Dodgers Have “Expressed Interest” In Todd Frazier

By Jeff Todd | December 6, 2016 at 1:33pm CDT

The Dodgers have “expressed interest” in White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier, according to a tweet from ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick. It isn’t clear whether talks have advanced.

Los Angeles has long been said to be eyeing a reunion with free agent Justin Turner, but presumably Frazier would represent an alternative. With Chicago selling off top hurler Chris Sale for prospects, it makes more sense than ever for the organization to explore trades of other veteran assets.

That’s all the more true in the case of Frazier, who is under team control for just one more season. With a projected $13.5MM arbitration salary, he’s not cheap, but the 30-year-old continues to deliver strong overall value at the hot corner. Never great at reaching base, Frazier’s OBP has tanked since the start of 2015. But he has also driven 75 balls out of the yard over the last two campaigns. And though his metrics dipped at third last year, he typically rates well with the glove, too.

Too bad they traded Montas. Would’ve happily taken him and Trayce Thompson for him lol.

Too bad the Dodgers don’t have prospects like Peraza, Dixon, and Schebler to offer. Something like that could possible get a Frazier deal started.

If they land Frazier should look to extend him with a very poor 3B free agent class in 2017 offseason. Smarter to just sign Turner IMO.

I know the Cardinals at some point were connected to Turner however Im shocked at this point that they arnt kicking the tires on Fraizer. That would solve the Cardinal #3 hitter issue and you can keep Carpenter at 1st.

By some accounts in LA, the deal with Turner is pretty close and may just be pending other potential trades. Dodgers have a full 40-man roster, and while there are certainly candidates to be DFA’d (hi Carlos Frias!), maybe they prefer not to do that.

Calhoun and Barnes for Frazier. The dodgers don’t buy into Calhoun’s glove at 2b and at OF , he is just another bat.

Barnes is slotted in at backup C/Utility role in 2017. I doubt they move him because of his versatility. Calhoun is another bat, but he’s another good bat. AF has drafted him twice, so he sees something he likes in him.

If that’s a Kris Bryant dig, then obviously you’re trolling. If you’re a real White Sox fan, it’s difficult to keep Frazier at this point, because he’s leaving after this year, and they’ve signaled that they’re not planning on competing this year

White Sox announcer said Frazier was the best 3B in Chicago because Frazier was better defensively and hit more HR. Clearly good old Hawk has finally lost his mind.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Atlanta try to make a run for Frazier. Based on the return for Sale, I think Atlanta would be able to do it easily.

Frazier took a step back defensively last year and was barely hitting .200 for a chunk of the season. Maybe it’s a fluke, but it’s questionable as to if all those home run derbies turned him into a one trick pony. I guess if the price is okay, go for it, but I’d hate to see them give too much up. They have been resourceful thus far.

No thanks, bring back Turner, please. You trade for single year stop gaps when you have someone coming up who can fill that gap the following year. The Dodgers have no such player in their system. Frazier would be a bridge to nowhere.

You can’t sign Turner back when MLB is telling dodgers to cut payroll. Smh you have to get a cheap stop gap that can play.

Have to think this is just a bit of a gee up to get Turner’s signature sooner rather than later. Can’t see this being any serious interest – maybe a backup plan C incase Turner bolts..if anything.

Could Turner possibly play second? I only ask because isn’t that a hole for the Dodgers also? Frazier, Seager, Turner and Gonzales seems like a good infield to me.

Turner doesn’t have the lateral movement to pull off a move to 2nd. He’s GG caliber at 3rd, better to keep him there and look for something to fit at 2nd.

Trading Frazier should net the White Sox a top prospect between #50 – 100 in the mlb plus another lower level piece or two

Doesn’t have the lateral movement? lol wtf. You do realize Turner came up as a Utility infielder and has played at shortstop and second base in the majors right? It wasn’t until 2015 that he became a fulltime 3rd baseman for the dodgers smh. Btw if the dodgers could acquire Frazier for some prospects the dodgers might not be to fond of then by all means get it done. It might be the smarter way to go because they’d still be getting a pretty good draft pick if Turner signs with a team with a unprotected first round pick. Not to mention they could potentially maximize their return even more by paying a few mill off Fraziers contract and flipping him at the trade deadline for even more prospects.

You do realize that Turner has had knee surgery and related issues that have impacted his lateral movement, right? And that he’s 32?

Turner is not as mobile laterally or in general since coming up as a 2B and playing SS at the major-league level, because of those knee issues and you know, time.

The Dodgers focus will remain on Justin Turner until he signs his free agent deal. Todd Frazier would be a good backup option in case Turner inks a deal elsewhere.

The White Sox have always had an interest in troubled slugger Yasiel Puig. If the Dodgers pursue Frazier, Puig would be a possible return even with an apparent rebuild in Chicago since he does have 3 years of remaining team control. If trading Jose Abreu is in the White Sox plans then the acquisition of Puig would not be considered. If he stays, this could happen.

Dodgers using Frazier as a hedge against Turner walking away. Front office not going to bid against itself. Aside from sheer speculation that STL was interested, i haven’t heard of any other org engaging Turner this winter.

Sox are going to blow the team up and this was a good first step. Frazier will bring back a few good prospects and I would think their would be a good list of teams that want him with his power. I think last year was an anomaly, he should hit for a better average.

Turner picked a great time to have a career year. If you’re a GM, you have to wonder if last year he finally “got it” and can be counted on the next 3-4 years to produce the type of numbers he did or was it a fluke? Remember, he basically doubled his career HR total last year and his 90 RBI’s was 30 better than his previous high.
