Mr. LA Sports Fan
What’s left on Cook’s deal?
Infield Fly
Some portion of his 9M for this year, 9.25M for next season, and 11M mutual option/$0.5M buyout got 2012. My guess? You don’t want him.
mkorpal
Goes up to 10.25 next year if he is traded.

3 way deal. Cook and Hawpe to White Sox, Berkman to Rockies, prospects to Astros.

Why don’t the Rox just hold on to Hawpe and trade Cook for salary relief. I don’t see much value in Berkman to the Rox.
Mark Townsend
There is 0 value in Berkman to the Rockies. They want a long-term solution at 1B if they can find one.
progmatinee
Well, lets same the Rockies climb within 3 games of the WC over the next week or so and Helton is still not back. There would be a lot of value for the Rockies with Berkman then.
mkorpal
Ok, they could just stick with Hawpe in that case, who is just as good, costs less, and doesn’t have a NTC.
progmatinee
Berkman is way better than Hawpe IMO and provides a righthanded power bat the Rockies lack.

Hawpe could also be a Class A Free Agent which means draft picks. I understand he’s boarder line, but that has to be in consideration. As well as “Who plays first?”
As for Cook……I think the Rockies would come off their asking price…like please take him and is salary and we’ll call it good.

The Rox could trade Hawpe to the Sox if Mark Kotsay was involved…he is a good first baseman and would seem like a player without a purpose if the Sox upgrade at DH.

I think Hawpe can void the 2011 Club option if he’s traded which I take to mean he must be paid about 11 million next season (if dealt). A team can’t do the 500k buyout. So I don’t think he’s going anywhere for that kind of money.
He’s a good player who will likely be a FA in a few months.

I wish the Rox would have done something. I would have liked it if they would have traded Cook for a bag of sunflower seeds. Guy is a tool!
