January 14: Gyorko’s option is valued at $4.5MM with a $1MM buyout, tweets Robert Murray. That indicates that his 2020 base salary will be just $1MM. Gyorko can boost the value of that club option to $5.5MM by tallying 400 plate appearances or $7MM if he reaches 500 plate appearances.
January 10: The Brewers have added further infield depth to their bench, announcing a one-year contract with veteran Jedd Gyorko. The ACES client will reportedly be guaranteed $2MM on the deal, which contains a club option for the 2021 season. Right-hander Jake Faria was designated for assignment to create roster space, per the team.
Gyorko, 31, scuffled through the worst season of his career in 2019 when he posted a .174/.248/.250 slash through 101 plate appearances while battling injuries. However, he’s long been a solid big league hitter who can handle all four infield positions and, from 2016-18 in St. Louis, posted a combined .259/.331/.463 batting line with 61 homers in 1321 plate appearances.
Milwaukee was already set to enter the 2020 season with a vastly different infield mix than the one it carried in 2019. Mike Moustakas signed a surprising four-year deal with the division-rival Reds, while Travis Shaw was non-tendered and Eric Thames’ option was bought out. Meanwhile, they’ve acquired Luis Urias in a trade with the Padres and signed a trio of infielders: first baseman Justin Smoak, second baseman/shortstop Eric Sogard and corner infielder Ryon Healy. The Brewers will also have a full season of Keston Hiura in 2020 after he began the ’19 campaign in the minors.
Gyorko isn’t likely to be promised an everyday role but could bounce around the infield and serve as a right-handed complement Sogard or even to Smoak, a switch-hitter who’s better from the left side of the dish. He’ll give the Brewers some additional depth in the event of injuries or poor showings throughout the lineup, and if he’s able to return to his 2016-18 form, he’ll be yet another value pickup for a team that tends to limit its free-agent expenditures to low-cost and/or short-term commitments (Lorenzo Cain notwithstanding).
Faria came to Milwaukee in last summer’s Jesus Aguilar trade, but the 26-year-old was knocked around in brief MLB action, yielding 11 runs in 8 2/3 innings. The 26-year-old Faria impressed with 86 2/3 innings of 3.43 ERA ball and nearly a strikeout per frame in his rookie season back in 2017, but he hasn’t excelled in the Majors or in Triple-A since that time.
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic first reported the deal (via Twitter). Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported the contract value (via Twitter).

NNOOO!!!!!!!

Stick to the cheese you guys. Jedd has the potential to hit 40 in that park. He will be a great hitter off the bench.
Definitely an underrated player.

Yeah I don’t get the Gyorko hate. He’s actually pretty good…

Give him 350 at bats and he will do good things for the brewers – great addition for 2 mil. Wish him the best of luck

Seems a little late in Jedd’s career to try and reinvent himself as a pitcher.
Steve Adams
Lol — I thought amid the arbitration deluge that I listed Gyorko as a pitcher. Thanks for the scare!

Whoops! Not my intention, sorry! Just being an a-hole to Brewers fans!
Vanilla Good
That’s so much better! Thanks for existing!

It’s what I do best.
kmole
It’s hard to be an a-hole to Brewer fans, at least this one, when they agree with you on this subject. On the other hand, I can’t imagine this signing costs a whole lot.
SalaryCapMyth
Why pick on Brewers fans? They haven’t been the ones deciding to avoid signing good pitching. Brewers fans are among the fans I have the most sympathy for.
bdpecore
Well good thing the Brewers still needed to add veteran infield depth so he won’t be asked to pitch.
All American Johnsonville Dogs
If Rick Ankiel can go from pitcher to center field gyorko can go from utility man to pitcher. He needs to call his best pitch his gyorkoball

I liked JG as a card.
gonna be fun to compete against him again. hopefully he’s healthy

