Angels Designate Daniel Nava, Craig Gentry For Assignment

By Steve Adams | July 30, 2016 at 5:12pm CDT

The Angels announced today that they’ve designated outfielders Daniel Nava and Craig Gentry for assignment. Outfielder Shane Robinson has been reinstated from the DL in a corresponding move.

The news brings to end a left field platoon that was widely panned by Angels fans this offseason, as the Halos elected to pursue bargain options with rather than incur luxury tax penalization when addressing its left field vacancy. Nava and Gentry have both spent significant time on the DL this season, and neither was overly productive at the dish. Nava batted .235/.309/.303 in 136 plate appearances while Gentry slashed .147/.237/.176 in just 39 trips to the plate.

Just a quick typo, you said the Indians designated Nava and Gentry, not the Angels.

The Angels are clearing room for the bundle the Braves are about to give them for Mike Trout

You should really give up hope on that. It won’t be happening.

He’s just buying into a stupid column in AJC where the writer fantasizes about how the Braves would look in 2018. Part of that was trading for Trout. A few Braves fans showed their lack of discernment by taking it all seriously, even that it was a bona fide rumor.

Shame about Navs. Great story of actual water boy to getting to play in a World Series.

Would be great if either Theo, Boston, or Francona gave him a job coaching in their system’s when he decides to quit.

Nope. Gentry was on the DL. Shane Robinson is replacing Nava (Lol). No mystery bat is on the way. They don’t have the prospects to get a bat anyways ha.

The Angels have been searching for someone they can put in left field since GA. And his last season was 08. It is getting frustrating

Who’d have thought thought that duo would do about as bad as Matt Joyce last season.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Tigers pick up Gentry as a replacement for Gose when rosters expand.

Two out and 1 off the dl…. Hmmm something is going down today or tomorrow… Wow and nava had a great game against his old team … Gentry Nava Robinson … Should have pulled that trigger on Bruce or Cespedes

Bruce wasn’t the player coming to the Angels in the 3-way trade, it was Michael Saunders. He’s had a good season for TOR, would have been a boost for Angels.
