FEBRUARY 22: via TwitterThe deal would pay Maybin $1.75MM in the majors and has $250K in plate appearance-based incentives, per Baggarly ().
FEBRUARY 17: Maybin has joined the Giants, Maria Guardado of MLB.com tweets.
FEBRUARY 16: Per Andrew Baggarly and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Giants are “finalizing” an agreement to bring outfielder Cameron Maybin to Spring camp as a non-roster invitee.
Maybin, 32 in April, has spent time with four teams over the last two seasons, dropping an identical 88 wRC+ in each. Mired for the last three seasons in fourth-outfielder limbo, the former first-rounder has seen his once-vaunted center-field defense decline sharply with age. In nearly 2,800 innings at the position since the beginning of 2015, the longtime MLB vet has posted -26 DRS, though his numbers did normalize a bit in the last two seasons.
Rushed to the big leagues at the ripe age of 20, Maybin was quickly shipped in the Miguel Cabrera trade to Miami, where he never quite found his footing at the plate. A cross-country swap to San Diego offered respite, and Maybin’s 105 wRC+, 4.3 fWAR 2011 season precipitated a 5 year, $25MM extension for the young outfielder. Tough times followed, though, and the Friars cut their losses just three seasons in.
The then-29-year-old looked to turn a corner in 2016, when he slashed .315/.383/.418 for Detroit in part-time play, though his BABIP (.383) was hardly congruent with his hard-hit rate (24.7%), and he again faced regression the next season. All told, Maybin has slashed a respectable .254/.322/.368 (92 wRC+) in 3,848 lifetime MLB plate appearances, which mirrors closely his Steamer projection (92 wRC+) for the upcoming season.
The Giants would figure to have a place for Maybin in center, as the weak side of a Steven Duggar platoon, but the up-for-grabs outfield, the sloppiest projected crop in years by the bay, could align with him in a full-time role at either corner. Either way, he’ll jostle with a veritable grab-bag of candidates, including Gerardo Parra, Mac Williamson, Austin Slater, Chris Shaw, John Andreoli, Cesar Puello, Mike Gerber, Craig Gentry, Drew Ferguson, and Anthony Garcia, for any number of roles. ZiPS, interestingly, projects Ferguson, the Rule-5 selection, and Garcia, the longtime Cardinal farmhand, to post the highest WAR totals of any Giants outfielders in the upcoming season.

Harper to Philadelphia could be coming soon?
mays2425
That’s the last thing I heard. That a deal between them was gaining momentum.
cscd1111
Its between the Phillies and Nats, deals rounding 3rd, could this be the day?
basebaIl1600
The Nats are not resigning Harper. It’s between the Phillies and the Phillies. Boras is driving up the price.
terror661
Yup
xXabial
I thought you don’t believe any headline unless MLBTR post it??? now you are agreeing the Phillies without an actual confirm from you sites direct sources? hmmm
basebaIl1600
I don’t believe the headline, but it’s pretty clear the Phillies are the team in the middle of the bidding war right now.
xXabial
how are the phillies in the middle of the bidding war after you just said ” its between the Phillies and the Phillies”….so which philly is in the middle? you contradict yourself way to much and now its time to call you out. be yourself and stop following others.
BrewersMVP08
who cares?
HartnellDown
The rest of the remaining FAs. And me, go Phils.
James1955
BrewersMVPPo8. If you don’t care about Maybin, why did you read the article and post?
geejohnny
Actually I don’t care anymore either. This song and dance has been dragging on long enough. And the actual article wasn’t about Harper…a post mentioned him and away we go with the back and forth stuff.
geejohnny
He meant who cares about Harper not Maybin….obviously.

