Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman became the third hitter to reach 30 home runs this year, going deep three times against the Reds on Sunday. He’s just one off his career high (31 in 2025).
1. Contreras walks off the Marlins
Milwaukee had done virtually nothing against Eury Perez and company entering the ninth inning yesterday. Marlins closer Pete Fairbanks came in to shut the door with a 1-0 lead, but immediately found himself in trouble. After a leadoff single followed by a walk, Fairbanks struck out Andrew Vaughn. He then left a cutter over the plate that William Contreras drilled for a game-winning home run. Fairbanks has now been scored upon in six of his last nine outings. The blown save marked the sixth straight loss for Miami. The Marlins are now in a three-way tie for the final NL Wild Card spot.
2. D-Backs erase seven-run deficit
Speaking of that final Wild Card spot, the Diamondbacks are now just a 1/2 game back of the Cardinals, Marlins, and Pirates. Arizona was down 7-0 midway through Sunday’s matchup against St. Louis. The club slowly chipped away at the margin, with some help from the Cardinals, who walked in two runs in the sixth inning and allowed an inside-the-park home run in the seventh inning. Nolan Arenado‘s two-run shot tied the score in the eighth inning. Max Kepler walked it off for the Diamondbacks in extras. Arizona has now won six of seven. The series win over St. Louis puts them right in the mix for the final playoff spot.
3. Blanco set to return
The Astros are expected to activate right-hander Ronel Blanco for Monday’s matchup against the Marlins. He’s been on the 60-day IL while recovering from elbow surgery. Houston has openings on the 40-man roster, so no move will be needed there. The club will have to bump someone from the big-league squad to clear a spot for Blanco. Kai-Wei Teng tossed 46 pitches in long relief yesterday, so he could be a candidate to head back to the minors. Blanco put together a strong 2024 campaign in his first year as a full-time starter with the club. He delivered a 2.80 ERA over a career-high 167 1/3 innings. The righty no-hit the Blue Jays in April of that year. He went down with the elbow injury after nine starts last season.

Fairbanks has been horrible for Miami. They’d probably have a better record if Pete could hold down a lead.
Yes! His ERA is much higher than his saves /blown saves.
They’ve become a much better run organization recently. Not sure why they wanted to give Fairbanks closer money when they already had other guys in the bullpen similar to him.
Astros sent Bryan King down, finally. He’s not been able to handle high leverage all season. And frankly Teng should have been in that role as the only Astros reliable reliever in April, but our dumb GM made awful bets on starting pitching and so he got drafted into the rotation for a time.

I doubt that it matters, but they originally called it a single and 3-base error, then changed it to inside-the-park home run after review.
Time for the Fish to go get Weaver and make him the closer! This team has a legit wild card shot and Pete has been imploding all year! Get it done, Gabe!
At what price ? He, Weaver is signed for the next year. I am willing to do that to get him as long as a get Benge, or Ewing, and a lefty reliever, I will give back Mildreht, Hicks.

Per a league source Austin Voth and Bruce Zimmerman have both been signed by teams in the KBO.
Every time the Dbacks win a big series against a competitor, they screw it up by losing to some low middling team and are back under .500 again.
I just want to know if they’re going to go out and get some reinforcements for once. Soderstrom + Joe Ryan would do wonders for this team.
its all well and good, my question is what assets do you offer in return, what do the DBacks have that someone else might want? The strength of the farm system seems to indicate that they have some serious depth in the middle infield at the mid and upper levels, is that a need for Minnesota?
Despite constant bashing, this year’s bullpen looks halfway decent (in that they blow up every once in a while like every other team’s does) and the injury list implies that some help may be coming in August if Lawler and Sirotka come off it as planned, but how this team is in contention is an absolute mystery with as many guys that were supposed to be fulfilling key roles having just a tad less than ordinary seasons (Carroll, Marte, Perdomo).
I’ve no idea on what they’ll do at the trade deadline and part of that is tied to what would anyone covet from the farm system for MLB level WAR talent.
Most MLB trades include mid to low level prospects so I don’t expect the Diamondbacks to trade away Waldschmidt, Cunningham or Caldwell, but I think everyone else is on the table.
Looking at Hazen’s past trade deadline moves and reasons for not making a major move, now he has said with as many pitchers and players they have on the IL ala Burnes, Nelson, Puk, Martinez, and Lawlar they are waiting for them to be able to play, that tells me he will not pay the going rate for Ryan, or any other top player that could really help them. He did the same thing last year he talks a good game but not willing to increase the payroll for 2026. So basically, what you see on this roster is what you’re getting to finish this season.
That would be highly unfortunate if they don’t try and get a starter to make a run this year. They’re one 1B and #2 away from really making a run. And if Burnes, Puk, JMart, Lawlar, and Soroka come back this year, the acquisitions would make them extremely deep.
A rotation of Ryan, Kelly, Soroka, ERod would be great for them in the playoffs. Move Nelson to the bullpen. Sewald, JMart, Puk, Morillo, Clarke in the bullpen. This is a playoff team that could make strides.
If they wait til next season they’ll lose Soroka and possibly a last dance reinvigorated Arenado. He could fall off a cliff again next season.
You aren’t getting Ryan or Soderstrom without giving up numerous top prosoects. Get real
I would implore you to explore what the Dbacks got for Eugenio, Merrill Kelly, and Josh Naylor in the past. These guys were at the time on par with what kind of players they’re seeking currently. Tyler Locklear is probably the most well known player they received in any one of those trades and he wasn’t even considered a top prospect by the Mariners organization.
Or just look at guys similar in value to Joe Ryan and Tyler Soderstrom. These are not Betts level or Soto level.
Everyone thinks MLB trades are equivalent to fantasy baseball for some reason. Seth Halvorsen just got traded to the Dodgers for 2 low level prospects from the dodgers organization. 2 low level prospects for a reliever who throws 100mph and has experience in the MLB?

