The Mets announced to reporters, including Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, a series of roster moves prior to today’s game. Recent trade acquisitions Darin Ruf and right-hander Mychal Givens have been activated, while righty Trevor May has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list. To make room for those three on the roster, righties Yoan Lopez and Stephen Nogosek were optioned while infielder Kramer Robertson was designated for assignment.
Robertson, 27, has had his name attached to many transactions this year. He began the year in the Cardinals organization, getting selected to the big league club in May. He made his major league debut with the Redbirds, getting into two games but making just one plate appearance (RBI groundout). He was optioned back to the minors and then designated for assignment in June. He was then claimed off waivers by the Braves and the Mets in fairly quick succession. Both teams kept him in Triple-A for the most part, with the Mets calling him up yesterday but designating him for assignment without getting him into a game.
Between the organizations of the Cardinals, Braves and Mets, he’s gotten into 73 Triple-A games this year and has hit .241/.400/.362. He doesn’t have much power but has walked at an incredible 17.5% rate this year and enough defensive versatility to play second base, third base and shortstop. He’s already been claimed a couple of times this year and could be again, especially with many teams having just opened roster spots with trades in recent days. He will likely land on the waiver wire in the days to come.
As for May, 32, he’s been out of action for months due to a stress reaction in the humerus of his throwing arm. He started off the season in miserable form, likely due to his arm issues, logging an 8.64 ERA in 8 1/3 innings. Landing on the IL in early May, the prognosis was that he would be sidelined 8-12 weeks, with the hurler now returning at the longer end of that window. He’s in the second year of a two-year, $15.5MM contract with the Mets. He will look to get back on track before returning to free agency, as well as helping the Mets with the stretch run. The club is currently atop the NL East with a 2 1/2 game lead over the Braves.

Did Kramer ever decide whether or not he likes baths?

More of a shower guy now that he got the Clarkman installed and is able to prepare his meals in there.
Captain Judge99
@CalcetinesBlancos- Lol! I think Kramer was definitely a shower guy. Didn’t he shower with his food and vegetables a few times? Smh

In one episode he admonishes baths, and then in another he sings their praises.

Exciting to see the Mets regaining some depth. Degrom, Ruff, Givens and May this week plus Vogelbach and Naquin. McCann back soon. MeGill and Peterson to the bullpen. Vientos and Alvarez waiting in the wings. Braves series and the rest of the season is gonna be a blast – may the best team win the division.
Dallas Mets
I truly believe Eppler did a horrible job at the trading deadline. He didn’t address in acquiring a lefty reliever {Chafin} or a righty reliever {Robertson} or catcher like {Vazquez} ? Instead he got Givens, who is a shade better then Drew Smith and Ruff who strikes out a ton and is 36 yrs old ? for JD Davies and 3 prospects??? I want to know what Epps is smoking or is he letting Brodie Van Wagenen is buddy make trades again.??
rct
Eppler did a fine job at the deadline. A lefty reliever would have been nice, but he did not overpay and trade away any top prospects.
Givens is more than a ‘shade’ better than Drew Smith and he has a longer track record.
DH was upgraded (Vogelbach over Dom Smith, Ruf over JD Davis), OF depth (Naquin over Jankowski), added Givens. deGrom, May, Megill coming back. Alvarez and Vientos still available to be called up if needed.
‘Horrible’ is a huge overreaction.

I believe Chafin signaled he would stay in Detroit and pick up his option to remain closer to his family in Ohio. If he was traded out of the area, except Cleveland I assume, he was going to refuse his option and be a pure rental.
LFGMets (Metsin7)
I completely agree with you @Dallas Mets, everyone here saying that Eppler did a fine job is delusional. You look at all the top teams like the Yankees, Astros, Mariners, Braves, Cardinals, Padres, even the Phillies made big moves. The Mets are going to regret not getting JD Martinez and Chafin + Fulmer at the deadline

First Eppler is a consolation GM. He wasn’t on their list for a GM but no one else wanted him. Based on his history with LA bar is set very low. But after this deadline he has proven that he is absolutely worthless. Guess what, we don’t have a farm. We have one catching prospect. What were you hugging that you wouldn’t make the much needed acquisitions you line up or pen? This could be the one year we have degrom and scherzer down the stretch and you don’t decide to make any serious acquisitions while every other contender bulked up? To save Vientos? Mauricio? Seriously? It was so ironic to see the pen immediately blow degroms start as soon as he came out (just like scherzer’s last start. Yet for some reason the Mets can’t get through their heads and find a way so degrom and scherzer’s starts don’t go to waste. Good thing door will hit eppler in his ass when we fail down the stretch/playoff run.

This isn’t really worth responding to, but “we don’t have a farm.”
Fangraphs has us with 5 in the top 100 and the #1.
So… uh… what?
bryan c
Correct. This Farm will be top 10 when the off-season rankings come out. Especially since it appears none of the top end guys will graduate this year. Alvarez is starting to turn it on at AAA, Baty is hitting over .300 with an OPS over 900 and Mauricio and Vientos will both finish with at least 25 bombs. Allen back next year plus Parada, Jett and Tidwell. Ziegler, Hamel and Butto all potential back end or mid rotation guys as well. This is the strongest farm I have seen in some time for the Mets

Joe Smith from the Twins just got DFA’d. That’s a veteran, postseason experienced arm that could add depth to the bullpen.

But not really to the bullpen of a contender. His better days are behind him

Tho I’m disappointed they didn’t get a LHRP, think they did ok. Just ok. There’s a lot of FOMO on deadline day. It’s understandable. I was bummed for a while too cuz you think we can import a star. It’s not always practical

Alton Benes for manager. Now that’d be some serious old school craziness.

Wish the Tigers would put in more waiver claims. Like I know this is a Mets post, but seriously, who have the tigers even claimed? Howard? Law? Spitzbarth? Or was that a signing? Who knows. Kramer seems like perfect depth, walks a lot, can play 3 infield positions, presumably has options left. Seems like a no brainer for these feeder teams. Hell, forget the tigers, why in gods name don’t the Pirates claim him and DFA Van Meter, I swear that guy has pictures of Nutting in the shower or something it’s asinine.
Great organizational depth, could dfa Short or Schoop, and use him.
I mean Al is brain dead so he doesn’t do any of this, but a man can dream.