Harper to Yankees* should be coming soon?
Longer time passes, better chances of Harper-Yanks.
It’s all speculation. This is my own.
basebaIl1600
For once I agree with you X. I don’t believe what these insiders say until something’s finalized, they all just want to be the first to break news, so they start opening their mouths as soon as they get the slightest bit of a hint that a deal may be coming.
xXabial
Google bryce Harper and you will see many direct resources. its not the matter who wants to be first. ..MLBTR is about rumors…some are right some are wrong however the authors have had a delay on a rumor. so again, Google bryce Harper…info is there
todd76
Harper to Phillies.
antibelt
They have plenty of talent in NYY outfield. How on Earth would that make sense to them??
ChiSoxCity
It wouldn’t. Yankees fans are clueless about baseball, so they fixate on big names and “star” power. Phillies fans are too.
Solar Flare
Well, theoretically they could find a way of fitting him in and they could by making Gardner a 4th outfielder, because Hicks and Judge are certainly not losing their jobs as starting outfielders. I don’t think Harper will be a Yankee, though.
antibelt
And Stanton??
Solar Flare
He would play in the outfield when one of the other three either take the day off or are DHing.
captainsalty
Sorry Greg Bird is their DH of the future no room for Stanton there
sleepyfloyd
Again you are wrong. The Yankees have too many high priced stars and future high priced guys to worry about. Last thing they need is another Stanton like contract to tie them up for years to come.
imgman09
Well then go play with yourself on a philly story
VTGiant
I hope Harper to somewhere comes soon
Yankeedynasty
This May show that giants are out. After Washington out yesterday, and SD already getting Machado, it might be the Pills and just the Phillies
Logan10braves
Non-roster invitee? This market chewed him up.
arc89
Did you look at his stats? Nothing special a 4th or 5th outfielder. He is no guarantee on the giants because their youngsters have a bigger upside than him. Its called insurance plan or hail mary pass.
VTGiant
I’m not convinced the youngsters have a bigger upside. I know Williamson was lighting it up until the injury. I hope one of those guys steps it up
JayRyder
Ok here we go. . . Another right hander who can play center. . . This will work. . .
Brixton
‘can play center’ might be generous
cland1494
That’s a weird way to say that they traded for Ellsbury…
trendysayings
Giants NRI outfielders are better than their 40-man options at this point.
Balk
At least this team is actually putting these guys under contract. Unlike the rest of these clubs that are sitting on there hands
nowheretogobutup
Ya they are the old boys from the scrap heap
basebaIl1600
Duggar > Parra, Slater > Maybin. Sorry, just an opinion.
Balk
Williamson has big time potential, and let’s say he makes it cause if not he’s gone! Lol
basebaIl1600
He’s 28 though, coming off injury. I think he has the most offensive potential of the bunch but he needs to start off spring strong or else things may look dismal for him.
Balk
Exactly, for once it would be nice to see a guy with his potential break camp and smash the ball
sleepyfloyd
Williamson sucks he’s almost 30 so stop with the “potential” BS
sfbill
He was electric last year before the concussion. He should at the very least get an opportunity
gmenfan
Five games is the definition of small sample size theater.
Dufus magee
You obviously do not follow williamson. He changed his swing two winters ago, smashed in spring trainingbut went down because the swing change was still new. He crushed triple to the tune of somewhere around 8 hrs and a sub 500 batting average until he was called up in may. He dominated and hit balls in places oppo that only Bonds reached until getting the concussion. He suffered the effects until september and has been working with his swing coach, the same guy who ressurected justin turner, all this winter. I expect him to be in the lineup and not leave for a long time. So now explain why he sucks. Because he is 28?
WarrenSpahn
Parra and Maybin have proven they can play in the big leagues. Duggar and Slater? no…
basebaIl1600
Duggar provided 1.1 WAR last year in only 40 games. That’s more than Parra last year in 100 games.
nentwigs
C’mon. Just invite all warm body, free agent outfielders to the Giant’s Spring Training.

