The Giants have designated lefty Williams Jerez, per a club announcement. That opens a roster space for the return of veteran hurler Johnny Cueto, who’ll start tonight after working back from Tommy John surgery.
The San Francisco organization carried Jerez on the 40-man all year long after picking him up in a late-spring trade. The 27-year-old permitted only a pair of earned runs in his six MLB innings, but allowed six free passes while striking out four.
Otherwise, Jerez turned in solid numbers at Triple-A this year, working to a 3.86 ERA with 9.8 K/9 against 2.6 BB/9 over 56 frames. He was especially effective against opposing lefties, holding them to a .574 OPS.

Why? He seemed solid.
Why? His lack of command. Walking guys is the worst thing a pitcher can do. 8.1 BB/9, along with a 1.950 WHIP is not solid.
In six innings. Pretty small sample size.
Small sample size is no excuse for 6 BBs in 6 IP. Had he got hit hard in an inning or 2 resulting in an inflated ERA, that would be one thing in support of the small sample take. But a guy with a walk an inning? I don’t care that it’s only 6 IP. That is about the worst thing any pitcher can do. The guy has to throw strikes, and if he can’t find the strike zone in 6 innings he deserves to be DFA’d.
Any chance we can bring him back? We deserve something for having to watch Chris Stratton “pitch” here for two months.
I had the exact same though. It’s the closest we can get to pretending Stratton never happened.

Giants need to get rid of these bums they picked up that were released by other teams. Peralta, barraclough, and pinto. There is a reason they were let go. There trash. How many games are they trying to loose down the final stretch of the season lol.
So all waiver claims are trash then? Look at Hand and Yates and the reaction when the Padres claimed those guys
