Tommy Hunter got 18 million over two years. Granted, that includes a 6 million signing bonus.
I’m pretty positive Hahn and Co. is planning on going all in on Machado next year. I’m not even close to sold it’ll work, but they aren’t going to throw away the opportunity just to sign a mediocre player like Moose to a big contract. The only way it happens is if his price comes down SUBSTANTIALLY (it won’t). Plus, Yolmer is only 25 years old and coming off a very good season – he’ll get the starting gig.
Agreed, Hahn isn’t going to throw a bunch of money at a guy that barely gets on base 30% of the time.
I mean the overall numbers for both Miley and Holland aren’t good. But Miley had some bad fortune. Holland somehow was worse than his peripherals. His fastball is bad. He can’t find the K zone. And his slider doesn’t sweep hard enough for RHP to bite. Maybe a LHRP because he was effective against lefties. But he was torched.
Miley beat Holland in every meaningful category in 2017 (WAR, FIP, ERA, K/9). I doubt that Jason knows what he’s talking about to be honest.
Derek Holland as a starting pitcher is an absolute joke. The one guy in FA who throws less strikes than wade Miley.

Maybe a stretch on Miley having bad fortune 5.27 FIP 5.61 ERA. He was fairly close. If he can consistently throw strikes again there’s a shot he can bounce back though. Was never a major problem until this year either. Holland is garbage though. Can’t believe anyone would take him over Miley.
I was surprised to read that Jason Martinez “could see the Angels, Mariners and Nats having some interest” in Jonathan Lucroy after Seattle catcher Mike Zunino tripled Lucroy’s fWAR total last season, 3.6 to 1.2. The 26-year-old Zunino remains under team control for three years with a projected 2018 salary of only $3.2 million.
For what it’s worth, Steamer600, which assumes 450 plate appearances for each catcher, projects 2018 WAR of 2.6 for Lucroy and 2.6 for Zunino.
I feel like writers try to make Seattle’s catching situation a problem. Zunino is a fine catcher with a little more upside left in the tank. He’s at least better than half the catchers in baseball. If he ever cut down on those strike outs you’re easily looking at a top 10 catcher.

Is it just me or is Jason the odd man out on this site? Everyone has good input and interesting chats, except Jason whose chats are really short and full of weird answers. I almost want to make a list of his weird answers after every chat.
Moustakas to CHW?! Why would they give up a draft pick for him? Why should they convince him that they can contend in 2019? How is signing Hosmer good?
How is Holland better than Miley? Holland had a -1.6 WAR in 2017!! Miley had a -0.3 WAR. Miley beats him in FIP with 5.27 to 6.45, in ERA with 5.61 to 6.20 and K/9 with 8.1 to 6.9.
I have been saying this for months. He’s terrible. I don’t even bother reading his chats at this point, just click on the comments if I see there are a bunch of them.
The only good part about Jason’s chats is seeing that face he makes which makes it looks like someone just farted.