Agreed. He’s probably going to be a Cardinal killer after he was a Padre killer with the Birds.
mrnatewalter
Great signing by Milwaukee. If he can rebound to his 2016-2018 form, he could be influential for them.
The Brewers have done a marvelous job of building depth across their roster. Between Urias, Arcia, Sogard, Healy, and now Gyorko, the Brewers will have no shortage of infielders to work with.
All American Johnsonville Dogs
But can they pitch.
RedFeather
Yep
twentyforty
All retreads. All wishful thinking any of them are decent.
kmole
It’s not about signing superstars when you already have the best player in the NL on your team to build around.
robertp
But typically you don’t surround your best player in the NL with guys that are lucky to survive spring roster cuts. That’s expecting wayyyy too much out of Yelich.
bravesiowafan
No it’s about putting a decent line up or pitching staff around him. The brewers have neglected to do either.

Its too bad none of them will hit over .250, Gorky as we called him with the Padres is slow and had his best days in the past. He’ll work for a utility guy only maybe 150 AB’s should hit over .200
qbert1996
Yet he killed the Padres every time he faced them!

Padres traded him for 1/2,season of Jon Jay. Padre fans got on him because of weight that’s what they care about lol. Jedd was productive with Cardinals till recently

Brewers competing with the Nats to see who can sign the most over the hill players
bdpecore
If by over the hill players you mean veterans who are past their prime but still outproduce their cheap contracts then yes these two teams are head and shoulders above the other 28 teams in the league.
therealbobuecker
Funny coming from a cubs fan. At least the Brewers haven’t strapped themselves of cash like the Cubs to the point where they can’t even make depth signings. I think the Brewers will be thrilled if two of Arcia, Sogard, Urias, Healy, or Gyorko overachieve and perform.
bdpecore
If I recall he’s actually a White Sox fan so he’s just happy his team is finally dishing out free agent contracts valued over $40MM..lol
therealbobuecker
Lol fair enough if that’s true and I apologize. Nothing worse than being mislabeled as a Cubs fan!
Kidding aside, I have friends that are Cubs fans that say essentially the same thing all the time. I constantly have to explain the concept of depth signings, which I shouldn’t really have to do.
chicagofan1978
Meh. Talk to me in 3 years when we see how these contracts pay off.
chicagofan1978
No, what’s worse is following a team that has never won a championship. Lol. Sorry I had to. It’s cool, I actually like the Brewers and love Uek ( who doesn’t?) I’d love to go up and see a game soon. I’ve driven pat the ballpark and it’s beautiful.
therealbobuecker
It’s all good! Hopefully this is the Brewers year and I can revisit this thread when Jedd Gyorko is batting 6th in World Series Game 1 vs. the White Sox.
Shawnpe
Unlike the cubs, the Brewers contracts won’t be binding them to players they don’t want with 3 years and $70 mil left on the table, to eat in order to move on.
chicagofan1978
Are you happy now? Entire useless comment that has no bearing on the team I follow. I wasn’t necessarily saying it’s a bad signing I just said they are signing over the hill players like Morrison and Gyorko. Sure they still produce but I’d like to see the game get younger. But what do I. Know I’m a lowly Sox fan right?
Everaj36
I mean Morrison is a for sure depth signing. That’s what Minor League Deals are all about.
RedFeather
Lol.
DarkSide830
okay Brewers you actually do have to many infielders now…and few good ones
Phiilies2020
A lot of competition up there in Milwaukee for 6, maybe 7 infield jobs.
Same to be said for our Phillies. Hoping we can trade a guy like Gamboa or Nick Williams for some bullpen help before ST.
JobuKnows
Using a chunk of the roster on bounce back candidates… it’s a bold strategy, cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for them
Shawnpe
Cheap contracts can be easily cut if 40 man roster space becomes necessary.
Everyone outside of Milwaukee likes to judge them like they are not in a small market with far less purse string than other teams.
Bunselpower
Ahhhhh love that man named Jedd. Was always a huge fan of him here in STL. He was the second best 3B by DRS a few years ago when he got consistent time, so don’t sleep on the defense either. Good luck, Jedd!
Rangers29
Man I try to like the Brewers, but after they make good savvy trades, they fill the rest of the roster with bounce-back candidates. Hopefully some of them do bounce-back, but if they don’t, the brewers will have a few holes.
bdpecore
Besides Gyorko and Smoak which other players on their 40 man roster do you consider bounce back candidates? Garcia, B. Anderson and Sogard all had solid seasons in 2019. Lindblom is more unknown than bounce back and Healy is clearly AAA depth since we have no depth and he will still be rehabbing his back come opening day.
Rangers29
