Giants Claim Joey Rickard, Place Nick Vincent On 60-Day IL

By Jeff Todd | June 21, 2019 at 1:16pm CDT

The Giants have claimed outfielder Joey Rickard from the Orioles, per a club announcement. He had been designated for assignment recently.

To create 40-man roster space, the club placed reliever Nick Vincent on the 60-day injured list. He has been sidelined for nearly a month already with a pec strain.

Rickard will become the latest outfielder to get a look with the San Francisco organization, though he could open up his tenure at Triple-A. He’s a .245/.299/.372 hitter through 924 career plate appearances in the majors.

As for Vincent, this move seems to take away any hope that he’d be a mid-summer trade piece for the Giants. Vincent had a great start to the year before hitting a rough patch in his last several outings. Even if he’s able to get back to health, the veteran righty won’t be eligible for activation until just before the trade deadline.

Seriously. This move has finally got me questioning the motive of this New front office. . .
There is no formula. Just throw stuff at the wall. See what sticks. . .

I’m gonna bail now. Still be a fan of the team. But I’ve got more important things to do in life, than watch Giants Baseball moves. . .

I’m officially on the fence with Farhan front office baseball. . .

Here’s the thing. You don’t find a diamond in the rough in a pile of diamonds. If these guys work out, great, if they don’t, it’s no big loss.

Exactly. Anxious Giants fans point to Max Muncy as if Farhan batted 1.000 with the Dodgers. Theres a reason why these guys are diamonds in the rough … one gem in a massive pile of rocks.

No he’s just one of the few. Actual Giant fans understand what Zaidi is doing. People expect overnight magic when the guy inherited a mess

Giants have one of the greatest fanbases in all sports. The team has been amply supported through thick and thin, with a league leading attendance over the last decade, supporting players the rest of the league dismisses, displaying our insanity with bright orange and black everywhere. Your assessment is invalid and asinine.

Bro, they paid a hefty price unloading the farm for those three rings, now you have to move pieces to get back into contention. Yankees haven’t been to the World Series since 2009. Just the Giants turn to regroup is all.

Oakland has dustin fowler and skye bolt in AAA ready to go but blocked. Would either of them be enough for a MadBum rental trade?

Oakland probably values Fowler more then other teams, (they would not get enough of an offer to want to move him) and bolt is probably just a throw in. eventually, too, Farhan will have to chill on the OF claiming binge.

Vincent was a solid reliever in Seattle for the last few years. Hopefully he can bounce back.

Rickard could be a useful 4th OF, or even a potential platoon OF, if he could just show the same plate discipline in the majors that he has consistently shown in the minors. He hammers LHP but he just doesn’t draw enough walks and strikes out too much, which are the opposite of what he showed in the minors. I wish him luck, He’s a good guy.

Giants outfield is nothing but 4th outfielder/platoon types. He’ll hit right in.

Connor Joe! No…um…Michael Reed. Or was it Reed Michael? Gerardo Parra? No. Mac Williamson? Mike Gerber, Yangervis Solarte? No, No, No. Hmm.

You know what’s worse? When Giants fans don’t want to name any of their current OFs.

Here’s the deal. Eventually one of these guys is gonna work out for SF. It could take 150 more waiver claims but eventually….

And when one finally does, all of Farhan Zaidi’s fanboys will endlessly crow about what a great evaluator of talent. Even though that’s literally the opposite of what he’s doing. He’s just trying to get lucky.

No OF is too mediocre for Zaidi to sign. He’ll literally bring in anyone as long as he doesn’t have to call up Austin Slater or Chris Shaw.
