Yankees Activate CC Sabathia From IL

By Anthony Franco | August 18, 2019 at 8:57am CDT

As expected, the Yankees announced they have activated left-hander CC Sabathia from the 10-day injured list. He’ll start today’s series finale against Cleveland after missing around three weeks with right knee inflammation.

It hasn’t been a banner final season for the 39 year-old, who has been especially plagued by the league’s home run surge. Sabathia’s 2.39 HR/9 is by far the worst mark of his career. While a career-worst 38% ground ball rate surely plays some part in that, an unsustainably high 21.1% HR/FB rate has contributed to that whiplash. Sabathia’s strikeouts (21.1%) and walks (7.7%) in 2019 are identical to those he put up in 2018, when he gave New York a 3.65 ERA over 153 innings.

Sabathia’s a back-end starter at this point, clearly, but it’d still be nice for the Yankees to get some volume from him down the stretch. The Bombers have ridden a power lineup and stellar bullpen to a league-best 83-42 record despite a mediocre rotation.

Duck and cover in those outfield bleachers. Seriously though he’s good for 4.1 innings (what an innings eater), and 5-6 runs.

Every inning is a stressful inning for cc. Well, every inning he has to walk out to the mound that is.

Hall of Fame? Probably. Now that the bar has been set with Baines going in. Jose cruz should be in too. His numbers are almost the same as baines. But with excellent defense and speed.

Actually Cher’s 54.4 WAR were much better than Baines’ 38.7. OF partner Cesar Cedeno also had a much better career with over 52 WAR.

Listing his current innings and penchant for giving up that many runs per outing is reality, and creativity wasn’t required mister.

Maybe he can get himself ejected before he gets pulled. Phil Cuzzi is today’s home plate umpire, so that increases this odds.

His tantrums with banging the bat are the most annoying and juvenile I’ve seen a major leaguer throw in a long time. Time for that man to grow up or tune into the LLWS in Williamsport and take notes.

10 Ks and the bench chirping just got a warning. Down 5-0, somebody’s gonna get tossed today. At least Gardner is not banging on the ceiling telling the upstairs neighbors to be quiet yet…

They just got a warning? That’s funny, the last month of them getting tossed should have been warning enough.
I like how the Yankee broadcast team complained about the ump yesterday staring into the dugout. Didn’t they complain when the umpire didn’t look into the dugout and threw out Gardner? The Yankees basically begged them to watch the dugout with the way they acted after that melt down.

And that low strike and on the paint has been called all game and was set up with the 1st batter. Theirs pitchers got it too, but they only gripe when at the plate.

Please don’t bring back CC go out and grab Corbin or Morton.
Here we are a rest home for the over extended.

    Here is another mistake

    .105 Vs Clevland
    .111 Vs Minn
    .238 Vs Houston
    .274 Vs Tampa

That’s Gardner vs these teams this year. Come the PS you’ll be begging they walk away from Brett.

    Stayed tuned
The Playoff are going to expose the Yankees SP and Gardner is going to be exposed once again. Hoping for a change in 2020 we’ll see

I’m ready to start and contribute to a gofundme for the Yankees to resign Gardner for next season. He currently ranks tied for 16th (2.8) in fWar out of ALL(!) MLB outfielders. I don’t expect you understand any of this.

Today’s pitching line for CC…3 IP , 4 earned runs, 3 BB, 1HR. His ERA now stands at 5.0. I made that original post long before the start of today’s game. Care to provide something “creative” to dispute my post.
