We’ll use this post to track the day’s minor moves …
- The Pirates announced that right-hander Casey Sadler has been outrighted after clearing waivers. He lost his roster spot recently as the organization called up prospect Kevin Newman, bringing a close to a brief return to the majors for the 28-year-old. Sadler had turned in a useful showing at Triple-A to earn his way back to the big leagues. In 76 frames over eight starts and 18 relief appearances at the highest level of the minors this year, he carries a 3.43 ERA with 7.1 K/9, 3.1 BB/9, and a 44.2% groundball rate.

Casey Sadler = Casey’s Partner?

I hope this guy can continue to pitch well in AAA so that he has a chance to get back to the ML to find out what he can do.I wish him good luck.

Same, I don’t really know much about him nor am I a Pirates fan, but for some reason I’ve always pulled for him.

19 inning almost a 7 era…

Pirates fan, but reality is we have no one in our lineup that pitchers fear. We are what our record says we are mediocre. Pitching is where it starts yes but we have gone on for years how pitching is necessary and ignored our bats and development. No power!

The weird thing is, Chicago has those bats to which you speak but looking at the totals for this year, the Cubs have the same number of homers as the Bucs. Pirates are 7th in MLB in average, 8th in hits, 13th in Doubles yet can score few runs. They rank 19th in that department.

What that means is Chicago is underachieving and Bryant has not had a good year because of injuries. The Pirates have a deep lineup with no real weak links, but no real power hitters. In the old days they were the 3,4,and 5 hitters.Too many low scoring games recently where some power would have won some of the games. They will have to make a hard decision on Josh Bell next year if clear cut improvement is not made.Their hope is that Kang comes back full time to play third base with power.

The Pirates minor league system has provided some good pitchers but no power.MLB power costs money on the market. The Pirates will not win anything until they get 2 or 3 guys who can put the ball out of the park on a regular basis. They do not have them now,nor will they be getting any in the near future.

And why is that? Because they will never pay up. And they can’t even put more than a run up over the past week! Hacking at the first pitch, letting your pitcher hit with a man on 3rd when you’re only down a run. There’s no urgency with this FO or management coaches. Ho hum let’s just hope for the best all the whole our pitchers are throwing out of their minds! It’s pathetic

This essentially is what David Freese said at the beginning of spring training.I think Hurdle is generally a good manager but he shows no enthusiasm anymore and the lack of fundamentals of some of the players and third base coach is alarming.I think that giving him a substantial number of more years in a new contract was a big mistake.

And he was a hitting coach in Texas. This guy has so much bs in him he can’t even muster enough sense to look at his lineup and see who will give us the best chance to score more than a run. He’s full of one liners and quips. He needs to go. Along with the whole front office the GM the drunk and we can trade Nutting for a wad of chewed bubble gum.

He doesn’t even know how to play for one run., steal second or hit and run, hit to the right side to move the runner to third and bring him home with a sac fly.
Lost count of how many times they have scored zero runs lately.

i agree that it was a big mistake. The Pirates will have the most rested team by the end of the season, he often puts out a pathetic lineup in the last game of a series. Who can forget him starting Luplow over Meadows? If Luplow was so good why didn’t Tampa want him.?He plays guys in key games and situations such as Luplow, Neverauskas,, Moroff, Holmes, McRae, Felix and Tanner Anderson. These guys should only play in blow outs or if someone is hurt.

Wish Clay Holmes was dfa’d

I also question the logic or lack thereof of moving Holmes between starting and relieving continuously. He may not be MLB ready, but I think it unfair to him to do so.
raisethejollyroger
He’s not an MLB ready pitcher especially in such a big moment. He clearly was shaken even with a 2 run lead. This team is done. Hurdle the consulate cheerleader rather being a manager. This is 2011-2012 all over again. Showed promise then tank at the end of year when it got real. White flag
