Mets Select Daniel Zamora, Place Bobby Wahl On DL

By Steve Adams | August 17, 2018 at 2:40pm CDT

The Mets announced Friday that they’ve selected the contract of left-hander Daniel Zamora from Double-A Binghamton and placed right-hander Bobby Wahl on the 10-day disabled list due to a strained right hamstring.

Zamora, 25, came to the Mets in the offseason swap that sent fellow left-hander Josh Smoker to the Pirates. Thus far, he’s enjoyed a strong season in Binghamton — albeit against younger competition. Through 51 2/3 innings of work, Zamora has notched a 3.48 ERA with impressive marks of 12.0 K/9, 2.8 BB/9 and 0.52 HR/9 to go along with a 45.2 percent ground-ball rate. He’s allowed a .244/.320/.384 slash to left-handed opponents but held right-handers to a terrible .157/.211/.255 batting line.

Wahl might be hit or miss, but have you seen the numbers the other guy they got for Familia, Will Toffey, is putting up at AA so far? He’s got future MLB everyday 3B written all over him. Plus defense and superior pitch recognition = pretty good MLB player at minimum.

Calm down Justin. It’s AA. He’s got to succeed at AAA and then learn how to hit off speed pitching in the majors. The % that make it is not very high and complicating things is that he is a Met.

Good defensive 3B with zero pop. He’s a pretty good mlb player if things go right. Saying that he’s that at minimum is ridiculous. He’s almost 24 so it’s not like he isn’t physically mature yet. The power is never going to be there and he’s not going to maintain a .381 BABIP. If everything goes right he’s a Lower end starting 3B.

I just reread Justin’s post and now understand where his name overdrive comes from.

He even describes the potential career minor leaguer as hit or miss. Mets fans are really funny. Too bad that they dropped off this site in the past couple of months.

Rumor has it that they are camping out at Barclays’ Center waiting for Nets basketball to start

Looks like Bobby’s season has hit the Wahl.
But as Scarlett O’Hara said, “Zamora is another day…”.
