Cubs, Corban Joseph Agree To Minor League Deal

By Steve Adams | January 31, 2020 at 1:51pm CDT

The Cubs have agreed to a minor league contract with infielder Corban Joseph, tweets Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. The PSI Sports Management client will be in Major League camp this spring.

Joseph, 31, has appeared in the big leagues in each of the past two seasons — albeit on a very limited basis. He’s played in just 44 MLB games, tallying 94 plate appearances and posting a tepid .170/.213/.261 batting line with a homer and five doubles.

That said, Joseph is a fairly accomplished Triple-A hitter with some defensive versatility. In parts of six Triple-A seasons, he’s a .294/.362/.457 hitter, and he has experience at second base, third base and first base over the course of a 12-year professional career.

108 years of no championships gives us every right and more rights than any other organization in the MLB, Cleveland included. That said I’m not complaining much as a Cubs fan. But just know what the reality has been for our fanbase

I always come to PNC Park to watch Cubs games once a year. Beautiful Park, beautiful city, good respectful fans, with a good historical knowledge. Always loved Pittsburgh and the pirates. Even as a Cubs fan

Blackandyellow3 speaks truth. Just enjoy the games, pirates always find value in guys who’ve been forgotten.

Member that guy Steve Pearce? He was the bargain basement Quad A flier for many years. To a world series MVP.

Babybears——let’s not forget that two past “dumpster dives”…….. Dexter Fowler and Mike Montgomery started and finished game seven of the 2016 World Series. You just never know what you may find in there…….

Personally, I’m not educated to know enough or wise enough to know if a guy who can’t even figure out which is a first name and which is a last name will be any good, so I will leave that up to those that know baseball.

Until today I have fought the urge to join Team Dumpster Diving Theo because in truth Theo has gone big many times he’s just whiffed and that’s what’s gotten him in this situation but today is the day I cross over. When you start averaging 2-3 minor league signings a week I’m not sure what else you can call it. I wonder what the actual cost of all these guys are when it’s all said and done. It’s like a one dollar scratcher addiction it has to add up to something

Seth—-just to make sure I wasn’t seeing things I scrolled back through yesterday’s and today’s post on MLBTR and counted close to 25 of these type moves. Stretch that over a week and the 2-3 the Cubs are doing is pretty much standard across the industry.

As a Cub fan I find it and nothing but respect that others “care” about any move the Cubs make. You will be hard pressed to find me commenting on any other team (never in a negative light) because I just don’t care about other teams.

Believe me, I have a brother that is a die hard Sox fan and he hates it a lot more that I don’t care about them and that I don’t cheer for them to lose. Apathy is much more powerful than hatred. Hatred is an emotion.

I was honestly overstating a bit just for humor you guys are right. Like I said I don’t really think it’s fair given what Theo and Jed have tried to do. They’ve really pushed to go all in just some misses in there. Some I can honestly say most gms would have made the same mistakes. The Cardinals outbid the Cubs for Heyward they just got unlucky Heyward chose them. I’m honestly a Cards fan but not a troll. I’m a fan of the game and was really interested to see a team try and subtract from their current roster talent to get better for 2020 but I just haven’t seen it. Usually when you attempt to trade a player like Bryant it’s for prospects but unless the Cubs turn around and flip them that doesn’t do 2020 any favors. I thought they’d shed the payroll early and use it in free agency to fill out their roster but there’s not really anything left on the market to seriously fill holes. Not hating I personally think the Cubs could stand pat and come out on top of Cards and Brewers but that’s just not what I thought would happen after hearing Theos comments after 2019. I’m a realist and honestly I’m shocked to see the Cubs in this spot. I liked their roster and farm so much by 2016 I didn’t think the Cardinals would win the division for quite a few years. But like I said they still have a good roster the Cardinals and Brewers also did a whole lot of nothing and if the Cardinals didn’t take four of four from them late in the season at Wrigley I think things would have ended a lot differently

Exactly how is he supposed to do a major league signing with the roster full? Have to dump somebody off it by releasing or trading to clear a space.

Not a fan of doing pretty much nothing this offseason but at least he’s putting together some depth in the meantime.

“Let’s invite 100 players to camp and one will make us look like geniuses!” Although, the 2016 team had a bunch of terrible players that I don’t even remember now that I’m looking at that list. I know Cub fans are not typically optimistic (myself included), but it’s entirely possible that they have a better record this year if they stay healthy and have solid years from a couple key players that were inconsistent last year. I think they could easily hit 90 wins and be in a pennant race. Not necessarily likely, but not out of the question.

Better then 56 million for Darvish and Heyward. I know Darvish looked good his last 10 starts. So for 56 million the cubs have gotten 10 quality starts and a speech. Give a scrub player 2 years and they would definitely be able to manage 10 good starts and a speech for 1 million. At least he’s getting nothing for cheap