I’d say Sogard isn’t a bounce-back candidate, he is a repeat candidate. He just needs to show that last year wasn’t a fluke. As for Healy, even though he is injured, he will be a bounce-back candidate (hasn’t had an above average season since 17′). All in all I just don’t like them filling 1b and 3b with bounce-backs (besides Braun), because a slight disadvantage like that plus their iffy rotation could set them back in their division next year.
bdpecore
I get it but Smoak’s been quite consistent up until last season where analytics showed his down numbers were clearly due to bad luck and not regression. Gyorko, like Cain dealt with nagging injuries most of last season which makes their numbers seem like outliers as opposed to regression. I can agree with guys like Sogard who was good in both ‘17 and ‘19 but struggled in ‘18. But if he’s simply a super utility type I’m ok with a dip in his numbers compared to last season.
People also seem to overlook the black holes Milwaukee had at 3B, 1B and SS last season. If you figure Narvaez vs Grandal losses you roughly (.35 OBP), a full season of Hiura vs Moose is an upgrade; a platoon of Smoak/Braun should easily out produce what Aguilar/Thames provides last season. Then we are down to replacing a half season of both Hiura and Shaw, which amounts to roughly league average play, a platoon of Sogard and Gyorko at 3B should provide at least that in 2020.
Conclusion: The Brewers lineup will be more balanced and productive this season than the last.
towinagain
Brewers like ex-Padres…
ballnglove
Good grief. Why not just keep shaw and Thames? What a terrible offseason for brewer fans.
Vanilla Good
In his last full season (2018) Gyorko OPS’d over 760. The two prior seasons he was over 800. He was hurt most of last year and will see time at 3B, SS, and 2B if he sticks around. He’s so much more deserving of a spot on the 25-man than Travis bleeping Shaw.
nowheretogobutup
Gorky needs to lose about 30 lbs. that he gained last year, loves that Southern cooking
bdpecore
Based on comments by both Stearns and Shaw, the Brewers wanted to bring him back but Shaw’s feelings were hurt that he was asked to take a pay cut to do so. And Thames was replaced by a better defensive player who can actually hit LH pitchers.
So what’s the issue with bringing in similar players who are coming off down seasons like both Thames and Shaw were but who come with longer proven track records?
solaris602
Meanwhile the elephant in the room for this current team continues to be starting pitching. Unless they adequately address that problem, they won’t even sniff the next level.
bdpecore
Brewers fans have been saying Stearns needs to address his starting rotation for the past three off seasons just because he never brings in the “big name” guys. In 2018 it was “Wade Miley is washed up” and “Chacin is average at best” but they still were one game away from reaching the WS. In 2019, it was “the best Stearns can do is bring in Jordan Lyles and Drew Pomeranz at the trade deadline? What a joke!!!”. And we all know how these two dominated down the stretch and helped them make the wild card. This year its Brett Anderson, Josh Lindblom and Eric Lauer. I will gladly take a bet one or more of these pitchers will outperform their projected numbers in 2020.
When will fans finally realize Stearns has valuations for every available free agent and checks in with every one to see if his asking price is within those parameters. If not, he move on to the next player until he finds ones who fit his scale.
Rangers29
Yeah, I like the moves they are making this off-season for starters cause even though they are still getting “lower level” starters… they have more control over them… Josh Lindblom signed a 2 year deal (pretty sure) and they will also have control of Lauer for a while. That leaves Anderson to be the one with the least control, and I bet next offseason they get a younger controllable starter to fill his role.
bdpecore
Lindblom actually signed a 3 year deal with just over $9MM guaranteed ($15MM if he hits all incentives). Considering his KBO numbers resembled Ryu’s I’d say he should be a least a serviceable innings eater with his new pitching repertoire.
MannyPineappleExpress9
Because the 8 guys they currently have that could be in the rotation aren’t enough?
Woodruff, Houser, Anderson, Lindblom and Lauer are the current probable 5 starters. Any of Peralta (most likely imo, as I read recently he’s been doing very good in winter ball), Burnes (probably the least likely) and Suter *could* be in the mix.
And, who exactly at this point in the off-season is Stearns supposed to sign/trade for?
Vanilla Good
The trade market is massive. Do you really want a list of all starters available for trade?
MannyPineappleExpress9
Just the ones that are affordable..in terms of both salary and what Stearns can get with the very few assets in the brewers farm system.
andremets
Donoldson!!!
Dorothy_Mantooth
Is “Donoldson” someone who played in Korea last year? Not familiar with him 😉

