Andrew Miller Suffers Chip Fracture In Right Wrist

By Jeff Todd | March 30, 2016 at 7:09pm CDT

7:08pm: Miller has a chip fracture in his right wrist, Curry tweets. He will see a hand specialist to determine the best course of action to treat it.

4:39pm: Miller has undergone X-rays and they came back negative, Jack Curry of YES tweets. Miller still has to have a CT-scan.

3:03pm: Yankees reliever Andrew Miller left today’s action after taking a comebacker to his right wrist. It has been diagnosed as a bruise for now, but Miller is headed for further testing, as George A. King III of the New York Post was among those to tweet.

With Aroldis Chapman out for the first thirty games of the season, Miller was expected to reprise his closing duties from a year ago. The high-powered lefty has firmly established himself as one of the game’s very best relievers, and any absence would certainly tell. Of course, the Yankees also have yet another top-quality pen arm in Dellin Betances.

It’s obviously far too soon to know the prognosis, and the injury is far less worrisome than had it been to his opposing hand. But with Opening Day less than a week off, even a brief absence could well require a trip to the DL.

Bryan Mitchell also left the game today. He sprained his left toe going to first. What an awful day for the Yankees.

My sources have informed me that the Yankees are fitting Betances for a suit of armor as we speak.

That’s tough for the Yankees. The three headed monster at the back end of the bullpen now is down to one head. Without Chapman and Miller the Yankees bullpen is not going to be very good.

    No Chapman.

    No Miller.

    No Warren.

    No Wilson.

    No Mitchell.

Good the Yankees traded Wilson for 2 top prospects, Cessa and Green, that can step in and pick up where these players left off.

Cessa is not a top prospect. I’ve seen him pitch a bunch in the minors, he’s not even close to that. He was like 20th on the Mets depth chart.

Betances is the best of the three, IMHO. Of course, missing the other two will really hurt…

If he is out for any long length of time I wonder if some sort of package involving Teahran and Vizcaino with maybe a Super sub type like Jace Peterson could draw Gary Sanchez. I know more would have to come back but as s Brave fan I wouldn’t mind those 3 as a parameter for us getting Sanchez. They need somebody to back up Headley, bullpen looks a little bleak without Miller and Teahran would def be a huge upgrade probably stepping into the 2 spot behind Tanaka and ahead of Sorvino. With Pineada and Evoldi.

Pretty sure vizcaino was already a Yankee years ago. Doubt they’d trade for him.

They are calling up a guy named Torreyes to be a backup 3B

I don’t see them trading Sanchez and I also don’t see the Braves doing that deal.

Wait. So you’re a Braves fan and you want to give up Teheran, Vizcaino, and Peterson for Gary Sanchez?

What a terrible trade for the Braves and I’m not even that high on any of those 3.

That trade is redonkulous. Teheran was a league average pitcher last year who averaged close to 200 inning the last 3 years. You know what those pitchers get you? Carson Smith and Roenis Elias fetched Wade Miley, the definition of average.

Sanchez for Teheran alone is laughable.

teheran isnt even in the bullpen. teheran is a starter. try sending the yankees aaa team before fleecing the braves for one prospect.

Who said Teahran is in the bullpen ? I am just being realistic that Vizcaino couldn’t get the best catching prospect in baseball by himself and although Teahran is an ace for the Braves he is not a typical ace. Do u really feel a RP and a back up infielder will get a prospect of Sanchez level ? No they wouldn’t do Teahran gets thrown in and then the Yankees throw somebody else in or 2 to Equal it up.

The Yankees will be just fine. The good news is that it is his right wrist and he is a lefty.

The three headed bullpen didn’t last long. I mean if Betances gets the injured, it’s gonna get ugly.

Maybe I wasn’t clear I was just suggesting what it would take to get Sanchez a blue chip catching prospect with a gun for an arm that absolutely raked in the Arizona league. I am just interested in hearing what it would take on both ends for it to happen. I didn’t mean to suggest those 3 for Sanchez I am sure it would take more from the Yankees to get it done but unquestionably my focal point on the return would be Sanchez

I think they are better off keeping him. Who knows how long McCann will last as a catcher, and he (Sanchez) is the 2nd best catching prospect in baseball.

I also think the Braves are better off keeping the players you listed.

Yeah maybe there is not a match he is a 2nd best catching prospect but he is blocked. I just know the Braves are in need of a catcher of the future and a 3rd baseman possibly a stop gap or a few years and sometimes when you have a need you may have to over pay a little I like Teahran and I think he is going to have a huge bounce back year but to me the other 2 are replaceable I would think the Yankees could see more value in them for their needs. And I was not suggesting Sanchez would be the only return just the center piece. You have to give something to get something. And I don’t see the Yankees giving up Judge cause he will replace Brltran shortly. Bird replaces Tex. Severino isn’t going anywhere nor Mateo. McCann has Sanchez blocked his talent I would over pay.

I always liked Miller. Even though he’s playing for the yanks I hate to see this happen to a guy who finally figured out where his talent was.
