As a Mets fan I’d way rather bastardo then clip
greatd
Seems like the Orioles are in talk with everyone lol

Every year the Orioles are in on everybody and only end up with the cheapest players available. Since the present ownership the Orioles have been bottom feeders.

I’d love to see the Cardinals in on this guy. Would be a great fit and with all the health questions with the starting rotation they need to shorten games and take some pressure off,

Agree with that. Cards don’t have great arms this year, so they sure could use a stiff bullpen. But they really need to add a power bat to the middle of the lineup. Holliday will be injured at some point…..he got 229 AB’s last year, and he’ll be 36 in 10 days….so regression is here, and they need someone who can MASH. Davis would be nice, but Mo won’t spend on him. Cespedes is the best option, I think…….but it seems that they are chasing Gordon (3 yrs older, plays only LF, 20-23 HR’s probably)

Hard to see a part time platoon player like Pearce commanding 2 years and $14 million coming off a season when he hit .196 against LHP. Yeah he was great in 14, but he’ll be 33 this year. At best I think he’s worth one year with an option in the $5 million per year range. I also don’t think a guy like that can be too selective on where he goes. He might fit better on a rebuilding club than a contender and hope a hot first half will generate trade interest in him by a contender.

Mets probably want bastardo to go with Blevins. Gilmartin doesn’t profile as a lefty specialist. He’s probably more suited to long relief/spot start role.

Oh good heavens…NO!!!! Say it ain’t so Duquette!

It would be nice to see the Jays make at least a little splash this off season by signing both. 30M for both for three years is pretty good. Since we need bull pen help it would be nice to have solid relievers opposed to the likes of Rodney.

Orioles need to sign chris davis or move along and sign either cespedes or upton. Im tired of waiting around
kbarr888
True. They are clogging up the entire FA process (or Davis/Boras are…..not sure which it is).
But here’s the deal……..If they’re just fiddling around, and they’re NOT going to pull the trigger anyway……Just say that, and let the rest of the signings begin! Why wouldn’t they go for Gordon?….replaces the LH bat, plays a solid OF, he’ll be half of what Davis wants…..and they can sign Pearce to play 1st with Trumbo.
“Let the signings begin!”

So the Mets will wait out the market for one of the top relievers available and yet their bullpen is a glaring weakness. Yet, they couldn’t wait on a backup/platoon outfielder and needed to scoop up De Aza before any other team enticed him with an offer? Makes plenty of sense. In other words, the Mets are frugal and they will see what happens.

Forget what’s left of a diminished and still high priced FA market for relievers. Trade some chips for a closer who can turn the Mets back end into elite area, which is now the success plan in baseball. Acquire Jake McGee from the Rays for Dominic Smith (1st base prospect) and an arm like Gabriel Ynoa.or Akeel Morris. Mets get a very reasonablly priced (12-13 million in arbitration over the next two seasons) top closer/set up man to pair with Famillia to close out games. Added to what they have as 6/7th inning guys in their pen (and maybe the return of Mejia at some point), it would help keep their young rotation arms from having to go too deep into games and to keep them strong over the course of a long season.

They could try to sweeten that bullpen by trying to get boxberger from Tampa as well, and then they really have a solid bullpen with Famila/McGee/BoxB/Reed/Robles/gilmartin I think that would be perfect for them, not to mention to bolster the lineup they have Montero as a trade chip too and Zack Wheeler
JT19
Boxberger and McGee would probably cost them Smith, Ynoa, Morris and one of Montero/Wheeler plus another prospect. Pitching is a strong suit of the Rays so selling Montero/Wheeler as the headliner for both would be tough. Might be wrong but I think the Rays are seeking position player prospects mainly.
PhilliesFan012
I only said so because I figured the Rays wouldn’t want more pitching so they would dig
Into the mets system
For position players, they would
Probably stay with Nimmo but I doubt NY trades him
kbarr888
Please help me out here……I hear all this buzz about this kid Nimmo……but everything I read outside of the Mets followers is pretty lukewarm on the kid. Are they all missing something? Or is it a case of “He’s awesome because he’s in our system”…??….(everyone thinks that their own team’s prospects are awesome…..lol). Here’s the report from SBNation about him:
“Age 22, hit .269/.362/.372 between Double-A and Triple-A. Power is not developing but he gets on base. Looking more and more like a platoon/role player but that can still have value.”
Are they wrong? Is there an intangible somewhere?
PhilliesFan012
Honestly I don’t know either, his numbers don’t even suggest he’s a top ten prospect, I guess there’s something we are missing when it comes to him
staypuft
Yea, he can’t seem to figure out lefties. But on the bright side, he’s a lefty bat so he’d be on the busier side on a platoon. You’d figure through a full MLB season the lefty side of a platoon should see, what, around 400 plate appearances?
budman3 2
Rays won’t trade both Boxberger and McGee but I think McGee has more value. They would like positional players and especially a 1st baseman with some pop, down the road in maybe a year which is why I suggested Smith. Nimmo would be nice too but not quite as needed now. They are always looking to replace young arms in deals which is why I suggested Ynoa because of his command and Morris as a hard thrower who may turn into a closer type for their future.
budman3 2
I could also see the Rays adding Guyer or Jennings to give the Mets a RH’ed LF/CF’er for their depth and that would likely bring back another prospect from the Mets in the deal
PhilliesFan012
I’ve read they are listening in on Boxberger that’s why I said him, I think Te Mets could pull it off, it’s unlikely but anything could happen
