It seems like more and more players are leaving MLB and signing internationally somewhere, instead of trying their luck in the minor leagues.

Yes, they are. Because they know they can make double the amount of a minor league contract if they get the right deal over seas.
TheMichigan
Because why would they want to make less than 100k in the states when they could make 800k plus overseas
yeahhhjeets
Why not? Players get more money than wasting away in the minors and a chance to pad their stats to potentially make a MLB come back.

Erick Thames, is that you?

Yeah I’m not saying I disagree with the decision, I just wonder why it’s happening more. What’s changed from 10 years ago when no one ever did it?
davidcoonce74
Because the minor leagues just don’t pay very well.

I think if your ops is less than .500 from one side it’s time to give up switch hitting
reflect
I completely agree. There’s a few switch hitters in MLB that I question.

Parades is the third 2016 Phillie to sign overseas this offseason. That really gives you an idea where they were talent-wise last year.

“He’s listed as an infielder on the Marines’ official web site, so it seems fair to expect Paredes to spend most of his time at either second or third base in his first taste of Japanese baseball.”
Jimmy Paredes will be used primarily as an outfielder though, replacing Alfredo Despaigne (after the team failed to re-sign him).
