Rangers Claim John Andreoli

By Jeff Todd | January 15, 2019 at 2:02pm CDT

The Rangers have claimed outfielder John Andreoli off waivers from the Mariners, according to club announcements. He had been designated for assignment recently.

Whether this’ll be the final landing spot for Andreoli remains to be seen. He was bumped from the Orioles’ 40-man at the end of October, landing back in Seattle — where he spent the bulk of the 2018 season.

Andreoli began his career with the Cubs organization, but never cracked the bigs there despite three consecutive full seasons (2015-17) at Triple-A. He made it up to the majors for the first time last year, but received only minimal opportunities. Through nearly two thousand career plate appearances at the highest level of the minors, Andreoli is a .264/.371/.408 hitter with 121 stolen bases.

They need pitching, not an extra outfielder.

Does he play CF? My guess is that Texas will pick a moment to drop him off the 40 with hopes of getting him through waivers. They always need in season inventory.

Not a bad idea. The Rangers need help in many areas. Harper or Manny might be good for 2020.

Fairly similar batting average to Harper’s last year, and his WAR is within 1 1/2 of Harper’s in 2018…

My advice for John Andreoli…don’t buy a house anywhere.

He is a really hardworking kid. I know him and his family. Give him a chance!

Pretty significant move. He has the same hair dresser as Harper……and the same chimney sweep as Machado……

I watched him play at Daytona for a while and as a Cub fan, followed him through Iowa before he departed. I always though he was a real solid player and could play in the bigs as a 4th outfielder. He’s god excellent speed and OB skills, and is a solid defender. I still think he will make it.
