Six Players Elect Free Agency

By Darragh McDonald | October 22, 2024 at 9:33pm CDT

As the offseason nears, a number of players elect minor league free agency each week. These players are separate from six-year MLB free agents, who’ll reach the open market five days after the conclusion of the World Series. Eligible minor leaguers can begin electing free agency as soon as the regular season wraps up. These players were all outrighted off a team’s 40-man roster during the year and have the requisite service time and/or multiple career outrights necessary to reach free agency since they weren’t added back to teams’ rosters.

Electing free agency is the anticipated outcome for these players. There’ll surely be more to test the market in the coming weeks. We’ll offer periodic updates at MLBTR. These transactions are all reflected on the MiLB.com or MLB.com logs.

Pablo Reyes is an interesting guy I hope some teams take a look at.

Dude looks like he’d have an eclectic hobby or two. A little off beat, but not in a sinister way.

Just like, a normal dude but maybe really into collecting unopened tech deck products. Probably looks down on Funko Pop collectors. I could be wrong, but I just get a feeling about this guy and I hope the buccos take a closer look at him and see if we can make a trade to get our hands on some of those tech decks. It would be a bold-onene move.

As a Sox fan who saw him play often, you can find better with your eyes closed by simply pointing.

Reyes is a known cheater and even cheating didn’t help his pathetic play.

While it is an amazing accomplishment for anyone to make the show, this is still a sorry lot, none with more than 0.1 WAR in 2024 and several well in the negative.

    No one will sign carrasco

Congrats on your career though personally I’d retire on my own terms instead of trying to pitch in AAA

Don’t know how he was never an all star during the five years of 2014 to 2018.

Wish him health and to be a survivor for a long, long time.

But, no, I don’t think he’s going to help any team that needs starting pitching.

That’s what we thought about Matt Harvey and the Orioles kept signing him.

He was so good 2014-2018. Under-appreciated run for him there.

Oof, some of their numbers desperately need to be hidden or blurred behind a “graphic warning” heads up.

I was not properly prepared to view them.

I wonder what people said about JD Martinez when he was DFA’d by Houston, passed thru waivers, with no team interested in him. Then he signed a minor league deal with the Tigers and became an all star. Ya never know.

Not a good analogy. JDM was 25/26 and had played in parts of only three seasons when Houston cut him. Reyes is 30+ and been shuttling to and from the majors for six seasons now. Alvarez and Hudson are even older. And all of them had worse numbers than JDM, most of them significantly worse. You might have a case with Florial, who is about to turn 27.

I believe estevan has the highest upside out of the group, I hope he can find success with a different team.

Higher upside than winning two gold medals in two different sports in each a summer and Winter Olympics?

I figured Beede would be a solid rotation piece coming out of Vandy.
