The Cubs are preparing to place starter Jon Lester on the 10-day injured list, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPNChicago.com (via Twitter). He was due to undergo further medical examination today after suffering a hamstring injury yesterday.
It still isn’t known how serious the injury is. Lester indicated after the game that he felt optimistic, even suggesting he might not need to miss a start. But he’ll be shelved for at least an outing or two with the IL placement.
Losing Lester, even for a brief stretch, will present another obstacle for a Cubs team that has stumbled out of the gates. He has been the anchor of the Chicago rotation ever since he landed with the organization, continuing to produce good results of late even as his stuff and peripherals have faded.
The Cubs would typically just turn the ball over to Mike Montgomery, but he’s hurt. That could mean that Tyler Chatwood will reenter the rotation, though his control problems have yet to abate in a relief role. Alec Mills represents another 40-man possibility.
Cue the White Sox fanboys inputs!
The cubs still made the right decision to trade Moncada for him /s
Is joshua high or just extremely slow?
BTW Moncada batting .326 with another HR today.
Moncada would be a favorite to win MVP this year if not for Tim Anderson!
We are happy to be here to entertain you.
You know the grand plan to sign Machado, that the White Sox had worked on since July. The plan that was heavily incentive based on plate appearances, that anyone with a brain knows the team can control. The plan that no superstar in their right mind would sign. That’s all the White Sox could come up with since working on it since last July. That Machado…
The Cubs May have some terrible contracts like Heyward, but at least stars want to play for them, unlike the cities second team White Sox.
*something something* “ThE wInDoW iS sLaMmEd ShUt” – themed, chitown311, chisoxcity, etc
Stick a fork in them
Cubs have scored 10 or more in 5 of 10 games. Won 2. #1 offense, dead last in pitching. They actually have a couple of pitchers in the minors to try. But not in place of Lester. Not good.
Well it was bound to happen
They built their offense core on young players and their pitching on older veterans
They won 3
Tired of the three thing. The Dodgers have won 6 division titles.
Yes but Cubs won 3 games
Ping me on Memorial Day to ask me if I’m worried yet.
It’s only going to be embarrassing and it’s going to get worse mom. But hey they won that one measly World Series in 111 years what more could you ask for really?
Yes and we got more joy out of that than you Mr.Smug got out of all the Cards WS wins combined.
No you got 1. I’ve seen 6 mom!
111 years yep same thing.
Oh no, the predictions of a sub .500 season are becoming true.
U got that right.
Does anyone care or listen to Whitesox fans…….not that theres that many
Haha… sadly no one takes them seriously. I tuned in for a few minutes to see the much anticipated (at least by thirsty W Sux fans) of the great E Santana today. Of course he wet himself and of course you could literally count how many (technically how few) fans were in the seats. Just sad, just pathetic. They get out drawn by minor league teams. No wonder Machado turned him down. His agent called and said “Chicago has a great offer!” Manny “The Cubs?!?!?” Agent “Oh, ummm no, the White Sox” Manny “Hahahaha, NO. I’d rather play for the F’n Padres… and you’re so fired”.
Closet Sox fan?!
Thanks for tuning in.
Haha…. chiming in on yet ANOTHER Cubs post? Hahaha, clown. Who’s the closet fan?
Bocephus invited us Sox fans.
Nobody cares about the White Sox, other than the couple idiots who forget that the White Sox have been rebuilding since 2010
i am probably confused. Is it the 10 day or the 15 day IL now? I thought it got changed back to the 15 day but maybe that is not until future years..
stan lee the manly
It will be back to the 15 day next year, we’ve still got the 10 day this year
It used to be 15 day but it was changed to ten day I think…..
Hopefully Jon Lester’s MRI will show nothing and that he can return to the rotation after his 10 day IL stint. The Cubs don’t have many other SP options with their “financial” limitations, Mike Montgomery already on the IL and little help at AAA. At this point it is down to Tyler Chatwood and some assistance from the weather gods who may help them out with an unscheduled off-day as soon as tomorrow with rain, sleet and snow in the Chicago forecast.
Spahn and Sain, then pray for rain!
So now I guess it’s Hamels and Hendricks and pray for rain…not that either of them have done that well so far, either?
Are you familiar with how much the Cubs have actually spent? That they’re over the cap and already paying tax? Or are you just shooting from the hip trying to act like the Cubs are being cheap?
Finally they’ve got to deal with injuries like most other teams do frequently. The last 4 or 5 years they’ve been very fortunate. Me thinks that little window is closing and closing fast.
You’re an idiot on so many levels. They dealt with tons of injuries last year.
Cubs should think about hiring a trainer and nutrition expert so that the players can run the bases without coming up lame.
