Blue Jays Designate Chad Beck For Assignment

By Ben Nicholson-Smith | October 22, 2012 at 2:23pm CDT

The Blue Jays announced that they've designated right-hander Chad Beck for assignment. The move creates 40-man roster space for Bobby Wilson, who has been claimed off of waivers from the Angels.

Beck joined the Blue Jays organization in 2008 when Toronto acquired him from Arizona for David Eckstein. The 27-year-old appeared in 14 games for the Blue Jays this year after spending most of the season at Triple-A. Beck posted a 1.31 ERA with 4.5 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9 in 48 innings at Las Vegas in 2012.

Revolving door of 40 man roster moves will be ongoing at a blistering pace for a bit..

Am kind of looking forward to the Rule 5 draft myself and who will be left unprotected. Am sure some fans are worried about some prospects that could be left exposed.

I’ve been hoping that for a while now. Local kid who has been putting up great numbers, plus we need all the help we can get!

Great numbers? Only to an Astros fan perhaps 🙂 He had a very low ERA in AAA this year, but he still has a career 4.33 ERA in the minor leagues, can’t strike anybody out, and got knocked around in the majors this year.

So he got knocked around in several games this year, which were already blowouts vs hot teams and the offenses looked great against every pitcher those games. He pitched good in the few close games they let him into… if you watched them instead of just look at end of year stats. His declining strikeout #’s are a concern but he seems to be learning to pitch instead of just blow the ball past people as he did all the way back through college. Plus his minor league #’s are all pretty good if you take out the games he has started, which have inflated the 4.33 ERA by a good run or more I’d bet. And yeah I’m pulling for him to do good and I don’t know if you have seen the ‘Stros pin this year but I’m all for taking a chance on a young guy who just posted a 1.31 ERA in AAA this year! What can it hurt lol
