The Mariners have outrighted right-handed pitcher Matt Carasiti to Triple-A Tacoma, per an official team release. Carasiti will no longer occupy a spot on Seattle’s 40-man roster.
The 28-year-old Carasiti has tossed 9 2/3 innings for the Mariners this year, his first season pitching in the big leagues since 2016. He’s tallied ten strikeouts against five walks, posting an overall 4.66 ERA. He’s compiled solid numbers at the Triple-A level between the Mariners and Cubs organizations, pitching to a 3.53 ERA while striking out 8.3 batters per nine innings pitched.
Presumably, the Mariners are looking to clear room on the 40-man for potential call-ups from Double-A Arkansas, where the season has not yet ended.

Maybe they can make more room by DFA Hernandez. Dude is trash now.

While it’s almost inevitable that there will be a divorce between Felix and the M’s at the end of the season, it won’t happen before then. M’s want some fannies in the seats over the final weeks. They will be able to have at least 2 King’s Court nights as a “last chance” to see King Felix before he departs. The M’s also have other disposable pieces (Broxton, Bass, etc.) they could jettison before getting to Felix.
The bigger question is whether or not there will be a market for Felix this off-season. It’s looked like he was pitching well enough for a team to make him a low-base, high-incentive guaranteed contract this winter, but today’s debacle puts a damper on that. My guess is that a pitching-starved team that is either a contender or is on the verge of contention (e.g., Brewers, Angels, Reds, Rays, Twins) may take a shot on him with a non-roster invite to see if they can “fix” him. It’s obvious that Felix has totally ignored all of the advice provided to him by the M’s coaching staff, so maybe a fresh voice could help him. It’s a sad ending to what was shaping up to be a Hall of Fame career. It’s now conceivable that Felix could stick around long enough to get to 3,000 K’s but not make the HOF, making him the only pitcher with that distinction.
FYI, Arkansas lost today, so Justin Dunn, Kyle Lewis, and Evan White are probably on their way to Seattle to join the team in time for Tuesday’s game. I think all 3 have to be added to the 40-man roster this winter anyway (to protect them from the Rule 5 Draft), so giving them a little MLB experience for good seasons is a nice reward.

Agree. Felix hasn’t listened to any advice from the coaching staff. It’ll be his undoing. I think he may get a shot with the Marlins, only because he has a house down that way and they’ll need a name on their staff. But we’ll see. Some team will take a chance. Sad to see him go out this way.

The extreme bias against the, Marlins is staggeringly sad.

The extreme hate towards an aging pitcher who’s been with the team many years and provided much entertainment for fans is also sad. Sure he was well paid, but also he played for nearly 15 years on a team that never was able to do what needed to be done to attain at least a playoff berth.
It reminds me of the hate towards Ichiro before he was traded to the Yankees in 2012, because he was no longer a superstar.
The idea of releasing him now instead of letting him be on the team for three more weeks and then not renewing his contract seems almost cruel. How did Felix hurt you?

Pretty simple he either starts to listen to coach’s or his career is over
