Minor MLB Transactions: 8/16/18

By Jeff Todd | August 16, 2018 at 7:07pm CDT

We’ll house the day’s minor moves in this post:

  • The Blue Jays announced that right-hander Brandon Cumpton was outrighted after clearing waivers. He had been designated for assignment recently. The 29-year-old has previously been removed from a 40-man roster in such a fashion, meaning he’ll be eligible to elect free agency now or at season’s end. Cumpton, a former ninth-round draft pick, made it back to the majors this year with Toronto after a three-year absence. He only received one appearance, but that still marks a notable rebound for a player who was sidelined for all of 2015 and 2016 due to injuries. In his 26 2/3 innings at Triple-A this year, Cumpton owns a 5.40 ERA with 7.4 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.

Why was Cumpton on the Blue Jays 40 man roster? Any organization with scouting talent would know that he is minor league fodder at best.Someitmes I shake my head at the Blue Jays executive decisions these days.

Just about anybody other than anyone in the Mets management would be better than shatkins! I would take almost any random fan from the streets who knows a small amount of baseball over those guys

You would be classified as a moron if that’s the case

Seldom right and wrong again JDGoat.

Yes, no reason for Cumpton to have been on the 40-man in the first place – especially IF the organization had Reid-Foley in the plans for this year. You develop players, you bring them up. No late-20/early-30’s arms necessary for this team. No reason for it.

I’ve already said it once when you brought up Drake. You don’t bring up a SP prospect and put him in the bullpen, unless you’re trying to win like we did with Sanchez. Bringing up A guy and having him sit in the bullpen like Cumpton is what every team does as the 25th man on the roster.

Um….YES! Ofcourse you have him start. No kidding. Why bring this up? When did I EVER say “put him in the bullpen”? NEVER! Reid-Foley comes up to start, period. Not sure what you’re trying to say here.

I’m “wrong again”…… because I think Shatkins is smarter than some rando off the street? Lmao. Theres no need to live with a pitchfork in hand all the time, Trim. Once again, I’m sorry my comment has offended you.

You called someone a moron. What qualifies you to call someone names on a keyboard? Rhetorical question. It doesn’t.

Dude had an opinion about the Mets and your best comeback was calling him names. Seldom right, and wrong again JDGoat. Congratulations.

It’s actually amazing that you skipped the part of the comment that WAS moronic and went to the Mets part. Pitch forks man

You still haven’t explained why. Because you didn’t I presume it’s because you can’t and you are petty.