MannyPineappleExpress9
Now eliminate anyone with only 1 year of control, recent (let’s say within the last 2+ seasons) significant arm/elbow/shoulder injuries, are on the backside of their prime..assuming they had one, and are clearly better than the guys Stearns has acquired.
And don’t forget the limited assets he has to offer in return.
Shawnpe
Shaw was exposed last year. Unless he completely re-invents his swing. He is not going to rebound.
Thames I can agree with, but I actually like Smoak much better at the prices each is going to cost. Smoak is a better player
Shaw’s defense was good but unless he gets a hanging curve or a fastball down and in, he rarely makes contact.
Off topic!!
Arcia has the worst swing I’ve ever seen above the little league level of play. How has his back foot off the ground, while swinging, not been solved yet?????? I would spike his back shoe to the ground and make him take batting practice that way all spring. He steps in the bucket…with the back foot! Never seen it before. I pray to all that does not suck, that we trade him, for a bucket of practice balls. it makes me want to vomit every time he comes to the plate.

Why would any team give this guy a MAJOR league contract?

If the Brewers have a really good season I promise I’ll never question a Stearns move again…but this feels like wasting a year of prime Yelich with a bunch of retread noddles slung at the wall and I’m fearful none will stick.
antibelt
Without any protection in the line up, Christian doesn’t hit 25 homers.
BrewCrew54
antibelt – lay off the crack bro.
Dorothy_Mantooth
He’ll have to walk 200 times (or get hurt and miss 80+ games) not to hit 25 HRs regardless of who bats behind him in the lineup.
Shawnpe
I’ll take the over on that 25 homer bet and even spot you 5 if he is indeed healthy from the knee injury out of spring training!!
ballnglove
Im with you. If the crew can make the playoffs with this group of has-beens, minor league pitchers, guys from Korea, and the California Penal League, Stearns will go down in history as a baseball savant!
antibelt
Brewers lost a lot of offense this year. Even if you don’t think many of those guys will replicate their numbers, I just don’t see this team as a .500 team the way they’re built right now. Cubs and Cards are clearly better on paper right now.
stevewpants
You could make an argument the Reds look better on paper than the Brewers right now as well. If Hiura can continue to develop he should be protecting Yelich in the lineup and it should work out ok but they’re still going to have to score a lot of runs per game with that pitching staff and the catcher downgrade. I don’t think semi-regular playing time is going to work out for Avisail, SS will still be a black hole unless Urias figures it out which the Padres obviously decided he wasn’t going to. Smoak will be counted on to produce a lot of offense and that is a risky proposition. Braun will be Braun but if pressed into more playing time by injuries then he will also get hurt and miss time. They’re really banking on a lot of coin flips going their way and it did not work out doing that in the rotation last year.
MannyPineappleExpress9
With Garcia, smoak, Morrison and 1 of gyorko or Healy on the roster I doubt Braun will be pressed into playing more than he and Counsell have planned. Plus arcia (if he’s still around), Urias and Sogard give even more flexibility to the infield, which makes me believe Braun won’t be playing much, if any 1b. He’ll start his 110-120 games in LF.
Shawnpe
Offensively I’m more concerned about a Cain rebound than a Smoak or Gyorko rebound. Both of whom will likely be platoon players, given the advantage of hitting to strengths.
Cain on base in front of Yelich made the offense go when it thrived. Yelich or Cain on base in front of anybody is going to elevate that anybody’s game.
gbp4ever
Brewers 2020 we have to cut payroll so lets sign all the crappy guys we can to cheap deals and hope we can get lucky and have a few have ok years. This team is not looking promising. For hitters outside of Yelich you have nothing you can count on. I think at best this team is a .500 team this year
Vanilla Good
Check out a guy named Keston Hiura. He had an OPS+ of 138 as a rookie last season. Can’t believe you haven’t heard of him!