Your examples are rentals. Joe Ryan is under team control for 2027 and Soderstrom is locked up for years. Those 2 guys will cost a ton to acquire.
Sure, but giving up your best 3 prospects isn’t always the answer. If that’s what the twins and athletics are looking for than this is all a moot point cuz I don’t think teams are giving up a Leo Devries type of player for these guys. I think the Dbacks can snag these types for less than what people are expecting.
The Diamondbacks dont have a Leo Devries type of prospect thats why it very well could take their top 3. Someone like Jordan Lawlar could make sense as a trade candidate. I dont think Soderstrom is available at all. Joe Ryan would be a good addition.
Hazen will need to overpay for a starter like Ryan, last year the Red Sox turn down Minnesota when they offered Ryan because the Twins wanted 2 top 10 prospects plus one of their young starters on the Red Sox rotation now. So, I cannot see Hazen with his history of offering low to very low prospects for top ML talent getting a Ryan. Now if he offered a Lawler, Pfaat, and a mid 20 prospect the Twins may consider the DBacks serious about a deal. Look what the Twins got in return for their closure Duran from the Phillies in last year trade deadline.
I think Lawlar could headline a deal. Pfaat might have negative trade value. The Diamondbacks dont have a very good farm system thats part of the problem. They could trade a 2b they got tons of those. Ryan will cost a ton. With Ryan and Burnes they would have a couple potential aces.
Marlins in one week from flying above the waves to sinking. Maybe going home to their huge fan base will bail them out. On a personal note, I will be leaving in 90 minutes to see the MIZZ play. 9 buck ticket behind home plate in lower upper deck. Am I lucky. Will have to gage with the Canadian smoke. They still are buyers. The East is shady ground. A Wild Card berth is 100 % possible. Just couple of moves such as sending back Marsee to AAA bring in Alderman and get someone like Minter or Brozoban from the Mets
We’re allergic to spending money so I doubt it. Sherman has somehow convinced people that we’re a small market club lol and people eat that sht right up and look in the mirror and tell themselves that while praising the Overlord Sherman for “savvy pickups.” I mean sure we’ve made a few cool moves the last couple years but having half of your active roster be rule 5 picks and reclamation projects is sad. As long as we pinch every penny we can we will never never never be an elite baseball team. Getting Minter or another great reliever is a pipe dream.
Minter is s free agent next season. Mets are not going anywhere so all they need to do is offer cash or a player to be named later.

I know he’s been a subject of “will they trade him” but doesn’t COL just need to lock up Goodman’s bat? Bounce him around the diamond like they did in 2024 and maybe give him a backup catcher workload so you still retain some of the premium position bat but minimize the injury risk.
What long-term commitments do they have that they shouldn’t pay him? He’s a former 4th round pick, he’s not yet got paid, there’s a possible lockout, why not explore something long term that has some signing bonus $? This is his age 26 season, buyout his prime age 27-32 year’s on a 6yr deal makes a lot of sense. If it’s a slight overpay gotta build around someone
