Giants To Sign Ruben Tejada To Minors Deal

By Jeff Todd | June 13, 2016 at 8:14pm CDT

The Giants have inked infielder Ruben Tejada, Connor Grossman of KNBR reports. It’s a minor league deal for the 26-year-old.

Tejada was recently cut loose by the Cardinals, who had signed him to a $1.5MM deal as they looked to fill in at shortstop. Previously, Tejada was tendered a contract by the Mets but then released before his $3MM deal became guaranteed. They owe him $491K after that move.

For San Francisco, Tejada provides another middle infield option for the organization. He’s a steady but unexciting player who generally rates just below average at the plate and with the glove at short. He struggled early in St. Louis, slashing just .176/.225/.235 over forty trips to the plate.

Good pick up for the Sfgiants.
Wonder if the Sfgiants would give Carl Crawford a shot.

The $35 million or whatever he has left is owed by the Dodgers no matter who gets him. Whatever team wants Crawford can get him for minimum wage.

Hes cheap at the legue minimum, doesnt hurt to give him some at bats, i am all in to see Parker get at bats its either see strike outs or the ball in play with Crawfords contact

Tejada still seems young enough to be useful. When he came up he was a good on-base guy with reasonably good defense up the middle. Don’t quite see an opening for him in SF but he could surprise. Considering the struggles of Panik and Duffy this season he might work his way into a role.

Crawford would be worth a look for the minimum. A change of scenery might jump start him.

Try for Crawford just to replace Pence and then you can send Crawford down or trade him