Damn man who hurt you? You seem happy that they’re dealing with injuries… that’s not normal.
Ry is correct. Last year almost every player was on the IL at some point, especially Kris Bryant.
Bryant needs to be taught how not to slide into first base -head first or otherwise.
Bryant has never slid into first. Unless it was on a pick off attempt. Albert Almora slides head first into first.
Right on cue.
LOL yeah, no injuries last year! Do you watch baseball or just focus on disliking certain teams?
Hahaha take it easy on themed. He’s proven not to be the sharpest tool in the shed. It’s like picking on the kid in the corner eating paste (themed can relate) Morrow, Bryant, Yu, Rizzo all missed significant time just last year… but sure, this clown knows what he’s talking about… lol
Marrow and Yu were injury prone anyway. The other guys didn’t really miss any significant time.
I can smell the smoke of the fire sale..
Yes. Time to overreact two weeks into the season. And this is one reason no one on this board will ever sniff a job in mlb.
Can’t make the playoffs in april but you can knock yourself out of them and the Cubs are very much doing that.
10 games played. 152 to go so not really. Them and the cards are still heavy favorites to win the nl central..
Ask the 2018 Dodgers if you can be knocked out in April
Please not Chatwood
They should just call up Duane Underwood jr put chatwalk on the 60 day DL
This was old but intersting news
The old news was the injury itself, which we covered last night. The IL placement was just reported and hasn’t yet been announced.
What do you expect? They’re still dropping off season reviews on here.
This wouldn’t be that big a deal if the farm system wasn’t completely devoid of starting pitching.
Maybe Theo can dig up some 2019 equivalent of Scott Feldman or Paul Maholm.
Or get the actual Scott Feldman
Can’t the Cubs call up Cease?!
Oh wait… sorry.
Why don’t the W Sux call up Cease? Oh wait.. sorry…. or no, why don’t they? MLBTR just did a piece on how the W Sux have the worst rotation in all of baseball and it’s not close. Hahahaha, W Sux trolls… really? Literally the most irrelevant joke in all of sports and their fanbase has trolls? Gotta love the irony. It’s looking bright though… finally, signing Machado will certainly speed up this listless rebuild… Oh wait… sorry. Hahaha clowns.
Sox plan to control Cease for that extra service time – that is until the Sox lock him up for next 10 years.
No hurry to bring him up.
Dallas Keuchel come on down . We will make the price right
When Tom Ricketts was trying to convince daddy Joe that buying the Cubs would be a good business move, one of things he mentioned was that Cubs fans will turn out no matter how bad the team is.
Now that Tom got his WS, I think that Joe wants to test that statement. No payroll increases.
Now that Tom got his WS, I think
I saved that article as well as the one where his emails leaked haha
I also believe what you stated is true, they got the title, “broke the curse” lol I mean it’s the owner how can anybody ignore his words?
They broke “the curse”when they won the pennant
Craig Kimbrel makes more sense for the Cubs and would be a less expensive investment. That being said, Tom Ricketts keeps beating around the bush every time he opens his mouth publicly about the Cubs current financial situation but is essentially crying poor when it comes to opening the purse strings to acquire either FA pitcher.
The Cubs are over the salary cap and already paying taxes. They actually have spent a lot of money unlike some teams that can’t find any good players that would ever sign with them like the White Sox.
No salary cap in baseball genius. They are way under the luxury tax however.
Clearly I meant luxury tax. And they are for sure 100% over the first luxury tax limit and paying tax genius.
Keuchel? What?!? Hahaha, if anything Kimbrel. The Cubs already have starter depth and second, Lester is only gonna miss 1 or 2 starts.
What starter depth? They have Chatwood, who’s been terrible, and hardly anyone else at the moment.
Isn’t Hamels gone next year? Keuchel would be a good replacement .
Two simple words. Two simple words of the English language. Dallas. Keuchel.
lolol go get’em Chatwood.
Hahaha, clown. Chatwood would literally be the ace on the W Sux. Santana was brilliant in his much anticipated (well, at least for W Sux fans) debut. There is nothing more silly than a Northwest Indiana White Sux troll. Seriously? How does easily the worst team in baseball for the last several years have trolls?!? Hahaha, You do realize that no one in Chicago cares about your time, much less nationally.
At least the Sox didn’t guarantee $126MIL to Santana – like the Cubs did to 32 year old Yu!!
2019 Current Team ERA:
White Sox 6.35 (29th)
cubs 6.70 (30th)
“Bbb-but, we won 95 games, mmkay” lol
Who looks at stats and standings in April?!? Oh, novice and thirsty Sux fans. Check back with me later… around October when it really counts. Unless you actually think the worst team in baseball with the worst pitching in baseball will statistically compare to the Cubs? Nahhhh, even you’re not that simple. Again, thanks for stopping by ANYTHING Cubs related. So thirsty. So obsessed… so sad.