pdxbrewcrew
The only real option left for third is Frazier. Instead they sign three guys for the same amount.
Three guys that, combined, will match Frazier. And if one of them does bounce-back, easily out-performs him.
Karlander
Another big Brewers signing! To be signed by the Brewers you have to be in one of the following categories:
(1). Cheap
(2). Unknown to over 90 % of baseball fans
(3). A cast off from Korean baseball
(4). Coming off a very down yea
(5) play any position but 3B
(6). Cheap
(7)Not a star player
Brewers will finish no better than 3rd in the NL central.
Yekatman
And yet somehow the Brewers have four outfielders who have been All Stars, and have made the playoffs two years running.
Karlander
Won’t be the case this season!
Vanilla Good
Bookmark this one from Nostradamus the wise and powerful.
bdpecore
I’m curious to know what moves you wanted the Brewers to make this offseason. Please enlighten all of us common folk with your vast wisdom of how to sustain a winning team in one of the smallest markets in al of baseball.
Goetta
I don’t think it’s about the free agent market and who was available. Brewer fans are frustrated with who they let go and their potential replacements. I agree with them, especially when the NL Central is seemingly up for grabs. Shame to waste Yelich, dude is a serious talent.
bdpecore
Who did they honestly lose outside of Grandal and Moustakas who has or can not be replaced? I’d argue Narvaez and Garcia come pretty close to replacing the production of the two aforementioned players while doing so for a third of the cost. Pomeranz would be the only other “difference maker” the Brewers lost and Knebel should be back early enough to replace the 20+ IP by Pom. If I’m missing someone please let me know.
Shawnpe
Whoever gets Josh Donaldson on a 4 or 5 year deal (what it will take to sign him), will be very, very disappointed unless they can move him to Dh in year two of that contract.
This will be the worst position player contract signing of the year. Way too old for that position on a multi year deal.
nealer
There’s suppose to be this extra money put aside in case they are in contention but it’s never spent. The small market excuse is no longer acceptable if you draw 3 million people and still can’t sign the better players time to give it to somebody who can compete financially.
bdpecore
Never spends their extra money. Really? In 2018 they added Moustakas, Schoop, Soria, Cedeno, Gio Gonzalez and Granderson to help bolster their playoff roster. Last season they added Lyles and Pomeranz because teams were asking the world for most of the top tier pitchers.
So by only going back two seasons your statement has been proven to be inaccurate.
nealer
Between Arica,Smoak,Healy,Sogard and Gyorko total they might not hit .200 But that’s what you get when you go on the cheap
bdpecore
Then it’s a good thing that of the players you listed only Smoak is expected to get regular ABs and his analytics show how he was more so a victim of bad luck than regression.
robertp
So Faria gets the DFA he was likely to get in Tampa (after putting up an atrocious line in MKE). Aguilar still screams bounce back candidate to me. That trade looks worse every day.
stevewpants
Yeah this is a sick joke, we’re subtracting from the already questionable pitching choices to give the 40 man roster spot to this bum?
bdpecore
What did Jesus show last season which makes you believe he will ever bounce back? Clearly the Brewers and Rays don’t share your assessment.
robertp
H e was incredible against major league pitching far longer than his slump ran. even though he wasn’t 2018 out of this world Aguilar with the Rays he still played considerably better than early in the season with Milwaukee. and the Rays are an enigma, they consistently DFA productive players in the name of being cheap.
I have a very strong feeling Aguilar and Shaw will out produce Gyorko and Smoak this season.