Yes, I like this signing.
commentinggenius
Maybin, Gentry, Solarte, Parra, Vogt, Rivera, Rupp, Beachy, all minor league signings. Wonder who makes the team?
Pomeranz, Holland, Venditte. Major league deals
Trevor Gott, Jose Lopez, John Andreoli, Mike Gerber, Keyvius Sampson, Donovan Solano, Jamie Callahan signed to help out on the farm.
Trades netted Jake Barrett and Breyvic Valera.
Not the sexiest moves, but good rebuilding moves IMO.
Did I miss anything besides Zaidi taking over?
coldbeer
Rebuilding? They have 7 guys making at least $12m and a couple at $20+ so these moves are not to rebuild. They are to try to find cheap solutions. They should be going all in in FA not these “depth” moves.
commentinggenius
I would consider what Zaidi is doing is trying to rebuild the farm and the major league team with cheap quality options in an effort to bring down payroll
commentinggenius
If the could trade Longoria, Shark, or even Belt I’m sure they would have already done it
petrie000
Even rebuilding teams need warm bodies to fill out the major league roster
Best case scenario is one of these guys proves useful trade bait
Worst case is they all blow and you just get a better draft pick
basebaIl1600
I agree with this testament, but if not Solarte who else on the FA market could be a utility INF? Marwin Gonzalez wants 60M, which is clearly an overpay. Harper wants 300M, which may not be an overpay, but can handcuff the organization financially. Id say the only disappointment is that we haven’t found a way to unload some contracts by packaging them with ML talent (Will Smith packaged with Mark Melancon, for example) but that type of trade is hard to pull off when a guy like Melancon is coming off terrible years.
SFGiants4ever
Baseball1600, here is what I find wrong with your comment, Melancon, while not the closer he is getting paid big money to be, is definitely not the worst contract on the books, and probably with a good 1st half could be moved without adding on someone else if the Giants are out of contention at the end of July.
The 2nd thing I have a problem with is on a similar notion, the Giants traded their best remaining pitching prospect last year so they could “dump salary”, it would be a terrible waste to do that again, especially if Smith pitches the way he did last season.
pustule bosey
wtf are you talking about, the only pitcher the giants traded was behr and a promising guy in a+ ball isn’t their last pitching prospect by far
nowheretogobutup
Its good for fifth place, sorry guys
SFGiantsGallore
Sucks for Williamson and Duggar. They were like “okay this will be our year to be full time in the majors. Nothing holding us back and no one to fill the void. WE’RE GOLDEN!” (Along comes Zaidi) “Hey lets invite all the outfielders in the MLB to spring training!” Lol. I kinda like what he’s doing with the team though. Rather than just waiting around for prospects to bloom he’s taking action. Which is far better than the past regime for the last couple years.
gmenfan
“This is Williamson’s year !” – every March since 2015
coldbeer
Does he get a stall in the locker or does he have to get ready in the storage room with Solarte?! Zaidi is making moves!!! Lol

