Anybody see Appel putrid pitching performance yesterday? Topping out at 92, sitting consistently at 88-89 and having zero control? How much signing bonus does he want again? For a kid supposed to go #1 overall, not very impressive in your first outing after you get drafted. Especially the stuff being as lousy as it was.

Realistically that was one bad game. He is still a stud. He will get signed. I think the Pirates will go over slot but only to the point of getting a fine they wouldn’t jeopardize future picks.

He’s a good pitcher.. I’m just saying does he really think he is that great? Maybe he should look why he slid to #8 apparently no in the top 7 felt he was worth the “potential figure” signing bonus he wanted

Appel has to figure out that unless MLB decides to increase the draft pool values, which they have the right to, even if he is picked first overall he’s only going to get, at most, 4 million. That’s it. And he could easily get far less than the 2.9 or whatever he is being offered now. It could drop to a million, maybe even less if he gets hurt.

His delivery looks very bad as well, seems like it’s easy for guys to tee off on him. I don’t think he can become an ace in the majors, seems like he’ll get smashed a lot in the majors without having any deception at all.
I hope Pittsburgh signs him but if not, no big deal. I don’t want them to overpay and lose future picks because it’s not worth it.

The moment I laid eyes on him, he reminded me of Aaron Heilman of the Mets.
Hope he doesn’t have the same results.

the gun is slow on ESPN gauseman was in the high 80s too, an ESPN insider had appel low to mid 90s. He also dominated Florida State in his last outing, remember Gerrit Cole didn’t exactly dominate college either.

Man, that’s a bummer for St. Louis. I hope Garcia is alright, and if they have to shut him down for the rest of the year, then they should. There’s no sense in risking a complete tear of the labrum AND rotator cuff. As for the team, this is a bad injury. They are already struggling, losers of 18 of their last 29 or something, and while Lohse and Westbrook have held their own, it’s hard to keep your head above water when a starter goes down. Hopefully, Carp gets back soon for them.

Maybe his bad outing will make it a little easier for the bucs to sign him.

just another example of how this slotting system is absolute BS. it should be GREAT for the bucs to be able to sign this guy because he drops, instead, they cant sign him (or if they do will be taxed, etc). so stupid.
Jessamynn
but he only dropped b/c teams thought he’d be a tough sign.
he wouldn’t have dropped if the old system were still in place.

The Bucs bought themselves another draft pick for next year.

How can Garcia come back from that without surgery? Idk as a Cards fan this news sucks. We probably don’t have another Lance Lynn type guy to fill THIS spot.haha
