iPhone App Users: Feedback Requested

By Tim Dierkes | January 16, 2012 at 3:23pm CDT

The second version of our Baseball Trade Rumors iPhone app came out recently, with plenty of upgrades.  In the name of constant improvement, we're already looking into what should be done for version 3.  The app's commenting feature needs a tune-up, and we're also looking into developing a similar app specifically for the iPad.  The price of the iPhone app will remain $2.99.  Beyond that, if you have purchased our iPhone app, what would you like to see added or changed?  Please click here to take the simple one-question survey.

I love the iPhone app, but I hate the way the comments are done.

Maybe I am doing something wrong… but i have it set to just receive Angels alerts… but I dont get anything… I go onto the website and see an angels post but i never got the alert on my phone

As for the app itself…I could be wrong since my alerts havent been working…but it should be set up to send an alert whenever the angels are tagged in the post as a categorie… and not just as a title such as “Angel Notes” or ” Angels sign ___”

It does function off the assigned categories.  You have chosen them for alerts, you’re not just filtering the news page to the Angels stories, correct?

Correct.  Under teams tab i have Los angeles angels selected.  Then under settings I have AL, NL, all trans all selected to off (which is where im not sure if i should have them off or on)

I think that overrides, so try with at least AL and NL on.

Tim.  I noticed your downloads initially skyrocketed and now shot down the last few days.  It’s a good app.  Have you thought about having a permanent advertisement on the top of the mlbtraderumors page to access the Android version since it is a different name than your website?  Maybe in the form of a scannable QC code so Android customers can get it even easier?  I just thought you may want to add a link so that people like TXHC can buy rather than wonder.  As for the app itself, to drive in more business, you may want to create an interactive tutorial for it.

I thought about buying it, but didn’t. I wasn’t sure what the difference is between going on the site on my phone and using the app. Is there any way to demo it? Or could someone give me an HONEST opinion on it before I spend my money?

Maybe I’m beating a dead horse here, but why does this app cost anything? Do the bandwidth sucking ads on the site not generate enough revenue? I am counting seven ads right now, including the iPhone one. Seems excessive. Is the iPhone app ad free?

Seriously?!  Why would I pay for an Iphone app when I can just grab my handy dandy Iphone, open up safari and come to this website.  People who actually buy this app, come on really?!  Complete waste of money when all of the information in the app is readily available over a basic yahoo or google search or even this website.  Paying anything for this app = FAIL!

Cereal for breakfast. A small sandwhich, a water, and a pudding for lunch. Ravioli for dinner. Nine dollars a day. Maybe go out every once in a while for pizza or something.

That’s not true.  Sometimes there are leftovers (not to be confused with sloppy seconds).  Other times when you are desperate enough, you can recycle your food. Same S$@T, different day.  Do you know how much Ramon Noodles you can purchase for $3?!?!?!?!

No way man..There are a million things you could spend that $3 on that are more useful to you than this app.  My point is, why pay $3 for an app when you get all of the information for free.  Yeah, its just $3..but like dude said..for some of us thats a meal..and some of us just don’t have the luxury of spending more than that on a meal.

lol. That is like the occupy protestors who complain about being in the 99% and life is not fair yet pay $100 for cell service. The app works fine minus the comments. It is faster than going onto safari and we all pay for convenience in our lives. I have no problem paying $3 for an app that I understand cost money to create and love the push notification of. The push feature is worth the$3 alone IMOP. If you can’t afford $3, why did you spend money on an iPhone when you can obviously use it elsewhere in your life? A regular free phone works just fine, right?

Honest question but since people are saying comments are kinda broken…whats the advantage of the app over a simple RSS feed reader (which there are hundreds of great ones on the iPhone)?

Tim maybe offer a “lite” version of the app thats add supported? Honestly I upgrade to more add supported apps to the full version than I do on just “taking a chance” at an app. This comes from someone who works on mobile sites and apps for a living 🙂

    Some ideas i got,
    1. bring out MORE updates instead of one every year
    2. Fix the bugs with post being repeated 1000 times
    3. the posted note look for the comment section doesn’t fit the theme
    4. we want to use our disqus accounts
    5. comment options for seeing the newest comments first
