I remember when the alleged authorities in the media claimed the Padres, Red Sox, and White Sox were the most improved teams in baseball. It was good for hot stove chatter….but a person didn’t have to go far among baseball enthusiasts to see talk about major question marks.

archaic thinking throughout mainstream media pundits—placing so much emphasis on acquisition of 30 year old+ signing or trade acquisitions as opposed to internal development of youth. White Sox, Red Sox, and Padres all made headline acquisitions of roughly 29-32 year old talent who have all had specific issues previously, other than Justin Upton. WAY too much emphasis put on relief pitcher signings, as well. Houston Astros, Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins(less-heralded acquisitions and internal development), and Royals all had internal development mixed with one or two acquisitions to supplement- you cannot build on acquisition–you build on development and supplement with acquisition.
