Depth signing for AAA does Herrera get moved up?
Joanie Yan
Hopefully – because they are already deep at 2B.
Rays_Fan_Engima
I like Conrad and I’m glad he’s with a team again. It’s a shame that all he will be is depth. Hopefully he will get a shot eventually and stay up there

Murphy’s days are numbered.
Rob Lucci
Thank goodness.
calamityfrancis
given his awful defense, would he make sense as a bench player? not sure how much interest other teams would have in him given he makes decent money. would he but cut?
RevTM
They wont cut him (cutting players in the major leagues makes little sense unless they are truly abysmal). They will continue to try and trade murphy, hoping he hits one of his hot streaks that always boost his season numbers before he goes cold again. and now they have depth when they promote dilson

Murphy’s not going anywhere any time soon. He’s hit well his entire career and is currently sporting a .140 BABIP. Also, we’re 18 games in. Further, the Mets are playing well and can ride it out until Murphy regains his stroke. He’s had long slumps at times in his career and always makes it out. Calm down, peeps.

Mets setting up for some possible big moves? We’ll see
Rays_Fan_Engima
I think they’re just sending up Herrera
JordanSwingman
With the way the roster is setup now, something has to happen. Herrera isn’t coming up to sit on the bench

Welcome back to the big leagues, Dilson.
Andrew Herbst
I think this means Herrera is getting called up soon.
Matt Marcellus
Dilson getting promoted? But wouldn’t we just send Muno down to play 2b? Doesn’t make sense.
Grizzy
Dilson Herrera isn’t getting called up unless he’s starting, and I’m not sure that the Mets are ready to bench Daniel Murphy yet.
This could just be a depth signing, completely unrelated to Herrera.
On a side note, I seem to recall Conrad hitting a big homerun against the Mets when he was with the Braves, probably off of K-Rod given K-Rod’s propensity for giving up homeruns to bench guys like that.
canikickit
If someone hitting .145 with multiple blunders defensively recently isn’t enough to bench someone, what is?
David Coonce
Good memory! He hit a 2-run homer off K-Rod in June of 2011 to tie a game in the bottom of the 9th with 1 out. The Braves went on to win in the bottom of the 10th on a walkoff…balk! I wonder if they did the jumping around celebration for such an anticlimactic ending?
James Fogarty
Call up Herrera, play him everyday at 2b, make Murphy a Super Utility. Play him at 2nd, 1st, 3rd and maaaaybe the corner OF spots. Perfect situation for everyone, and if Murph’s free agent value is hurt by it, even better. Mets could bring him back for cheap, or just let him walk and move on.
Rays_Fan_Engima
I’m happy we still have Dykstra
Melvin Mendoza, Jr.
Oh man, I still have nightmares about Brooks Conrad from the 2010 NLDS.
Cheese Sandwich
They will let Murphy ride out this slump. Even if there were a plan to promote Herrera, nothing would happen for a few more weeks—when the Mets gain control of Herrera for another year and David Wright is back from the DL. At that point, you could consider auditioning Herrera at 2B and using Murphy as a (very well paid) utility infielder. So, Wright and Herrera take the spots currently held by Campbell and Muno. But again, I think a promotion is unlikely. Conrad is depth, and a very cheap hedge in case Murphy gets traded later.
