Cardinals Have “Multiple” New Positive COVID-19 Tests

By George Miller | August 2, 2020 at 2:57pm CDT

The St. Louis Cardinals have “multiple” new positive tests for COVID-19, according to a report from MLB insider Robert Murray. The exact number of positive tests isn’t yet known.

The news marks the third consecutive day the Cardinals have discovered more than one new positive test result, with the team discovering as many as five new cases among players and staffers yesterday. Those results were accompanied by a number of inconclusive tests, so it’s possible that positive tests today shed light on those unclear results. Because of the outbreak within the Cardinals organization, this weekend’s series with the Brewers was postponed.

The Cardinals’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday in Detroit, though that arrangement seems to be in jeopardy in light of the burgeoning virus among the Cardinals.

The Cardinals appear to have found themselves in a situation not too dissimilar from that of the Marlins, who saw a few positive cases snowball into a much larger, more dire situation within several days. Miami’s club, set to resume play on Tuesday, was out of action for more than a week following the discovery of the initial cases, so if the Cardinals’ situation continues to balloon, the upcoming week of games might go by the wayside.

The casino is the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater in St. Louis that a few guys went to for an outdoor concert over two and a half weeks ago and were required to wear masks and socially distance. Highly doubt this is the reason.

Two and a half weeks ago? Do you know the incubation period of this virus? Does it seem likely? My opinion is that this “casino” rumor isn’t the cause for the outbreak. Can I not have that opinion? Like it’s your opinion that this “casino” visit IS the cause? You some sort of keyboard warrior? Lol.

It wasn’t just Hollywood casino. Some where at Carlyle lake, some were at West County Mall, some were at Schnucks in Ladue. The point is, they are NOT taking this seriously or they don’t care. Between these inconsiderate clowns and the Marlins, the season is in serious jeopardy.

Where is the proof for this? Also, MO said in a Zoom call that they are allowed to leave their hotels and homes as long as it is not in a crowded building. They’re allowed to go outside and socially distanced. They went golfing in Milwaukee. That was confirmed. Cite the source you’re referring to.

Neither Goold nor the Post-Dispatch have reported that it was players attending a casino.

Jerry Hairston Jr., a former MLB player, claimed that the Cardinals went to a casino, but his tweet only said that he “heard” that a few players went to one. I think there was a fan who posted claiming that they did and had pictures, but he’s never produced them. Blogs and social media picked up on that and ran with it. But no actual report confirming that it happened.

It’s an unconfirmed rumor spread by Twitter.

Actually, my son plays professionally. They are NOT allowed to go out when they are not playing. I guess the teams that really give a rip are the ones that are taking things seriously. The Cardinals…for whatever reason, thought it was ok to go shopping, or to an “outdoor” concert (how can you possibly social distance or wear a mask at an outdoor venue?) or to casinos. And then they were careless enough to bring the virus back into their clubhouse. The season will be fine. Marlins are getting ready to play again. As long as there are idiots, there will always be positive cases.

False postives for viral tests are extremely rare, and are typically caused by contamination of the test. That’s why if there’s a positive, it’s usually confirmed with another test to make sure. Antibody tests, however, had severe false postive issues. Because of that, the antibody tests are no longer used to confirm whether or not somebody has the virus (which they were never supposed to be used in the first place).

I cannot believe the amount of people that are advocating for teams with virus outbreaks having to forfeit games. It’s a virus, you can’t sense it in any way whatsoever and cannot prevent it from infecting you in any way as soon as it gets inside you. It is IMPOSSIBLE to know where a virus infection comes from. Every team is doing things every single day that allow the possibility of infection, especially when they travel or leave their hotel room for any reason whatsoever. You could follow every single protocol and rule to a tee and still expose yourself to the virus ten times over in a single day and have zero knowledge of it.

How in the world does that warrant punishment for a team via forfeits? A grand total of zero people on this earth know how and where the Marlins or the Cardinals initially picked up the virus, and all this speculating is just that: speculation.

The decision that needs to have the most critical comments made about it is for MLB and the money grab type of season they were trying for here. The players well being was never their main concern or even a secondary concern of there’s. They wanted to get the small amount of season that they could in before something inevitable like this happened then they could go ahead and blame these young players for being at fault. Most of these kids are in their early to mid 20s and some don’t even speak a lick of English! Did you really expect them to follow a strict protocol you laid out for them and expect this 60 game sprint of a season to go off without a hitch? If so they were REALLY kidding themselves and have no one to blame but the mirror they look at every morning!

Other than contact tracing there’s no value in debating where some of the Cards went.
Likewise, MLB should not be compared to the NBA or the NHL. It should be compared to the KBO. They had over a month to learn the protocols by which the KBO was operating before they started up again. It was S Korea that stated when it comes to COVID19, adequate ventilation in closed spaces requires a new standard much higher than what’s considered normal. All America seemed to learn from that was “it’s important to wear a mask when confronting other humans.”
I’m not aware of any politicians calling for stricter building codes & operating practices for such risky places.

The nation owes a debt to the athletes that resumed their training for Fall sports. We know a lot more about COVID19 as a result. Some of that knowledge is re-defining procedures & stress tests designed to detect live-threatening problems without the presence of COVID19. For the vast majority of people, a SARS-V2 infection poses less threat than influenza. For the rest there is little certainty.
What these athletes have provided are outlier cases that likely would’ve gone undetected.
For some, COVID19 has brought problems to the surface that team doctors were unware of. COVID19, has proven to be the ultimate stress test for a group of people that were thought to be in peak physcial shape.

SARS-V2 is a lot more difficult than SARS 2003.
Many of the people infected then still show a good supply of antibodies today.
You can safely say once infected grants you immunity.
In July, we learned that antibodies vs SARS-V2 will peak in week 5, & drop too low by week 12. It’s a near certainty now that immunity vs SARS-V2 is shorter than influenza.
If a SARS-V2 vaccine proves to be as effective as the influenza vaccine, people will need 2 or 3 shots a year to maintain immunity.
That’s not manageable so it needs to be more effective & that makes it much more difficult.

Americans need to stop thinking they can just stay home until a vaccine arrives.
They need to stop thinking the government can keep spending trillions to support them.
They need to start thinking about what can be done to go back to work & school with less risk.
Don’t just wear a mask. Spray it with a disinfectant that contains active bleach ingredients.
Don’t just rely on your current work or school ventilation system.
Daily soak sponges in bleach & tape them inside the air duct.
If you can afford it use directional fans to push the air flow to the ground quickly.
Consider bleached sponges on those fans as well.

Enough bleach will kill the virus on contact, but even a little bleach will disrupt the virus’ RNA. That disruption can put an end to high viral load infections in the room.
Some people are allergic to ingredients in bleach & lysol. They should stay home indefinitely.
Studies estimate 10 infected for every positive test. America could have 50M infected by year’s end. America needs to learn to live, work, & play with COVID19 around.

I don’t believe MLB players are showering with masks on. These bleaching protocols need to be enforced in any close space where there is frequent human activity.

THis the key part of what Chisox juan said that is the game changer.

“It was S Korea that stated when it comes to COVID19, adequate ventilation in closed spaces requires a new standard much higher than what’s considered normal.”

Air filtration systems that completely sanitize the air as it curculates. HEPA doesn’t cut it.
