Reverse Standings

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | July 23, 2012 at 7:58am CDT

It was just last month that the Astros selected Carlos Correa with the first overall pick in the amateur draft, and Houston's already on track for another top draft choice. The Astros have the worst record in baseball, which means they're favored to select first in the 2013 draft. The Cubs aren't far behind their division rivals and the Rockies are also in the mix for the top pick in '13.

MLBTR's Reverse Standings page offers a simple way of following the action, as teams vie for the for the best draft picks in June of 2013 by losing the most games in 2012. The standings will be updated every morning through the end of the season, and even calculate tiebreakers by looking at last year's standings. You will always be able to find the link under MLBTR Features in the right sidebar.

Just a note on the reverse standings. It says that the teams with the first 15 picks are protected, I think that was changed to the first 10 in the new CBA.

also shouldn’t be called “draft order” without slotting the pirates #9 comp pick in.

Wow, the Red Sox are currently in line for a protected first pick. I don’t even.

1983 Red Sox like season finish possibly on the horizon (below .500) with a manager like that team had (Ralph Houk) who was no nonsense and a winner as well in the past.

This team currently will win 5 out of 7 or so, then lose close to the same. Not a top tier team

That’s the worst part about this year’s club. We aren’t being consistently mediocre; the team will get our hopes up with a nice little 5-2 run against contenders and then get swept by the Blue Jays to end up back at .500

Wrong – only 10 picks protected under new CBA

I believe that the Pirates get the number 9 pick, no matter what.

Does anyone know what next years draft is looking like, in talent wise?

Worse than this years, and a distant memory of the 10 and 11 classes.

Any standouts like Harper or Strasburg?

Nope. Appel might go number one, especially since he will likely have to sign for well below slot since all his leverage is now gone.

There are a couple of interesting high school position players that could really raise their stocks as number one’s. But nobody like a Harper, Griffey, a-rod, chipper standout. Probably going to look a lot like this years draft but even more high school heavy.