bdpecore
How productive does a player have to be for a small market team to commit $2.5MM to a player with the upside/potential you clearly believe he is capable of? Your reasoning is flawed because only the lowly Marlins were willing to commit this amount of salary to Jesus since they have to spend their money on someone.
MannyPineappleExpress9
Aguilar had basically a half season of above average production..and part of that he was strictly a bench player/pinch hitter. I love the guy, but from August of 18 until the brewers traded him he did very little as a regular starter. I won’t waste my time digging up what he did for tb, because a) he was no longer with my team and b) they didn’t think it wise to bring him back.
As for Shaw, after his struggles (whatever the cause), being sent down, benched etc, he no longer wanted to stay. I suspect Stearns put out feelers for a possible trade before ultimately opting to non-tender him. Sure, he very well may bounce back and I hope he does, but after batting .157, and making known his desire to go elsewhere, what choice did Stearns have? Force him to stick around despite not wanting to, AND pay him somewhere around $4.7 mil to boot?
Shawnpe
Why is Aguilar screaming bounce back, to you?
He had one good half season as a platoon player and two months of great hitting as a regular.
He did not bounce back in Tampa, so they waived him and the Marlins picked him up.
ffjsisk
I think the Brewers are getting a little too cute this year, people are giving them the benefit of the doubt…this team might finish next to the Pirates.
bdpecore
It’s not about quantity over quality. Because the free agent market looked to be overvaluing players Stearns has taken the approach of finding creative ways to improve positional production.
So he switched his focus to finding value by upgrading offensively in all roster spots (1-13) instead of just the starting lineup (1-8). By doing this he is looking to reach a target total team WAR.
For example, in 2019 the Brewers 3B position produced an .288 OBP and .681 OPS (includes 398 PA from Moose). If you use the three year averages for both players in a platoon situation Sogard (vs. RHP)/Gyorko (vs. LHP) and figure a 60/40 split they produced a .356 OBP and .781 OPS. So there is reason to believe there two can provide more production than last years group of Shaw and Moose. So the moral of the story is why pay 4yrs/$64MM when you can upgrade a position for 1yr/$6.5MM instead?
As for Gyorko, his numbers from 2016-18 were almost identical to Moose’s. But in 2019, Gyorko struggled with injuries while Moose remained healthy and continues to produce at a consistent level. The former had to settle for a one year deal for $2MM with a inexpensive team option while the other will be making $16MM per for the next 4 years. So the question is: if Jedd didn’t get hurt would he have received a similar deal to Moose this offseason? Honestly it’s completely possible he would’ve considering he was making $13MM last year.
While it’s definitely not sexy approach or easy to see when simply analyzing each signing individually but overall Stearns is finding creative ways to upgrade his roster without being forced to overspend in free agency and leaving himself more flexibility going forward to make upgrades/adjustments if things don’t go as planned.
realgone2
Brewers are gonna suck.
knolln
I’m admittedly a cardinal hater, but jedd is a scary AB with potential to drop d….yea. the Cardinal roster is flooded, but I hope he is well utilized elsewhere.
Dorothy_Mantooth
Hate to say it, but Gyorko looks shot. His numbers have steadily declined since his 2016, 30 HR breakout season and while he was hurt most of 2019, nothing in his past 3 seasons points to a potential turnaround in his performance. I’d be surprised if he stats rostered for the entire season in Milwaukee. He’s a likable guy so I hope I’m wrong, but I wouldn’t get too excited over this deal.
