The Orioles have claimed righty Eric Hanhold from the Mets. He takes the roster spot of southpaw Ty Blach, who was designated for assignment.
Hanhold was designated for assignment recently. The Mets have carried the 25-year-old on the 40-man roster all season long, but obviously didn’t feel he was ready to help late this season.
To this point, Hanhold has only received three MLB appearances, all coming in 2018. He owns a 96 mph fastball and has punched out 11.3 batters per nine in forty Double-A innings, but owns a 5.32 ERA with a pedestrian combination of 7.4 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in his 67 2/3 lifetime Triple-A innings.
The O’s will see if they can unlock some value from Hanhold’s strong arm. They’ll bump Blach from the roster to make way. The 28-year-old southpaw was bludgeoned for 26 earned runs in five starts in Baltimore. He also struggled quite a bit during his time this year at Triple-A, allowing 6.54 earned per nine over 96 1/3 frames.

Blach really fell appart this year.

Yes. Blach was blech.

Odd how quickly Blach went from a passable back-end-of-the-rotation option to being one of the worst pitchers in AAA.

I’ve rooted for Blach ever since he outduelled Kershaw in 2016 to help the Giants reach the postseason (That was a great season ending series to watch). Sad he hasn’t been able to put it together since. Hopefully he can find a good pitching coach somewhere in the minors that can turn him into a mlb-caliber pitcher again.

Blach’s stuff is completely run of the mill. It’s always nice to see a guy who doesn’t have great stuff really know how to pitch but I saw none of that in his short stint in Baltimore. Looked Awful every time out. We have about 3 similar lefties sitting in the minor leagues right now.

I’m really mad we DFAd Hanhold. He’s better than Bashlor,Mazza and Sewald COMBINED

The Mets final hopes rely on the Phillies who are six out with 8 to play.
The Brewers are six ahead of the Phillies but played two more games. The brewers have have seven more wins and need one win to seal the deal verse the Phillies. The Nats need one victory over the Phillies to make it 7 up with seven to play pretty much sealing the Phillies fate.
If by some miracle, the Phillies are able to take four of five, the Phillies, albeit dead, would give them Mets hope. If the Mets sweep the Marlins, the Mets would gain 3.5 games on the Nats and be a game out going into the weekend series verse the Braves.
The Nats host Cleveland and the Braves have nothing to play for. The Dodgers need one win to clinch the number one seed. The Dodgers beat the Braves 4 – 2 in six games this year. The Dodgers hold the tie breaker. The Dodgers just need one win to get to 101. The Braves have 96 wins and cannot finish with more than 101 wins..The Braves will be resting players and setting their rotation, so as a Mets fan, I have hope. The Phillies just need to help out a bit.