Pomeranz, Solarte and now Maybin. Giants sure like them some Padres castoffs.
jbigz12
Not sure if Pomeranz wore a padres jersey long enough to qualify as a castoff..
madbumsf
Harper without a doubt is going to sf
petrie000
Is he that big of a Cameron maybin fan?
James1955
The Giants were in the race late. They had injuries and no depth. Zaiti is doing numbers for depth.
petrie000
The only people who believe
I’ve the Giants ‘were in it late’ are the diehard Giants fans.
The Giants are the odds on favorites to finish last in that division right now.
basebaIl1600
But it’s true? They were 5 games behind the Dodgers in August. Isn’t that “in it”? The Dodgers and Rockies went on large win streaks, so SF traded McCutchen and Posey opted to have surgery instead of playing the rest of the season with the hip strain. After that, they lost 12 straight games, and in total only won 5 games in September which went them from a team barely above .500 to a team that was 8 games under .500 and 4th in the division.
petrie000
When the season ends and you’re a complete after thought, yes, that’s being ‘out of it’
Being five back In August and then disappearing from the race by September doesn’t count.
nowheretogobutup
Harper for sure will end up with the Phils, money talks the rest walks. Padres offered seven yrs. Giants offered three yrs. those are just rumors floating around
ChiSoxCity
I don’t get this SF thing with Harper. Why leave the Nats to go to a far worse team with very little talent, a bad farm system, and no payroll flexibility? Makes zero sense.
22jclark
They won squat in Washington. Got beat by the Giants in the playoffs in the past. Stunk something awful last year with all that talent. Nats ain’t winning anything. That’s why he’s packing his bags. Giants will be fine, with or without him
ChiSoxCity
The Giants won’t be fine until they unload most of their roster and rebuild. Not that I care. Machado’s a much better fit for an AL team. Matching him with Eloy Jimenez that young White Sox lineup should be one of the best tandems in baseball.
zachgwest
I assume it’s long term franchise player tag besides that yea… no sense the Giants have along was to go to rebuild their farm and team.
madbumsf
Harpers goin to sf
curlydub
Guess no Harper
LoveOfBaseball
Looks like I won’t be watching the Giants play this season. They’ll overpay for aging has beens with tramendous downside (Jeff Sacrapya and Mark Molasses), but they won’t overpay for a 26 year old superstar who could turn them in the right direction.
terror661
It’s probably not the best move to sign Harper anyway. It was all a Boras tactic. But nothing has been said yet.
LoveOfBaseball
Quite honestly you could claim that this was just a leverage move or the Giants could have some balls and actually jump ahead of the Phillies and sign this guy. He’s 26 years old and a superstar and it’s a rare situation where you’ll be getting production from him out of the 10 years that you signed him.
gmenfan
The lack of suitors for the two “superstars” this offseason should be telling. Nobody is jumping ahead to overpay for a guy who’s posted a sub 2 WAR in nearly half of his seasons in the majors ? Shocking …
petrie000
That line of reasoning doesn’t hold water because it doesn’t also apply to Manny Machado, who is likewise still awaiting a contract
James1955
Jumping off the bandwagon. You are a fair weather fan. See you when the Giants win again.
LoveOfBaseball
Na i’m just getting sick of stupid decisions from our ridiculously filthy rich ownership and front office. I’ve been a Giants fan since I was born. Used to go to candlestick Park. But then again a comment like that is probably coming from some loser who actually is a bandwagon fan.
WarrenSpahn
Zaidi probably has to get Larry Baer’s permission on every personnel move. Larry’s primary concern is filling the ball park in 2019. He thinks, and probably correctly, that people will stay away if the Giants signal a “rebuild”. Therefore, Giants have to ride out the Cueto, Samardwhatever, Molasses, Longo, Bum, Belt, etc. contracts and lose 90+ games every year…
jordan4giants 2
I love the Giants and watching them lose makes me sad. So to not be sad I don’t go to as many games, and watch less luve games on TV. Seems simple logic to me. I can still read the articles, follow stats, but don’t have emotional drain.
ChiSoxCity
Yeah, it’s an expensive way to tank. They trade for washed up players with name recognition to put butts in seats. That roster will be terrible for years.
22jclark
The new GM didn’t trade for washed up players. They are stuck with multiple bad contracts and no trade clauses. They are not presently tanking. They’re trying to create competition in the OF and have these NRI to step up and prove their worth. If they’re out at the trade deadline then they’ll trade off the guys who can be traded.
terror661
It’s weird everyone is believing a reporter who said the Giants only offered a short term deal. They offered at least 7 years. That’s short term? That reporter doesn’t know. Other guy “who knows” says it’s the Giants. The “latest” report is an hour after the other “latest” report but the decision was made yesterday? Makes no sense.
mays2425
The last one is “a deal is gaining momentum with philly.” I agree with you in that their offer wasn’t THAT short. I do think someone is leaking info to try to get the giants to push a little bit harder because that’s where he wants to go. The giants have always been really quiet when dealing with players too so it could seem like it’ll come out of nowhere. Hell… no one would have known that they met with Harper in the first place if it wasn’t for that fan who ran into Larry Baer.
nowheretogobutup
Boras is leaking the info to drive up his value he loves doing that like a car salesman
James1955
Lets see if there is a different rumor the next day.
madbumsf
Totally agree
Redwolves3
No wonder the sports analysts and fans are scratching their heads about the direction the Giants are going. “Rebuild or stay afloat.” None of the outfield options … including latest signings … will strike fear in opposing teams … no legitimate star. Just a mish-mash of outfielders who are not everyday starters.
LoveOfBaseball
I agree. Why even bother signing all these dumpster players. It’s like the front office asked to lie to themselves just to feel better about the products they putting on the field. I don’t expect winning every year, but at least rebuild and retool so that we can move forward instead of sitting in this stupid idol position for several years. Essentially if we would’ve just begin rebuilding a couple of years ago, we were still going to the same growing pains two years in a row now but now we have no progress.
giantsguy41
Exactly…good luck selling the idea of this team to season ticket holders. It’s going to be a LONG season
nowheretogobutup
Fifth place I’m afraid, time to tear it down and rebuild like so many others are doing
terror661
Giants struck no fear in any series in 2010,2012,2014 and were picked by no one to win even one playoffs series. Giants haters are beyond a broken record to us.
mays2425
Absolutely true! The guys they have want to win and know how to do it. They’ll get a few more guys for the outfield and will be better than people think.
22jclark
They can’t go rebuild because they have too many immovable big money contracts. Once the season starts, let’s see how hings go. At the trade deadline, if the Giants are not contending AND IF Bum, Smith, Watson, Panik, and maybe Holland or Pomeranz are doing well, then you’ll see it turn towards rebuild because they will be gone. Can’t trade Crawford, Posey, Shark, Longoria, etc because of the enormous contracts or no trade clauses. If one of these guys is having a monster year and waives no trade or another team is willing to pay the obscene contract, maybe they can move one of them as well. If they are doing well then we shall see what Zaidi does to add on
giantsguy41
This team will be so incredibly bad. Depth, smepth…it still stinks. Trade posey and bum to a contender and let them finish their careers with a winner.
madbumsf
Way too have faith in ur team
terror661
No. The team maybe bad but making it worse will help? Posey and Bum haven’t done anything wrong and want to remain Giants. They have done more already in their careers than most all stars dream of. What else do they have to accomplish? Another thing other teams fans don’t seem to grasp. “Giants are terrible blah blah blah”. No other team has won 3 in 5 since the Yankees. Only their fans know what it’s like to win that many in such a short amount of time, since I’ve been alive. Being a Giants fan and losing 90 games is still better than being a fan of any other team. So it’s all good.
madbumsf
Ok gotchu
giantsguy41
Not sure I need a lecture on what being a Giants fan is. Everyone gets so defensive when the slightest negative comment is made about this team. You can be a fan while also being realistic. This team (my team) will be horrible. I’m incredibly grateful for the championships. That doesn’t mean this team won’t be horrible. Is the only measure of a fan based on unrealistic (and sorta sad) false hope?
terror661
You didn’t read what I wrote. I wasn’t lecturing you on “how to be a Giants fan”. Lol
nowheretogobutup

