The White Sox have outrighted right-hander Jacob Turner to Triple-A, per a club announcement. That move leaves the organization with one open 40-man spot at present.
Though he is still just 25 years of age, the once-touted TurnerĀ has still not shown signs of reaching his former promise. He wasn’t terribly effective even at the Triple-A level, and was bombed for a 6.57 ERA over 24 2/3 major league innings.
Neither were the peripherals terribly promising. Opposing hitters made hard contact on nearly 40% of the balls they put in play against Turner. He ended with just 6.6 K/9 against a messy 5.8 BB/9 and sported a 26.3% home run-per-flyball rate to go with his more-promisingĀ 51.2% groundball rate.

Boras should just give this guy 5 bucks a day to throw BP at his funny farm instead of continually attempting to play. He’s already been with half the organizations and nobody wants him.

Tigers probably should have taken one Mike Trout over Jacob Turner.

Doc Halladay
I would have sworn this guy was older than 25. Feels like I’ve been hearing about him forever.
What I’m surprised about is how no team has ever really employed the “Roy Halladay” treatment to guys like Turner. Completely rebuild a once promising pitcher’s delivery by pairing him with a coach(Mel Queen rebuilt Halladay). Obviously Doc is the exception and not the rule but considering most teams throw money away on guys like Mike Pelfrey on a near daily basis, what’s a few hundred thousand to a pitcher and possible coach?

One has to wonder how many chances Jacob Turner would have had if he weren’t a former #1 draft pick. His last two MLB opportunities were in Chicago, with the Cubs in 2014 and the White Sox this past season. Both clubs employ highly regarded pitching coaches and Turner still hasn’t produced decent numbers.
