The Yankees have acquired infielder/outfielder Cody Asche from the Royals, per a club announcement. Cash or a player to be named later will head to Kansas City in return.
Asche had joined the Royals organization on a minors deal over the offseason. He was expected to provide a depth option there but will instead do so for the New York organization after today’s swap.
The former Phillies prospect has certainly had his chances in the majors, but carries only a .234/.293/.376 batting line over 1,349 plate appearances in his career. He did hit well last year at Triple-A, though, and performed well this spring with a .269/.412/.500 slash.
More depth I guess? He’s hit well at times in the minors, but this seems a bit unnecessary, especially with the Thompson move from earlier.
Scranton’s roster is a little thin at the moment
Scranton should get Ryan Howard on the team. (The Office fans should get it)
And he should bleach his hair too!

So he’s just good at playing different positions.. He has a career -2.3 WAR.. according to that bbref link. Hopefully it’s cash. That dreaded “PTBNL” everyone thinks is worthless always comes back to haunt you Lol
David Ortiz, Coco Crisp, Gio Gonzalez, Michael Brantley were all PTBNL so you definitely got a point
It’ll be cash in this situation. The Royals don’t need to add yet another A-ball pitcher, which is what they’ll have to choose from in a deal for Cody Asche.
Sometimes the PTBNL is a way for the acquiring team to have more time in assessing players or negotiating with the other team. As listed above, Brantley was a PTBNL in the CC Sabathia trade. The Indians were given a list of players they could choose from within a given time frame. Other players on that list included Lorenzo Cain and Jonathan Lucroy. Honestly, I think the PTBNL is rarely a throwaway player nowadays.
Thats generally only in trades for a player of value.
When giving a depth type away, as is the case here, PTBNL or cash mostly means cash unless the giving club ends up with a depth hole somewhere themselves.
Domingo Santana
Included as PTBNL by the Phillies in the Hunter Pence trade with the Astros.
I don’t get it…. I thought the Yankees were deeper than other teams. Why the waiver claimns and trades?
Delays service time for real prospects?
Who? Andujar is already up.
Torres
Stock piling assets would be my guess.
When you have like 8 guys from your 40 man roster on the DL, that’s what you do. Why add people from the farm to 40 man and then have to put them on waivers once people from DL return? Use your head silly! Obviously you were attempting to bash the Yankees, but I recommend you catch up on baseball 101 if your gonna come up here with the big boys
Watch he gets more cheers than Stanton this year from drunken Yankees fans.
Right because Yankees fans are the only fans who get drunk and overreact to small sample sizes.
I have never seen Seattle fans boo a super star on their team because he had a bad day. To boo a player of Stantons stature because he struck out 5 times is ridiculous. Do they boo Sanchez because he sucks at blocking pitches in the dirt? That must be different because he came up in the org. It is crazy drunk or not there is no excuse to treat a new player that way especially this early in being there. I don’t know why anyone would want to play in front of such ungrateful fans.
Fans pay their hard earned money so they can boo or cheer whomever they choose. Stanton is making $25 mil a year, and now in NY so the expectations are higher. As for e homegrown players Betances gets booed when he can’t throw strikes, and so does Sanchez for the passed balls.
there are plenty of things you are allowed to do but are still short sighted and d*ckish
First off, why do you care. Secondly, people come to play because of the “ungrateful” fans. You know nothing of NY or it’s fan.
Do they have to give him a spot on the 40 man roster? I hope not. There’s no one I would want to see dropped for Asche.
