Donaldson is on pace for 36 HR, 90 RBI with plus defense in line with Arenado (currently) and hasn’t missed a game in 1.5 months. If that’s only “good”, I’ll take it knowing the price of “great” in a shallow 3B market without Arenado.

I agree man, Donaldson has been great this year. 21 dubs, 18 hr 50 rbi . 856ops, good D. Playing pretty much like he did with Toronto.

“Braves, Yankees, and Padres are generally considered to have the deepest farm systems in baseball”
Yankees really? They have 2 in the top 100… Florial (a .229 hitter) and Loaisiga (a 7.20 era). I know, batting average and era mean nothing. Wouldn’t Astros be an option? Twins?

I choked when I saw that. You can replace Yankees with many other teams, most likely the Rays.

The Rays are miles deeper than the Yankees system at this point. The Yankees are in the top half of the league in overall depth but claiming they are top 3
Is a massive overstatement. I’m not sure you put the Stros very far ahead of the Yankees on overall depth. The Yankees may have more quantity of depth but the Astros have more potential big impact players. (Tucker, Whittley)

I thought it was weird to see the Yankee’s in that list as well.

Yankees need a starter with Severini’s health in the air and Happ throwing batting practice.

I only got a partial answer to my question. I know the Giants would have to eat some of Samardzija’s salary, but is it worth it to them do so just to move him? I’m not sure if trading him is worth more in the long run, or if keeping him to eat up innings would be better, since they probably aren’t competing this year or next.

You’d have to eat a substantial amount of money to move him. You’d also need an arm to take his spot. Essentially, they’d be paying him not to play with the Giants and I don’t think their in house options would make this possible. His issue is the big innings and the amount of bombs he gives up. Last 2 starts have been great. Short answer, no, I don’t think it’s worth it to move him. What they need is for these big money guys to pull their weight. The big contract guys are the guys killing them.

I’m so sick of service time manipulation. In every other sports, teams sign rookies, and they have a certain number of years where they have their services. When that time is up, they have to re-sign, or move on.

Both Madrigal and Robert could be called up now, and would likely be upgrades, but Hahn yet again is going to concern himself with what might happen in five years as opposed to showcasing his talent to help attract much needed free agent help.

God forbid the Sox call up Robert and take at bats away from the great, Willie Jon Jay Mays.

Oh my god why do people keep asking if the Gleyber for Chapman trade was worth it?!?!? Unless you are the NYY where a title is a dime a dozen any trade that directly leads to a championship is 100% worth it every time.

I think the Astros need to get another starter and a lefty specialist. Their offense is excellent. Boyd and Hardy for Beer and Tucker. Astros need a starter they can run out there every 5th day and Boyd has proven himself a durable starter. The Astro coaches might turn him into a top starter, but for now, he would be a solid number 4 or 5 for them. Hardy is good against lefties. Tucker is a future star… Beer wouldn’t be missed by the Astros. A player without a position and high K rate. He has potential, but very limited in the tool department.

Mark hit the nail on the head with the Chapman trade. Gleyber Torres is a star. Gonna be a stud for a long time. As a die hard Cubs fan (and just baseball fan in general), I’ll enjoy watching him play, and yeah, he’d sure look nice as the 2B on this squad, but I wouldn’t trade anything about 2016. We don’t win that title without Chapman. Period. It was such an unforgettable ride from start to finish for us fans. If we never win another title in my lifetime, we’ll always have that season.

You sure the Cubs don’t win that title without Chapman? They steamrolled their way to the World Series. And of the World Series games they won, they trounced the Indians in games 2 and 6 and Chapman came this close to blowing game 7. Only game where you could argue he made a positive difference was game 5.

If you think a 7 game series, that went 10 in game 7 was a “steamroll”, then we aren’t on the same page. I’m quite sure you didn’t even watch this series. I watched every pitch, and it wasn’t even close to a steamroll. And it wasn’t just the World Series. We don’t even get their without him. Also, your name is stupid.

Not very smart are you? I said they steamrolled their way to the World Series, not to the championship. I know the World Series came down to the wire but the only World Series game where Chapman really helped was game 5. And absolutely the Cubs make it to the World Series without Chapman. They trounced the Giants and Dodgers in that year’s postseason.

Boyd to the Astros just like Verlander. The tigers could get all the lefty hitters they need plus a lefty for the rotation

In response to Guest’s question, how much stock do you really put in the idea that if a team with a strong farm system like the Padres, Braves or Yankees makes the best trade offer, but it isn’t a colossal overpay, that the other team will take an inferior return from someone else just because the Padres, Braves and Yankees “Have prospects to burn” or whatever?

Since I live in Idaho, I believe I have creds when it comes to condiments on french fry potatoes. Here there is seldom any more than one choice; fry sauce. And it is the universal condiment of choice. It is hard to find any other option.
