Dusty is a good manager. People like to repeat tired takes on Dusty’s career, cliches, but the man has presence, knows how to unite a locker room, and has considerable experience as a manager. Astros made a strong choice.

I really hope this isn’t the beginning of an MLBTR trend to post more videos instead of articles. I much prefer written articles.

Fortunately, it’s not an either/or proposition. Our regular coverage will be the same, with increased original work as well. Since Connor became a full-time member of the team, we have been working hard to produce more and better content of all kinds.

Thanks for occasionally writing “below the line” Jeff. It is appreciated by all and makes your site differ, and thus better than many others. I also realise there are occasions when you must think oh “SBJ&TO” (sweet baby Jesus & the orphans) but genuinely two way feedback is a good thing.

Agreed. Videos are difficult to view unless I happen to have my headphones handy. I will skip articles otherwise.

I don’t understand the hiring of baker they seem to be one of the biggest analytic front offices in the game. I get that lunhow is gone but I doubt they’d hire a gm who isn’t a analytical person because they have invested so much into their scouting developing

Good for Dusty and the Stros. Strong clubhouse presence and will be able to help pacify the media. Players are going to need all the help they can get this season as Im sure opposing fans and media will be ruthless

Ask yourself this question. Would the Astros hire Johnnie if not for a scandal? I don’t think so. Has he shown the ability to win in October? No. 23-32 is a bad postseason record. If you flip it, is very good but he would have had to lead his teams to nine more wins. I remember 2017 with the Nationals. where they were ahead 1-0 in game 3 against the Cubs. It was the seventh inning. The recipe for success was the starter for six and then Kintzler, Madson and Doolittle each pitching one inning. Mad Max was mowing them down but the recipe was take him out after six. He gave up a one out double to Zobrist in the seventh and came out. But not one of the three mentioned above came in. Sammy Solis, a terrible pitcher, came in. He faced two batters, gave up two hits. and the game was tied. The Nationals lost this game 2-1. Johnnie brought in the same terrible pitcher in game five. He gave up two more hits and a run but but at least he got an out this time. They lost that one 9-8 and their season was over. That was the last game Johnnie managed. Johnnie just makes the stupidest moves. in October. There is so little room for error in October to begin with and now the Astros have a dummy in October. That puts a lot of pressure on them.
