have gotten more than a supplementary pick and 67th pick in a weak class.

It didn’t help the Mets’ cause that Reyes was on the Disabled List before the Trade Deadline.
FS54 2
Wasn’t Beltran also on DL or just got off DL? Anyways, according to game logs at BBref, reyes was playing regularly since July 19th.
Joveoak
Beltran was not on the disabled list while he was with the Mets during the 2011 season. You are confusing 2011 with 2010 (which he came off his knee surgery).
FS54 2
OK, that must have happened. Anyways Reyes was not on DL. I remember Peavy was traded when on DL, but I guess having control for more than just couple of months had a lot to do with the return Padres got.
Joveoak
You forgot that the Mets wanted to keep Reyes for a potential (ultimately fruitless) reunion.
Joveoak
(Double post. My apologies)

Awesome.

What happens next season when players are eligible for arbitration but not worth $12mmor whatever it is? I feel stupid saying I just don’t get this part.
LioneeR
All or nothing. Risk giving the guy 12+ million on a 1 year contract to get the pick compensation, or let him go and get nothing back.

Two draft picks for Papelbum? Sweet!

For the most part I like the changes.
I think they should have changed it to the average of the top 25(or whatever number) in that players POSITION. While it might become cloudy on some UTIL players, it would make that number a lot more indicative of what they deserve.