….. and the Cubs did win 95… actually that’s their average over the last 4 years. The Sux? Haha, LOST 95 in ‘17… then LOST 100 in ‘18. Might top that this year… wait, why are you trolling again? hahaha, clown
See, the difference for Sox fans is we didn’t expect to win many games this years. But you guys…. lol! You guys actually thought you were gonna hahaha! Win with that pitching hahaha!! And that bullpen ahahaha!!!
The difference for Sox fans is that there are 8 of you and at least half are in cook County jail on any given day.
The White Sox could never guarantee a free agent that kind of money because other than washed up has beens, no would ever sign with them. At least people want to play with the Cubs
bush1, yeah? Who might these people be that want to play for the cubs. I recall atleast two catchers who turned down the cubs to go elsewhere. Even Chavez, who claimed to want to be a chu, er, cub, left for more money. You see, the reality is no one wants to play for a cheapskate. Both Chicago teams fit that description.
What are you talking about? There’s all kinds of stars that want to play for the Cubs. It was well known Harper wanted the Cubs bad, but they didn’t have the cap space. The Cubs were one of the 3 teams Stanton was willing to waive his no trade along with the Dodgers and Yanks.
Along with many others. It’s abundantly clear the Cubs are a team that most big time free agents/superstars want to play for. It’s not hidden information.
First off, Boras merely used the cubs as leverage. There was never any serious interest. Same for the Sox and a few other teams.
As for being a choice destination, cubs offered two high profile catchers a contract this past offseason. Both passed on the cubs to go elsewhere, so what are you talking about?
Let’s check that average over the last 10 years for cub wins. Did you forget that tanking team from 2010 to 2015? Last place 5 years in a row ?
Those catchers didn’t sign with the Cubs because the Cubs have one of the best catchers in the game and they’d rarely play. You know the guy that’s absolutely mashing right now, Contreras. So backup catchers are an idiotic example. I’m talking about superstars and where they want to play. Harper did want to play for the Cubs, but believe what you want.
Contreras can hit a little, but he’s terrible behind the plate. You tell by their body language that none of the cubs pitchers like the way he frames pitches or calls games. He can’t ever sit still or get set without distracting his pitcher. He moves his glove around like he’s on meth or something. Anyway, neither McCann or the other veteran catcher (name escapes me) is starting anymore. So your point is moot. Guys don’t want to play for the cubs because they don’t pay enough. The only reason Darvish came there is no other team offered a longterm deal.
I’m serious when asking this, but as a White Sox fan, whose team is always at the bottom of payroll and who is currently spending well under $100 Million less than the Cubs how can you argue the Cubs don’t pay enough? I mean what the heck is your own team doing then? I know the Sox are rebuilding yet again, but it’s not even remotely close, and the White Sox will never spend the type of money the Cubs are now even when they’re computing. Why even argue this as a White Sox fan? I’m more curious than anything?
Sure, the Cubs have made mistakes on contracts, and it hurt their ability to spend this year. But clearly spending is something they do much more then most teams, and especially the White Sox.
As far as Contreras goes, sure he has flaws but there’s no doubt he’s above average. So you’re going to bring the backup catchers as evidence that superstars don’t want to play for the Cubs? That argument doesn’t make much sense either.
The Cubs have made mistakes, no doubt. But spending is something they do way more of then what you’re team does. It’s blatantly obvious. Why even go there?
I don’t get it… the Cubs have the 2nd highest payroll in the league and they’re still cheap? Does that not make you a troll?
Going to game Sunday. This sucks. Going from seeing Lester to seeing chatwood… well I’ll be rocking out in the bleachers turnt up anyway hoping to catch a trout Dinger. This furthers those odds.
Ha ha I’m going Sunday as well. Trout day to day so may miss him too. Enjoy the Wrigley statue give away. 3 Floyd’s zombie dust will make chatwood more bearable
Haha….love it when the Cub fans are more concerned about the White Sox attendance than their own team..haha.
Big loss for the cubs. Hopefully he comes back shortly. They won’t go after Dallas as they have reached their budget unless they wanna take the luxury tax hit this year before salary comes off the books after the season ends
The Cubs have the third highest payroll in baseball. And they’re spending over $100 MILLION MORE than the White Sox!! How I’m the world can a White Sox fan argue this! Sure, Contreras isn’t perfect, but the guys they would have signed would’ve been backups and not played much. My point 100% still stands. I really can’t believe I’m arguing about what a team pays with a White Sox fan and that’s mind blowing. The White Sox would never approach a $200 million payroll. What a joke