WarrenSpahn
and the garlic fries and the ball park…
NoTradeClause
Posey has a full no trade clause. He’s not leaving. So does mark melancon. Brandon belt has an annual 10 team list he can block. Crawford has a full no trade. Samardzija has an 8 team block with most likely little current trade value. That’s not even every player with a large restrictive contract. Zaidi inherited a tough situation and an organization lacking depth almost everywhere. It’s not as easy as most of you say it would be. That also is why your not a baseball executive I guess
22jclark
All these signings are all upside no downside unlike the past few years of bad signings. These are prove it deals with these free agents. I believe Williamson and Duggar will lock down 2 of the 3 spots barring injury or atrocious springs. At any rate, bringing in all these guys with MLB experience will push the younger guys and 1 or 2 of these guys are bound to stick and have a great year. Give Zaidi a break until we have some real games to gauge things. I’m sure he has tried to unload some bad contracts but you’re going to have to take a bad contract back or give up young talent which the Giants do not have much of. They can’t force Harper to sign with them. At the end of the day, The Giants have won 3 WS titles in the past 9 seasons, nobody else can say that. They are trying to rebuild and be competitive, that is all you can ask for. Throwing $350M at Harper does not make much sense to me. Let the remaining bad contracts play out, draft well, restock and make wise moves when they are available and they’ll be fine. If the core guys would just do their jobs and stay healthy, this team will be better than .500. Nobody has to have a career year, just do your job. They are adding depth and when you look at the big picture, this is not a bad club. Yes, I enjoy the kool aid and I’ll keep drinking it. Go Giants!!! .

