Zac Rosscup Elects Free Agency

By Steve Adams | June 3, 2019 at 12:05pm CDT

12:05pm: The team announced that Rosscup has elected free agency rather than take an outright assignment, as is his right as a player with more than three years of big league service time.

10:20am: Left-hander Zac Rosscup cleared waivers and was assigned outright to Triple-A Buffalo by the Blue Jays following last week’s DFA, per the team’s transactions page.

Rosscup, 31 next week, appeared in just two games with the Jays after being claimed off waivers out of the Mariners organization, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts in one inning. Rosscup has posted huge swinging-strike rates over the past couple of seasons and demonstrated an ability to rack up strikeouts in bunches — 42 in his past 26 innings — but his control has been evaporated in 2019. Through 15 innings of work this year, he’s allowed 16 walks and thrown two wild pitches.

Control issues notwithstanding, Rosscup averages 92.4 mph on his fastball and has generated a gaudy 23.7 percent swinging-strike rate on his slider since the start of the 2018 campaign. He’s also out of minor league options, so any club that eventually puts him back on the big league roster would need to expose him to waivers again if it wished to then send him back to the minors.

Waiting for the post saying the Cubs brought him back instead of spending money.

Shapiro and Atkins are perfect examples of P.T. Barnum’s statement “There’s a sucker born every minute” . Only there two got greedy and went back for a second helping.
They sign Norris, Buchholtz, Richards, Rosscup, Jackson.
There are 30 teams in the MLB and 29 of them didn’t want any of these players. Right now the Jays have two decent starting pitchers Stroman and Sanchez.
They have no consistent hitting beyond Smoak.
Guerrero, Biggio Tellez will be part of the future but they are still learning.

If you’re going to be critical, at least be right. Jackson and Rosscup were both signed by other teams, so you’re wrong on the 29 other teams part. They’re rebuilding anyways, a zero risk, all reward pitcher in Buchholz is not something you should be upset about.

Buchholtz hasn’t pitched a full season in years his best time was with Boston before they cut him loose. And while he does show glimmers he has a long history of breaking down. He likely is the best of those picked up.
Rosscup was placed on waivers by the Mariners and Jays claimed him and he did not show them enough to keep him after pitching in two games. He has a hi strike out ratio but its in streaks and he has control problems, Jays placing him on waivers after two games does show much confidence. And Jackson the guy was pitching in the A’s minor league system and Jays got him for cash. He’s 35yr old and has 16 yrs in the majors and pitched for a record 14 teams. His day has come and gone.

If you’re really nitpicking here, JD is not the Goat. At least be right.

Rosscup won’t be unemployed long. I imagine the Dodgers would like to have him back, but I’m sure the Nats have already made him an major league offer he can’t refuse.

Nitpicking, 14 teams in 16 seasons should tell you something, the man is 35 and he’s played for half almost half of the major league teams. I’m just saying if your truly in a rebuild then you don’t bring in a sub par pitcher and put him in as a starter. I recognize that a number of the pitchers are on the il , But the team isn’t hitting and your starters are more often then not getting shelled. Stroman and Sanchez can’t carry the load. Thorton looks like a keeper but he’s young and may need some time.
Currently it just seems like they are just shifting the deck chairs on the Titanic. Some people think 3yrs for the rebuild. I’m betting closer to 10yrs.
Shapiro and Atkins did nothing in Cleveland what makes you think they will do anything here.

Thornton will be average. Jays have a massive pitching issue. Probably should have loaded up more arms in the draft.

Yes I’m not saying he’s good or anything. But you have to realize he wasn’t exactly plan A,B,C, or D. He was brought in because they haven’t had any reliability from Shoemaker, Buchholz, Sanchez, or Richard, and haven’t even seen Borucki. They’re already getting into the double digits on their depth charts. There’s just simply not much that could’ve been done at this point. I guess you can argue that they should’ve went after younger AAAA players to load up AAA with who might have an outside chance at contributing, but that’s not very appealing. There’s not many good guys who would’ve been open to starting at AAA and waiting until the time came.

On the Buchholz signing, it was just simply all upside. Three million is nothing to these teams. Every team takes gambles like this, there is no risk.

As for the rebuilding teams not using old, veteran pitchers to eat innings, that’s not true. The only team that I count that in fact doesn’t is the Marlins.

And yes, you’re correct. They are shuffling deck chairs in the titanic. I was kind of expecting that this year and more than likely next year. But as for their ability to build a winner, that’s off. They left Cleveland and that team immediately went to the World Series and was a sustainable winner. The new regime is not what made that happen. They brought in Miller, that’s about it.

I never said anything about Titanic. Even your low IQ can read this: I am not Jimmertree. I don’t use hashtags or claim to be a scout. Just because I don’t bully him like you and other mental midgets on this site doesn’t mean this is a burner account as you’ve claimed.

Get off the internet, man. You’ve made it clear you never want to be rational, and now you can’t even follow a simple thread. I’ll make it clear to you, I don’t respond to your trolling anymore. So I don’t know why you have to respond to every one of my posts. My posts cannot actually make your life as miserable as you make it seem.
