I’d never been aware of that loophole that Eddy discusses. Is there a reason that teams don’t convince more amateurs to wait and sign until after the minor league season to take advantage of that? It seems that that extra year to wait until adding a player to the roster could be quite important

Easy, the market is driven by the buscones who are primarily crooked and need the $ asap. Any team that mentions waiting, will obviously loose the plyr and jeopardize the relationship

Fair enough. I didn’t think it’d be that simple though, if a team liked a player enough to be the highest bidder, on the condition that the player waits a month or two to sign, but I guess patience isn’t exactly a virtue for buscones

It benefits the team.
It is a disadvantage toi the player. As they push their free agency back one season.

That link to Badler’s article is over 3 years old. I gotta think there is a more relevant take on the situation, a lot has changed in the way of baseball academies in the dominican over the past 3 years. Not to mention the way the current system is working isn’t talked about in that article.

Whoa, not sure how I got ahold of that without noticing the date.
I don’t believe the way the current system is working needs to be included for it to be relevant. There’s plenty of discussion on that point, too.

The subject of International Draft is over 10 years old and MLB still can’t find a way to implement it, they definitely have the wrong people involved in their Int. Div.