madbumsf
I love the giants. What I would do is trade belt, panik, samardzjia, melancon, and sign Harper. I know it’s a lot of money but it’s not mine sooooooo. He would kill that right field wall and be the next bonds type player. What if the giants could end up landing a player like Charlie Blackmon? Him Harper and Duggar? Pretty good outfield if u ask me
22jclark
Who you going to trade these guys to? That is the problem, the contracts are obscene with the exception of Panik and 2B is not a high demand position at the moment. Most MLB teams are set at 2B. You would have to eat a lot of each of these contracts or take a bad contract in return. Melancon will be fine this year. He is finally 100% recovered from the pronator issue. I expect him to do well.
madbumsf
Belt would kill it as a yankee or red and maybe throw the samardzjia contract in there too. Eat the money but just get done with them. Release samardzjia even if you have to
NoTradeClause
Three out of the four players you mentioned have full or partial no trade clauses and little to no value after extremely rough seasons. If they perform well and buil value back I’m sure they will try and trade them to an approved team. Still highly unlikely.
madbumsf
Panik is cheap, belt still has value, and melancon has struggled and battled injuries. Samardzjia is the difficult one
NoTradeClause
They are all difficult you have to consider their contracts. If they don’t want to leave they will block contending teams looking for talent. Belt absolutely has value but he has control over his situation. So does melancon. So does samardzjia. Panik had a rough season but still has great defense. I’m sure they have guaged interest but maybe it’s not worth it. Be patient and hope for the best because this most likely is it right now. Hopefully the team can stay healthier. That alone was a huge factor in their run
nowheretogobutup
You’re not going to get much more than a bag of peanuts and popcorn for those guys, there best years are gone
madbumsf
Bryce is an amazing player and to see him play on my favorite team would be surreal. I’ve followed him since his rookie year and have loved him. The giants are in a tough spot, for them to get him and dump other terrible contracts like samardzjia and Longoria would be awesome
HBan22
This is… necessary?
madbumsf
Everyone’s a giants hater. They have no idea how much bad luck they’ve had over the last 2-3 years. They could definitely contend if they get Harper. Maybe not this year but in 2 or 3
petrie000
It’s only bad luck when it’s a fluke
When it happens consistently over 2-3 years, that’s not being unlucky anymore, that’s being fundamentally flawed in some way.
In this case that flaw is being completely dependent on aging and expensive players to somehow defy the laws of nature and not break down…
All good things must come to an end. For the Giants that was in 2016.
Central Valley
Harper is going to sign with the Giants. The players and their families are recruiting the Harpers hard. Giants ownership is listening and are on board financially. I wasn’t so sure at first, but think it’s in the Giants favor.
By the way, someone call Bobby Evans and fire him again please.

Are you also in the Central Valley?
sasafrass81
Us Central Valley peeps must stick together, I grew up in the Bay Area, North Bay Santa Rosa and remember going to Giants games at the Stick. Then my parents divorced and my mom moved to valley and I have hated it ever since lol. I split time between the bay and the valley and was always happier in the bay going to see the Giants, Sharks and Warriors. Plus, we always went to the Bay Bridge series before the season started. My father died 5 years ago and I have been to only a series per year. I miss my dad, but I have a lot of memories due to him working as a grounds keeper and meeting Giants legends and my favorite is still Lon Simmons and Peter Magowan. Win or lose, I am a Giants fan and will return to the bay area to retire.
GiantsFanForever
The possibility of signing Harper is getting to be a bit, er, torturous. Every time I see Giants as “favorites” to sign him, I scurry through SFGATE, NYT and WAPO websites to see if there’s any news. I hope they do sign him, and use some of all the other outfielders being signed as some sort of trade fodder.
chicoescuela
Giants will be fine with or without Harper. Everyone asks when will we get this next Muncy…this is how it’s done
ChiSoxCity
You mean the Giants will be bad, with or without Harper, right?

