Minor MLB Transactions: 2/4/20

By Connor Byrne | February 4, 2020 at 11:58pm CDT

Checking in on the latest minor moves from around baseball…

  • The Red Sox have signed third baseman Ryder Jones to a minor league contract, Robert Murray tweets. Boston’s the second MLB organization for the 25-year-old Jones, a 2013 second-round pick of San Francisco who was with the Giants through last season. Jones saw some action in the majors from 2017-18, but he struggled mightily over 172 plate appearances (.184/.250/.316) and barely played at all in the minors last season after suffering a dislocated knee in September 2018. Jones does own a solid .287/.352/.471 line with 24 home runs in 756 PA in Triple-A ball, though.

If Ruth wanted $30m over 12 years, he would have been traded even earlier. That’s the value equivalent back in 1919 of the $420m Mookie supposedly wants now. I thought they received $300k but per Google it was just $125k. Still a lot but compare that to $30m. Shows either how athletes were abused back then or how team ownership values have changed. In my book such is both. The Internet has increased just about all major sports teams values.

No disrespect to Mookie, but he’s not Babe Ruth.

Nice to see them pivot and get someone who will easily replace Betts’ production in the lineup. Smart move, Chaim.

Betts cannot be replaced by one person but baseball is a team sport as is evident by the number of rings Mike Trout has. The team needs pitching and perhaps this kid is the real deal. Minnesota has to win now if this kid is that good otherwise why did they make it?

We’re Back Baby another stellar signing. Way to go “Rube Goldberg” Bloom !!!!!! A guy who hit .184 last year!!! Trade an MVP for prospects because of money. Get nothing for Price and pay half his salary and get nothing for him. As long as we get under the cap. Then sign all types of garbage in the off season ! He has yet to get a manager!!
As long as we save Henry millions!!!
I give him 3 years and he will be gone. This crap is okay for Tampa Bay where they barely draw 7,000 a game, not for a major baseball market like Boston.

you clearly dont know how this all works. the luxury tax is prohibitive and progressive. its designed to make you stay under or reset every few years because of how stiff the penalties. oh and, getting Verdugo and Graterol whilr saving loads was a terribly good idea by Bloom.

We’ll see because this is going to hard for the fan base to swallow in a major market like Boston with a wealthy owner like Henry

They are leading you to believe they will make a half hearted attempt at the end of the season like they did with Lester. I’m tired of this team trading top players away for prospects

Fisk, Lynn in bad trades 1981.Clemens (Rocket Man) as a free agent, Lester in a bad trade and BS signing attempt and now an MVP in Betts for an overweight pitcher with an arm injury and an outfielder with a back injury and a shoulder injury, Clown Boy!

Lynn was a shell of himself after his 7 years in Boston. Pudge was a tough one, but he was a 32-year old catcher. Lester wasn’t a “bad” trade only because, as you mentioned, the re-signing attempt was laughable – and if you look at the big picture, Sox landed Porcello for Lester.
