God damn that’s unfortunate! Guess whoever buys the Marlins has some rebuilding to do. Is Stanton’s contract too large to be a deadline deal?
HubcapDiamondStarHalo
So that just begs a thread…
You’re the GM of your favorite MLB team. You get a call that says, “What would you give us for Stanton?” Your reply?
bastros88
depends on the team, I know the astros might not have the financial capacity to take on a Stanton contract, so I probably wouldn’t take him
wiggysf
A hot dog? Stanton’s contract is 2x too big for him and 2x too long. No one wants it.
ReverieDays
Nothing, because he makes way too much and isn’t worth it in my eyes.
tim815
I guess I look at this the other way.
If the Marlins can make a trade to replace Rojas, are they still considering themselves contenders?
notagain27
Apparently the people bidding 1.3 BILLION Dollars aren’t worried too much about Stanton’s contract.

I’m obviously still missing something. Stanton only has about 3 years/$77 million left on his deal after this year
AidanVega123
That’s if he opts out, I believe
formerlyz
So when he opts out…if he is healthy until then, he’ll put up numbers to get him more than the 7 years/$218 million remaining after the fact.
Phillies2017
They really have nothing at AAA, so I’m assuming they just hope for an infielder to hit the waiver wire or they call up a non-competitor like San Diego and grab an Erick Aybar type for a C prospect like Raudel Lazo or John Norwood