68tigers84
At least they have hope!
ChiSoxCity
Wow.. I thought Cubs fans were delusional. That’s some potent koolaid they’re serving in the Bay area these days.
I guess multiple championships will do that to a fan base. I got respect for that. However, seeing Madbum past his prime and not much power in the lineup, I’d be concerned about these moves by their GM, from a fan’s perspective. They better hope Harper’s best years are ahead of him.
22Leo
It was hilarious from the very beginning that the Giants fans thought they were going to get Harper and the best they get is Maybin. Personally I wish they had signed Harper because the team that does so will regret it very soon and I’ve been saying that all along. I think the whole meeting with Harper was designed to appease the Bay Area fanbase and fool them into thinking they had big plans. I think the same thing is going on with the Padres and Machado but I also think that the team who signs Machado will regret it very soon as well and neither of those teams would be competitors with either of those guys.

The players on the Giants are fortunate their contracts are guaranteed. If they had NFL contracts, they’d all be cut.
Sounds like Harper is signing with Philadelphia. Giants fans are going to have a long, long season to endure. A team full of often injured, non producing players that all have full no trade clauses.
I love the Giants, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they finish last in the NL West this year. The Padres are absolutely loaded with MLB ready talent.

I realize as you get older, injures are more likely but, they’ve had a bunch of crazy injuries over the past couple of years and hopefully they can stay healthy this year. Longoria should be a little better, more familiarity with NL and hopefully he’s a bit more patient at the plate. Panik is solid when he’s healthy. If he plays 145 games, he’ll be .280 or better. Belt will be between 15-20 HRs, craw will be around .250 with 10 or so jacks, Posey should be back around .300 and at 14-22 HR’s. It would be nice if Williamson can stay healthy and produce +20 HR’s. Duggar and whoever they platoon with him should be fine offensively and defensively they’ll be a + in CF. Need at least 1 other guy out of this bunch of NRI to step up and go big at a corner OF position. Panda, Hanson, Solarte and whomever else they keep should be decent contributors during the year. The pitching staff will be anchored by that strong bullpen and the starters could be good too. A lot of options vying for that 5th starter. I think things will be better this year IF they stay healthy!

If things break well for the Giants I could see them eking out a Wild Card, with the strength in the East and Central. But were they in the NL Central I would pick them for last. If they could land Keuchel they might contend. My guess is Parra becomes a starter, better option than the others and it gives them a left-handed bat in the outfield. Granted they have 3 starters on the infield that swing from that side but a fourth wouldn’t hurt.. Hard to see Harper choosing SF on a short term deal, he would be a good get for the Gmen, but they would still need help. Keuchel and Harper might do it, but boy would they eclipse the cap by plenty.

Giants loving padres cast offs

Low risk signing. Giants aren’t the ones who gave him something like 25 million for 5 years, that was the Padres. If he stinks it up, they cut him. If he manages to play well, they get that production on the cheap. I hope Zaidi keeps signing these guys, 1 or 2 are bound to stick. Absolutely no harm bringing these guys in

That’s not fair… it seems like everyone takes a dip in SD and moves on. The Padres are the Madonna of MLB.

Maybin is attempting to play for every MLB team…
So. Cal. Giants fan
The Phiilies obviously haven’t learned from the Ryan Howard debacle. They’ll all be pointing fingers when they don’t make the playoffs.

Just like the Giants.

Better than these other teams who perpetually tank and go cheap. At least the Giants are trying to be competitive. New management, he can’t undo what previous GM did. Pretty obvious he’s going about things differently. We should reserve comment until June or July

Giants are going to win the NL West this year!!

Sometimes when I see players who hit .200 with no power I think I should have stuck with baseball

Well, there goes Harper’s chance to sign a contract with the Giants. No way he can beat Maybin out of any playing time!

Tigers had Maybin in 2016, he played super. He was injured at the start of the season. When he returned he really sparked the team, it was like the whole team woke up.
jstepanik
Makes sense. Maybin hasn’t worn a Giants uniform yet.
Boras letting Phillies bid against themselves until contract reaches 11/350.