BobSacamano
I wouldn’t mind if DET took a chance on Faria, and converted him back to a starter. I think a low-stress environment would do wonders for him!
Chrispycp
Depth is great, but the infield’s jammed. Arcia getting moved?
brewcrew08
Infield isn’t jammed at all. Smoak/Braun at 1B, Keston at 2B and Urias at SS with sogard getting some starts at both positions. Sogard/Jedd will split time at 3rd and Healy will be the main pinch hitter and see some spot starts
brewcrew08
With Arcia getting some starts at SS and as a defensive replacement
pdxbrewcrew
I’m still thinking Arcia gets first crack at short. None of the infielders they added are better than average defensively, so having a GG caliber glove out there is important.
MannyPineappleExpress9
Except last year arcia wasn’t good defensively. Sure, he made some highlight reel plays..and then booted routine grounders.
And so far everyone has absolutely trashed each infielder that’s been signed for not being able to hit (albeit to a somewhat exaggerated level), yet you want to keep one of the absolute worst hitters in all of baseball on the field.
Shawnpe
Yes☝
Arcia has the worst swing in the game. There is not a close second last either.
Karlander
That’s called a jammed infield. It’s very jammed.
CrikesAlready
I always felt that the San Diego front office was the reason he struggled so mightily. Other than prematurely signing him to an extension. I have heard on the radio talk shows that he had been asked to provide more power (in dead air Petco).
They destroyed people by changing what they were. Sean Burroughs & Christian Bethancourt are two classic examples.
Oh well, good luck to him.
tbone0816
Where does it say he’s trying to become a pitcher?
David Walkush
What’s Stearns doing? this is the 10th position player he’s added this offseason. There’s no room for half of them. Still a glaring hole in the starting rotation.
Karlander
It’s a very clever and unique plan to turn a vast collection of.mediocre middle infielders into a starting pitching rotation. To complete the plan, Brandon Woodruff will be moved to 3B. I have to hand it to Stearns. Here I was naive enough to think the organization was just being cheap again.
pdxbrewcrew
Nope. You’re just stupid.
Karlander
No, what’s really stupid are personal attacks from cyber bullies.
MannyPineappleExpress9
Cyber bullies? Love how you can’t take a little jab after repeatedly bashing every roster move the brewers have made. You try so hard to be whimsical with your comments, yet fail so miserably.
You need thicker skin and new material. Or a safe space with padded walls.
Shawnpe
Hypocrisy is a thing, it’s calling someone a cyber bully while cyber bullying.
bdpecore
Cyber bullies are allowed here to keep trolls like you at bay. If you don’t want to be attacked then try adding some intelligent and accurate content to the discussions instead of always complaining about every move no matter how big or small it might be. Clearly based on the contract details this move is simply to provide veteran depth and versatility on their bench.

Brewers have 6 starting pitchers on the roster right now: Woodruff, Houser, Lauer, Anderson,Lindblom and Suter. 5 of those 6 project to be at least league average and, at this point, it’s safe to say that Counsell will manage them well.
Lindblom is the one wildcard, if he transitions at a similar rate to Thames he will be an above average innings eater. He could also blow up and Suter would take over as the 5th starter.

To do what? Bat boy? They don’t need a guy who has reverted each of the last couple of seasons.

Wow!!?? Signing Gyorko the slowest 3B in MLB along with Smoak. Hey Stearns, maybe you can still sign or trade for Kratz, Wieters or Belt too! Apparently home games in Milwaukee this season are mainly going to be HR hitting contests!??
“Speed doesn’t slump!” Apparently David Stearns & Counsell never got the memo!!
