Orioles Claim Josh Osich, Designate Hanser Alberto

By Jeff Todd | February 19, 2019 at 1:08pm CDT

The Orioles have claimed lefty Josh Osich off waivers from the Giants, per a club announcement. To open a roster spot, they designated infielder Hanser Alberto for assignment.

Osich gives the O’s yet another lefty relief option. The 30-year-old will try to show that he can tap into his apparent upside. Osich has a big fastball and draws loads of grounders, but has struggled with control and carries a 5.01 ERA in 120 1/3 MLB innings.

As for Alberto, 26, he’ll either land back with the O’s as a non-roster player or move once again through the DFA process. He has turned in solid offensive numbers at the Triple-A level but hasn’t yet carried that over to the majors in limited opportunities.

Seeing as they traded him to the Dodgers last season, I don’t think they are that upset.

The O’s wouldnt have traded Machado if they thought for a second they could keep him

Plus we got at least three decent big leaguers, and Kremer could even become a #2 starter. Bannon and Valera were kinda useless though.

Me too. All of the relievers that let the Giants down the last few years are disappearing, it’s very refreshing as a Giants fan.

I couldn’t agree more. I just feel bad for the poor Oriole fans. Apparently they haven’t suffered enough.

Feel for the Mariner’s fans – forecasted pitching depth chart has Gerrin as a setup option to Strickland

Strickland failed as a player/teammate and man. And I fell asleep during Gearrin’s windup but don’t think he’s an asshat like Strickland. Glad they are gone!

This is a good pickup by BAL, LH pitchers who throw 95+ and induce a lot of ground balls don’t grow on trees, plus he still has an option. Sometimes guys just need to change orgs and hopefully the coaching staff there can turn the light bulb on for a guy. Osich flashed some dominant stuff at times but for whatever reason was simply not consistent appearance to appearance.

They are first in the waiver wire and should be using it judiciously.
