Valentine Withdraws Name From Marlins Search

By Zachary Links | October 13, 2010 at 5:26pm CDT

Bobby Valentine has once again removed his name from consideration for the Marlins managerial job, reports Tim Kurkjian of ESPN.  Back in June, Valentine seemed to be on the verge of taking over as Florida skipper before talks between the two sides broke down.

The former manager of the Rangers, Mets, and Chiba Lotte Marines said that he has been in contact with the Marlins about the job since the end of the season but decided to go in a different direction.  On Sunday, it was reported that Valentine was the leading candidate for the vacant post in Florida.  Bobby V has also interviewed in Toronto but is considered a longshot.

Valentine isn’t going to choose a place to manage until he speaks with whoever the mets gm is. Thats just my feeling.

wants some roster control. i can’t see the marlins owner and bobby v getting along at all anyway. hes fired fredi gonzalez who the braves hired immediately…and joe girardi who just won manager of the year.

He’s not going to get roster control if Sandy Alderson is the new Mets GM.

I know. We’ll see how it plays out.

He doesn’t roster control as long as Steve Phillips isn’t the GM.

Please tell me you meant “HAD just won manager of the year” because if Girardi won Manager of the Year this year, I’m going to slit my wrists (I don’t think it’s announced until November anyway, but who can keep track?).

He won it at the time of his firing – sorry if I wasn’t more clear.

Not a problem. I knew he’d won it then, I was just questioning whether or not he’d won it again this year, which I was pretty sure wasn’t announced yet anyways.

When Valentine finally accepts a job, he should bring John Heyman along as his bench coach.

Jack Z would definetly let him have roster control.

      Bye bye Jose Lopez

Guess I’m still waiting to hear why he’s considered a longshot in TO. It’s not that I don’t believe you, I’ve just not read that from any source yet.

Of course he did. He won’t get to see himself talk on TV as much if he’s not an ESPN analyst.

PLEASE hire Edwin! or at the very least keep him around as bench coach, nobody knows these young guys like he does (Gaby, Megatron, LoMo, etc)
