N.o.b.o.d.y. wants to see 83 win teams in the World Series.

If the brass gets their way, it’ll become a thing with all the 80-win teams in the playoffs.

Tell that to Cardinals fans in 2006.

Yeah we couldn’t have played any worse heading into the playoff almost an epic collapse to end the season and somehow caught fire. A prime example of a team hot at the right time and much better opponents in the playoffs laying an egg. It took both that year

Just excluding Mulder and Marquis from the playoff roster improved it to a 90 win team. Those two were so bad that year.

Both bad memories. I prefer to block those out and remember Wainwright closing

Manfred does! Why else the wanted rule changes. The Padres got into the playoffs with a sub 500 season.

        Actually they finished 82-80.

That is a lie, so stop spamming it. The 2005 Padres were 82-80. That’s not below .500.

I enjoyed it when it happened in 2006.

ChiSoxCity, wouldn’t you like to see your team in there, regardless of regular season win totals? Everyone knows the answer to that. One more thing….more often than not, teams get healed up and hot after the all-star break. If you’ve been watching the game for several decades, you’ve seen some REALLY GOOD (playoff worthy) 82+ win teams. I can see real benefits from the expanded playoffs.

Nope. Save all that “well what if they get hot after the blah-blah-blah…”. You earn a trip to the postseason by being the best team in your division, as it should be. Expanding the wild card teams so nearly half the league gets in just makes it a clown show like the NBA. NY, Boston and LA fans will love it, though. It’s designed for those markets anyway.

Hamels going down does make the rotation more interesting and concerning. It only ensures Newcomb and Hernandez will fill those last two spots assuming the perform well enough in the spring. I’m really hoping Wright and Wilson come in looking strong and just force their way into the rotation. I think they can be more dynamic than the other two. I like Newcomb best in the bullpen. Btw, it’s widely considered the 5th spot was going to Newcomb or Hernandez… I’m sorry, but we know exactly what we are getting from those two and nothing to get excited about. The walk heavy Newcomb was as a prospect still existed in his best times. Even in the bullpen. He belongs in the bullpen, hands down. That’s the only spot he can’t get away with his high risk pitching behaviors lol

Braves should trade for Darvish and Bryant

    Please?

Looks like Theo and company made the right move by not re-signing Hamels. Although l definitely liked most of Hamels’ stint as a Cub, you have to have figured problems with his health would likely continue and he wouldn’t be a reliable part of any rotation much longer.
