Wonder who Boston offered for Beltran.
Eric D.
Hard to believe Reddick was originally traded for Andrew Bailey… I believe it was one of Cherington’s first transactions as GMs… definitely not his best.

Great setup for the Red Sox. They have a no lose situation. If Benintendi succeeds, they will pat themselves on the back for bringing him up so soon. If he flops, they can blame the Yankees for them having to bring him up too soon. Wait and see.

I’ve never seen an MLB team blame another team for making them call up a prospect. Interesting concept….
Ray Ray
Oh I didn’t necessarily mean the team, I meant the fans, I just worded it poorly. However, you could still possibly see casual passive-aggressive type comments from the GM/manager during interviews and such.
Michael Macaulay-Birks
I find it hard to believe the Yankees would have traded a meaningful piece to the Red Sox…
Ray Ray
I don’t.. It doesn’t happen often at all, but it has happened in the past. Yankees legend Elston Howard helped the Red Sox win the 1967 pennant after an early August trade from NY (although he was mostly bad for BOS). It has worked the other way too, with Mike Stanley and most recently Stephen Drew.

Don’t forget Sparky Lyle
costergaard2
It could have happened. The Yankees would have wanted a good prospect and Beltran, a FA, probably would not come back to haunt them in 2017. Both teams fear the Sparky Lyle trade, where the Sox got Yankees garbage and the Yanks got a productive player for about eight years. He won the Cy Young out of the pen in 1977 and was traded in 1979 for Dave Rigetti. Neither team wants one of their prospects to star on the other team. It’s how I felt watching Mike Lowell on the Sox…

So happy the BoSox promoted Benintendi, instead of giving up anything for a useless right fielder.
ny1996
Oh yeah, because a guy hitting .300 with 22 HR and 65 RBI is so useless.
petfoodfella
I’d love to see those useless stays in Atlanta right field. :/
Speak da Truth
I think he was talking about his feilding. Because he surely couldn’t be speaking about Beltran’s bat.
If he was he would sound really stupid if you ask me and im a Sox fan.
andropov4
I’m guessing he meant that Beltran is useless in the field, which he kind of is at this point.
ThePriceWasRight
dumbest comment of the day. congratulations
hojostache
You mean one of the most productive playoff hitters of all-time?
Yeah…that guy.
BadCo
Guys it would not suprise me to see Beltran in Boston next year as the DH… Sox obviously looking forward … For a lefty to replace Ortiz
bradthebluefish
Glad the BoSox did not give up anymore than they already have. Brad Ziegler has been a great addition and Pomeranz was worth the risk of trading away a low level prospect with high potential.
But to give up more for Hill, Beltran, and Robertson? Idk. We need to have some for the offseason too when prospects bring more bang for the buck.
bradthebluefish
2 months for a DH is doubtfully worth whatever BoSox would have given up.
Speak da Truth
I don’t think even getting Sale the Sox would’ve won it this year. They have way to many holes. .
When the pitchers have good games the bats go dead and when the offense scores a bunch of runs 8-10 times the Starting pitching gives up more than we score if not the pen does.
The Sox just don’t have that it factor this year that you see with good teams and i haven’t even mentioned the horrible manager they have in Farrell. Boy is that guy clueless. He’s responsible for atleast 10 games i counted this year that Sox loss for leaving the starter in to long or making a dumb bull pen moves. He’s pure garbage!!
BadCo
Is anyone watching how pathetic the Red Sox are playing? But I have to agree it’s been an ugly year for Ferrell, And make what ever excuse you want … We stink
BlueSkyLA
A discussion of the Dodgers’ RF options in 2017 that doesn’t even mention Andre Ethier. Nice job, Cafardo. This is why we hang on your every word.
Cam
Definitely a glaring omission. Ethier is here through ’17 at least (plus a vesting option), and there is nothing to suggest he’s not going to be ready for the start of next season.
Hopefully, just an oversight on his part.
BlueSkyLA
Cafardo really doesn’t seem to have a clue about any team outside of his time zone. He’s pretty consistent that way.
Cam
I think you nailed it.
BoldyMinnesota
I don’t believe a word cafardo says
giants51
Why would they be interested in Beltran…….
gamemusic3 2
You should warn the audience when you link to a paywall. A particularly obnoxious one that absolutely is not worth money for Cafardo’s speculations.
