The latest minor moves from around baseball…
- The Braves have signed outfielder Lane Adams to a minor-league contract, according to Gabe Burns of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It won’t be the 29-year-old’s first rodeo with the Braves; he played in 111 games with the club from 2017-2018, posting an overall .818 OPS in that span. His calling card is speed, having stolen 11 bases in his Major League career while not being caught once. There’s swing-and-miss in his game, though: playing in Triple-A with the Phillies’ affiliate, he’s struck out 103 times in 306 plate appearances. As Burns notes, general manager Alex Anthopoulos cited Adams as a player who could appear with the big-league team come September.
- In one of the day’s lesser trades, the Rockies acquired minor-leaguer Jimmy Herron from the Cubs in exchange for international bonus pool money, per an official Rockies announcement. Herron, a 23-year-old outfielder, was a third-round draft choice by the Cubs last season. He’s played his first full professional season with the Cubs’ High-A affiliate, appearing in 92 games. He’s managed a .220/.320/.336 slash line while stealing 19 bases. MLB Pipeline ranks Herron outside of Cubs’ top 30 prospects.

Welcome back Lane, your speed and clutch Homers were not forgotten.

I wonder what Nico Goodrum costed from DET. You know with his flexibility, AA was asking for him with Greene.

He’s from ga. I use to play against him and I never thought he was that good back then. He’s pretty solid now. Totally different player

Didn’t really matter YOUR opinion. Evidently better than YOU, he played in the majors.

In all honesty Markakis held the team back. Solid player but couldn’t get to the level of Duvall and Ender anymore it’s the baseball gods evening out the playing field for their time.

Honestly, if you just look at stats you might be right. If you look at the number of pitches he saw every at bat, and how that helps your team and hurts the pitcher, it would paint a much bigger picture. I can 100% guarantee you this, pitchers would much rather face Duvall or Inciarte. I can’t speak to leadership, as I am not in the clubhouse, but from comments by other players, Markakis is about as well-respected in that dugout as anyone. That is also hugely important, and the older I get the more I realize it.
Sure is nice having those two on the roster and able to step in though. They are hot right now, but will almost certainly regress to career norms, which are both well below Markakis. Both AD and EI had OPS+ below 100 for their career .. and much lower recently, with 100 being ‘League Average’. Markakis is well above the 100 mark, not only for his career, but he is at 102 this year despite some recent struggles..

That is just a STUPID statement about Markakis holding the team back. YOU must not watch the Braves, it’s evident YOU know nothing about the Braves to make a statement like that.

Decent pickup for outfield depth only–fits the definition of a AAAA player.

To Markakis’s defense, they only paid him peanuts this year to play. I think they valued continuity on the team and Markakis is a stable leader. Obviously, Duvall will not keep this pace. Hopefully, he doesn’t regress like Riley has. If Duval continues to produce he will keep the job and they will likely decline the $6 million dollar option on Markakis next year. I project Atlanta OF next year will be Duval, Acuna, and Inciarte. I figure Inciarte stays until Pache hits the scene.
The Trade Deadline has now passed. Picked up improved options. Greene will likely regress from his current numbers, but his numbers should still be more impressive than what we had. Overall, gave up 3 Top 30 prospects, none of which were our top 5 or 6. I posted on another thread that the only thing the Braves have to maneuver with is international slot money, which they spent a great deal of last year, and cold hard cash. I think that became evident in the Melancon deal. Not a lot of money committed next year so they did the deal. Anderson, Wright, Waters, Pache, and Langeliers all have to pan out for the Braves. The international sanctions will take time to overcome.
