The Blue Jays designated Dana Eveland for assignment, reports MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. If he clears waivers, Eveland says that he will report to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The lefty was pitching successfully until he faced the Red Sox on May 11th. Prior to that, the 26-year-old had a 3.82 ERA in six outings. However, he has a 16.39 ERA in his last three starts.
This marks the second time that Eveland has been designated for assignment in 2010 as the A's DFA'd the hurler back in February. Prior to being acquired by Toronto, the Diamondbacks and Mariners were reportedly interested in his services.
Feel bad for the guy but he was BRUTAL his last 5 starts. With Zep and Litsch coming back (both getting LIT UP in AAA); this move was a no-brainer. Even Tallet had more success than Eveland. Bring on the Drabek, Alvarez, Stewart, Jenkins era.
Extra tidbit from Bastian:
“If he clears waivers, Eveland said he is fine with going to Triple-A Las Vegas. Called the Jays the best organization he’s been with.”
We’ll always have April 2010, Dana.
I sure hope he clears waivers… Id like to see him develop into a good pitcher – and I’m sure that he can become that in Vegas.
Good Luck Dana
Be interesting to see who gets called up – Zep and Litsch have been down right awful in their rehab assignments.
Brad Mills… ?
actually, Litsch didn’t get “lit up” in Vegas, he pitched well for six innings and gave out in the seventh – likely a case of being left in too long. Zep, however, is still showing a ton of rust (albeit in only two starts yet).
I’m hoping they bring Tristan Magnusen up for a look.
David Purcey will get the call-up to work in the bullpen. twitter.com/sportsnetbarry
Word is Purcey has been recalled
According to the twitter of Barry Davis of Rogers Sportsnet, David Purcey has been recalled from Las Vegas to fill in for the departed Mr. Eveland until Brian Tallet is ready to go.
I hope AZ claims him.
He started the season with such promise. I hope he clears waivers and goes to AAA where he can hopefully put it together.
